00:00I am surprised, I must say so. You remember that earlier this year the Chief Justice and I shared a stage at our alma mater, Bishop's High School. That was I think the Saturday before Father's Day when we discussed life and times at the school and what it meant to us.
00:19And somewhere while having conversation post that event, I did ask him, you know, what are his plans? I didn't get any indication then that he had planned to retire early.
00:32Although at times having to deal with his detractors, the Chief Secretary, Fali Acustin, described the outgoing Chief Justice as a talented individual.
00:42He is a super intelligent individual, I think, has some talent and I think he will be fine wherever he, on whatever he decides to do thereafter.
00:55Interestingly, the Chief Justice might have done about, what, three or four years of secondary school because he skipped classes in secondary school,
01:03became an engineer first, worked out in the Middle East as an engineer, petroleum engineer, and then entered law and still had enough time to become our youngest Chief Justice.
01:15So I think that in itself speaks to his career. It was not without controversy.
01:22Mr. Acustin noted Ivor Archie has been long serving in the judiciary.
01:26Tobago has a Chief Justice that has to date been the youngest Chief Justice the country has ever seen and perhaps the longest serving one the country has ever seen as an independent nation.
01:42And so I wish him all the best on his future endeavors.
