One person killed and 25 injured in explosion in Madrid from suspected gas leak

The blast also damaged a cafe, a store and other properties according to authorities, killing at least one person and injuring 25.

00:00The deceased body of a 52-year-old man was retrieved from underneath a pile of rubble
00:06after an explosion rocked the Spanish capital Madrid.
00:10Authorities suspect the explosion, which happened on Saturday,
00:14was caused by a gas leak but are still investigating the causes.
00:18More than two dozen people were injured according to Madrid's Emergency Services Office
00:22with at least two having sustained critical wounds.
00:26Firefighting units announced that at least four survivors were also pulled out in the early hours of Sunday.
00:32Local officials say technicians have been deployed to the scene
00:35to carry out an extensive assessment of the affected building in the blast zone.
00:40They say the building suffered severe damage on the ground and first floors
00:44and experts are assessing whether or not it should be demolished for public safety.
00:49Madrid's Deputy Mayor, Inma Sanz, also noted that nine nearby residences have been temporarily evacuated.
00:56Sanz says they will remain outside of their homes for at least a few days
01:00due to unsafe living conditions.
