Sheffield Steelers' head coach Aaron Fox looks ahead to the 2025-26 Elite League campaign and how he believes his team has got better as a result of the summer recruitment.

00:00yeah I think again like you said it's fine margin so we're looking to get a

00:15little bit younger a little bit maybe faster in certain areas our back ends

00:21got a little bit bigger and younger and maybe a little more mobile as well so

00:27key point was getting even aiming in obviously like another goalie that we

00:34feel can give us games and not just games but you know wins you know so that

00:41was something that really hurt us last year for sure and you know you we feel

00:44like we've done a good job and making some some of those decisions and changes

00:49are never easy and to make especially when you've won with some of the guys

00:54that aren't back so you know it's uh you know we have a new group we brought

00:59back our guys that we felt like you know our guys that were gonna help us get

01:03back to where we want to be and some new guys add some of the stuff that we felt

01:06like we were missing two to three weeks now you've had the most the most

01:10majority of the players in have you got what you need in a preseason you've had

01:14three to four games I mean it's so it's always a sort of it's probably not

01:17been enough but you know I think this year in particular with there's not a

01:23league game for the next month as well so we know how important the pathway is

01:29for the cup the group cup stages so these games are very important but it's not as

01:34it's not like we have three three games the next two weeks so we can still

01:38tinker and focus on some stuff and work on on on our game a little bit in some

01:43certain areas I was going to say actually that was sort of my next point does it

01:46help that you start with a cup you've got two or three weeks there to sort of

01:50have a bit of a look to have a look at what you've got I think if we're going to have a

01:52shorter preseason this would be the year because of that um you know so I think in

01:58that regard it's probably beneficial in terms of elsewhere you look

02:02throughout the league you've obviously kept an eye on who else is recruiting who

02:06who who has impressed you with with the with the players I think everywhere the

02:10league as a whole is just really really good there's good players going you know

02:15to your what you consider your your bigger teams and then again this some of

02:20the smaller teams have really recruited well and brought in some big names as

02:23well so it's the league's really really good you know obviously you're never

02:28going to look past what Belfast has done or you know they're the benchmark right now

02:33again where you know what they've got two of the three trophies last year and you

02:37know before we won before that they were right there as well you know winning three

02:41trophies the year before us so they're a team that's always going to be there you

02:45know and then you know Cardiff Nottingham both are both going to be good and

02:50Glasgow looks good Guilford is reloaded with some youth again and you know

02:56everybody's everybody's going to be good Coventry brought you know a guy that won

03:02three trophies with us and two guys that won a couple trophies with Belfast last year

03:06so they've they've added some some guys that can win too it's up and down the

03:10lineup you know everyone looks looks good you prove yourself a winner here with

03:16the Steelers as a coach how much confidence and belief does that give

03:19yourself going into this season yeah I think in this business you know you're

03:26always looking to improve and you know I feel very strong with a lot of things I do

03:34there's always going to be room for improvement which we focus on as as a

03:39staff and and you know try to we try to give our group the tools that they need

03:45to have success out there you know we try to be over prepared and make sure that you

03:52know everyone knows what their roles and responsibilities are we also talk about

03:57you know how important it is for players to lead and us not be the only voice and

04:03have that internal accountability for each other you know so it's it's there's a

04:10lot of there's a lot of things that we do over the summer to try to hone our

04:14craft you know and I feel like we get a little better every year
