00:00Good afternoon, my name is Jan Sinclair. I'm the Vice Consul for the Australian
00:05Consulate in Mumbai. We look after Western India and that covers business
00:11minded Gujarat. I'm very pleased to be here today supporting yet another CII
00:17event. The Confederation of Indian Industry is one of our closest partners
00:22in Western India. They have supported us dearly with meeting Indian businesses
00:29Indian exporters and really speaking to industry directly in Rajkot, Jamnagar,
00:36Surat and Ahmedabad of course. And I wanted to communicate some of the
00:43highlights from the session today which is that firstly trade with India is
00:49working. Australia is very proud to have one of India's most recent trade
00:55agreements with a major foreign developed economy. The Australian and
01:02India Economic Cooperation Trade Agreement has seen huge success in terms of the
01:07number of Indian goods exported to Australia and Australian goods exported
01:12to India. And this is culminating with a big milestone which is that next year all
01:18industrial and agricultural items exported from India to Australia will be tariff
01:24free. They will be subject to zero duties. That's good for the Australian consumer and
01:32that's good for the Indian exporter and business community here. The second thing is
01:37that Australia is supporting India's upskilling potential. India has a young
01:42population and it has a lot of potential in terms of its output of skilled
01:48graduates. Australia is very proud that it was able to open the first two foreign
01:52branch campuses in Gift City in Gandhinagar, Gujara. The University of Wollongong, the
02:00University of Deakin are providing certain degrees that are helping fuel the next
02:05generation of Indian higher educated individuals. And finally I'll just finish off by
02:12saying we're in Ahmedabad, we're in the city that India has chosen to be the host
02:16of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, should the bid be successful, as well as the 2036
02:23Olympic Games, should the bid be successful. We held the first Australia India
02:29Sports Excellence Forum in Ahmedabad this year and what it showed is that
02:34Australia is ready to be India's sporting country partner of choice. We have big
02:40ambitions to support India's high performance, sports science and Paralympic ambitions. And
02:47I think by speaking with industry directly and speaking with the right chambers and the right
02:52government representatives, we're making positive progress on this already. So I look forward
02:57to seeing where it goes. Thank you.
02:59So what will the takeaway of the CIA conference today?
03:04Today the highlight was speaking to more businesses directly. Gujarat has pharmaceutical companies,
03:11they have metals companies, a lot of industrial output here and increasingly a lot of solar companies. So
03:19the most exciting part is seeing that Australia's renewable energy partnership with India is actually
03:25being operationalised quite significantly in the state of Gujarat.
