00:00Pro-Kremlin disinformation claims Ukraine is sending orphans to clear mines.
00:08A Russian influence campaign is falsely accusing the Ukrainian government of using vulnerable groups such as orphans,
00:17people with disabilities and elderly civilians to clear landmines.
00:22Perhaps most shockingly, the propagandists falsely attribute the so-called revelations to investigative media Bellingcat and its journalist Galen Reich.
00:32This video, which emerged in early September, claims that Bellingcat confirmed its findings by reviewing satellite imagery that showed civilians in mined areas of Ukraine.
00:42This video also includes a screenshot of a Bellingcat article which allegedly recounts the investigation.
00:49The Bellingcat article in question does exist, but in fact, it tells the story of workers for the Halo Trust,
00:56an NGO that clears landmines and other explosive devices from conflict areas.
01:01Bellingcat confirmed to Euroverify that the claims made in this video are not based on the work of Bellingcat or Galen Reich.
01:08The video also includes a quote attributed to the Director of Age Concern Ukraine, Galina Poliakova,
01:14who the propagandists claim told Bellingcat Reich that the Ukrainian military had been taking people from wards to send to the minefields.
01:23But Poliakova told Euroverify that this was a lie and that she had never been interviewed by a Bellingcat journalist.
01:30Our research showed that the video began circulating rapidly on X on September 5th.
01:35We estimate that on X alone it's been viewed more than 10 million times.
01:39The logo on the video can be traced back to the Russian Foundation to Battle Injustice,
01:44founded by the former Wagner mercenary chief Yevgeny Prygotsin in 2021.
01:49This organisation is behind several disinformation campaigns targeting Ukraine and Europe
01:54and has been sanctioned in the European Union.
