00:35And now, let us begin.
00:40Last Sunday, we got new exciting details for Stranger Things Season 5.
00:45Ross Duffer logged onto Instagram and announced that Volume 1 for Season 5 is officially complete,
00:50posting photos and a short video from the production studios at Netflix HQ.
00:54Obviously, this news was met with praise and excitement from fans of the Netflix series,
00:59since it means that half of the final season is ready to go.
01:02And that's what I wanted to discuss with you all today.
01:04Should Netflix use this opportunity to release Season 5 a little bit earlier?
01:08As it stands, Stranger Things 5 is set to release in three parts, with the first batches of episodes
01:13dropping on November 26th and December 25th, and the final episode of the series on December 31st.
01:19This triple date announcement shocked the world during Netflix's Tudum on May 31st.
01:24But there were some fans that expressed disappointment when it came to the show's timing.
01:28Specifically, that Stranger Things Season 5 missed an ideal opportunity by not premiering on November 6th.
01:34This date holds significant importance as it marks the day Will vanished in Season 1.
01:38The episode titles themselves hint at the season's focus on the anniversary of his disappearance,
01:42with the second episode of Season 5 being a callback to the series' pilot episode.
01:46Releasing the first volume of the final season on that anniversary would have been a fitting nod to the show's origins
01:52and a delightful full-circle moment for longtime fans.
01:55While Stranger Things premiered in the summer of 2016, its storyline spanned from early November to Christmas.
02:01It's not surprising that the Duffer brothers chose not to honor the anniversary of Will Byers' disappearance,
02:07even though it's a pivotal moment in the show's lore.
02:09After all, Stranger Things Season 5 will premiere at a time when the maximum number of viewers are likely to be streaming the series.
02:15Compared to Thursday, November 6th, releasing Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 on Thanksgiving Day ensures that more people,
02:22at least in the U.S., are at home and have ample time to watch the show upon its release.
02:27Netflix further emphasized this strategic decision with the rest of the episodes.
02:31While U.S. viewers may have Thanksgiving off work, viewers worldwide are almost certain to be watching television between December 25th and 31st.
02:38The show's timing is impeccable in terms of maximizing audience numbers, as many viewers are off work during the festive period
02:45and seeking something to stream during their holiday vacation.
02:48Consequently, it makes perfect sense that the show chose this date from a business perspective.
02:53However, for dedicated fans of Stranger Things, it's a shame that the show didn't incorporate a nod to this pivotal date from the show's narrative.
02:59Another method of releasing the season would be to do weekly episodes.
03:03Stranger Things 5 is not going to be short.
03:05To the contrary, signs are pointing towards it being a longer season than Stranger Things 4.
03:10The Duffer brothers may have denied those fake runtimes from a month ago,
03:13but I find it interesting that they tease the real lengths on both of their Instagram posts,
03:18with Ross implying that episode 4 will be as big as any finale ever.
03:21And considering the year-long period of filming without moving across the country or dealing with pandemic restrictions on set,
03:2812 months is suspiciously long for what was initially said to be a season shorter than season 4
03:32with episodes closer to 50 minutes except the feature-length finale.
03:36All of that is to say, watching these long blockbuster movie episodes during the major holidays at the end of the year
03:42might be a bit tricky to do when you have family and friends to attend to.
03:45One proposition I would like to see is to premiere the season on November 6 and release the episodes on a weekly basis.
03:51All the way until Christmas, that way, season 5 can premiere on Stranger Things Day,
03:56run through all the big holidays, and dominate the cultural conversation for 8 consecutive weeks.
04:008 weeks after November 6 is Christmas Day.
04:03But if Netflix would like to extend the hype a little bit longer,
04:06they can hold the series finale episode until New Year's Eve like they currently are.
04:10But that's just my argument.
04:11At the end of the day, chances are that Netflix will stick to this release schedule
04:15and experiment with 3 part seasons for their original shows
04:18after both Stranger Things and Cobra Kai have done so in the past year alone.
04:22We shall see.
04:23Overall, very interesting times.
04:25And that is all that we have for today.
04:27Do you think that Netflix should push up the release date for Stranger Things 5 now that Volume 1 is complete?
04:32Should they release the season on a weekly basis?
04:35Today's special shoutout is for Gloria Martinez.
