00:01Did you ever hear of Kong?
00:04King Kong was a guy I rented an apartment from in Philadelphia when I was in college,
00:08and he was really, really unpleasant.
00:10We called him King Kong because he was really big and he smelled bad.
00:13But the other King Kong, the one you're talking about, is an icon.
00:16King Kong is a sadly and horribly misunderstood, lovesick gorilla.
00:24King Kong is one of the biggest on-screen creatures, beasts in movie history, I have to say.
00:32He's awesome.
00:33He is not only just a monster who frightened moviegoers,
00:37but he paved the way for a lot of the filmmakers to expand their imaginations.
00:42King Kong is the icon of an entire three or four generations of monster lovers.
00:50King Kong was the first movie that I remember seeing as a child where you just had no idea how they did it.
01:02To me, it's a very powerful thing. It's about the time in my life when I first saw King Kong.
01:07It's about the inspiration, how it was one of many things that led me to want to make movies like this
01:12and be involved in movies like this.
01:14Look, Kong's the eighth wonder of the world. There's no getting rid of him either.
01:18It's gonna keep on coming back and coming back like the best monsters do.
01:22Anybody who hears the name King Kong gets excited. He's our hero.
