'Because we're Sheffield Wednesday...' - Chatting with Owls boss Henrik Pedersen
Transcript
00:00You've spoke a little bit about Craig already, but I just want to ask one question on him.
00:05It might be difficult to answer in detail, but I suppose a lot of fans are doing now.
00:11How did you get a man at Manchester City to agree to come and join Sheffield Wednesday
00:16with everything going on at the club at the moment?
00:19It's not difficult. We're at Sheffield Wednesday.
00:21And I think we have players from big clubs who want to come here.
00:31And we are Sheffield Wednesday. We are an interesting address.
00:37I know this happened a lot, but we are still an interesting address from the football side.
00:43And that we have really, really good young talents who want to come here.
00:48And we have some big clubs who have to believe that it can be the right place for them to come here.
00:54It's a big trust. And that we have Motti who want to come here from a very good job in Man City
01:00is also a big trust. But we don't have to make ourselves small only because we have a difficult situation.
01:09Because we are Sheffield Wednesday.
01:10And for Motti, it's a win for us.
01:16But I also think it can be a fantastic experience for Motti to come here.
01:21So we are in a difficult situation, but we don't have to make ourselves small for the rest.
01:29Yeah, absolutely.
01:30It sort of leans into my next question on Harry as well.
01:33I know he was very, very keen to join Sheffield Wednesday, having spoken to yourself.
01:37And my heart came for him to join as well.
01:40How nice is it for you to have a player on board that is so desperate to do well and so up for the fight?
01:47Harry is fantastic.
01:50Since I spoke with him the first time and his hunger to come to this football club,
01:55because he also knows the story of this football club, he also has seen us.
02:00And that he wants to be a part of this, that he wants to be an important part of this is fantastic.
02:07And how hairy he has been in the session and how open-minded he has been with how positive he has been
02:17and how constructive he has been.
02:20Yeah, it has been great to have him as a part of the team.
02:23Excellent. You've spoken previously about how pleased you are for Bailey and for Jan
02:28and the work they've done with Tunisia and Jamaica.
02:32But from a selfish perspective, how pleased were you and how relieved were you
02:35that neither of them picked up any injuries?
02:39Yeah, of course.
02:41But I don't have much focus for injuries.
02:45I have much more focus to keep them fit.
02:49And to, I think, to keep players fit, there's a physical perspective,
02:56but there's also a mental perspective.
02:58And to create an environment where people can, as much as we can, be themselves,
03:03to express themselves, I think it means a lot.
03:06And then, of course, we have to train hard because we want to be more fit.
03:12Yeah, but to get the right amount of training,
03:23because we have to reach the next level for our acceleration, deceleration.
03:28We have to reach the next level for our sprint meters.
03:30We have to reach the next level for the number of kilometers we are running per game.
03:35And so this is our focus.
03:37But we just have to be really, really clear on which day we are doing what.
03:44And then we have to create an environment where, when there is a lot of things outside,
03:48that there is also a possibility to speak about what's happened.
03:51So we don't have too much here, but we can be more here.
03:56Yeah, no, that makes complete sense.
03:57Just on Jan, obviously, you're probably going to lose him for a month
04:02in a couple of months' time when the AFCON starts.
04:05Obviously, how much of a blow will that be to lose a player of Jan's quality?
04:09But also, does that make Guy's injury even more difficult to take,
04:14given that he would be in the squad, I presume, when Jan's away?
04:19It's in January.
04:22Yeah, yeah.
04:25I'll enjoy that he's here the next couple of months.
04:28And then let's see how the words look like when we are coming to January.
04:33No, that's fair.
04:33And just on the injury front, I know you've spoken about the first-team lads,
04:37but with Mackenzie Maltbey, Bruno Fernandes, where are they at?
04:42Because obviously you've got the cup game coming up in the not-too-distant future.
04:46Are either of those going to be available for that,
04:48or are we looking a little bit longer?
04:51I think Bruno could maybe be.
04:54But let's see.
04:55It's still...
04:56But he could maybe be, yeah.
04:58I hope.
04:59Brilliant.
05:00Lovely.
05:00Thanks very much for your time, Henrik.
05:02I'll speak to you soon.
05:03Good morning.
