00:00:00What do you want to do with the innovation?
00:00:30Your skills are slowly growing, that you have a left brain or a right brain.
00:00:34The left brain, mathematics, accounting and all, they are all detail oriented.
00:00:39The other side, the right brain, they are artistic, they are creative,
00:00:44they are thinking forward, they are imagining it,
00:00:47and there are some people who take them together.
00:00:51To control your thoughts, you have to practice.
00:00:54Meditation also means focus.
00:00:56And repetition.
00:00:57So if I go to one place every day and the same time I take a walk.
00:01:02Yes, absolutely.
00:01:03On the third day your mind will change.
00:01:05On the fifth day you will be in a different space.
00:01:07There are a lot of our audience who don't read books.
00:01:10Their attention span, like you know, YouTube videos are also very short.
00:01:14You have to impart that knowledge in which time you have to give that knowledge.
00:01:19Because attention span is not.
00:01:21In studying, you determined a velocity.
00:01:24If you are studying, then you are thinking about what you are studying,
00:01:27then you have to internalize it.
00:01:29When you are watching YouTube in 2 minutes,
00:01:31you are not determining what you will learn from your speed.
00:01:34The presenter, who has made YouTube, who has made TikTok,
00:01:37will determine what speed you will understand.
00:01:40Okay.
00:01:47Hello viewers.
00:01:48Welcome to our Wrapped Pulse podcast.
00:01:50I am your host Mubeen Moolji.
00:01:52And today on our podcast, we have a very exceptional guest.
00:01:56This gentleman is a multifaceted, multi-talented and a multi-dimensional individual.
00:02:03He is a serial entrepreneur, a motivational speaker, an IITian, a painter, an artist and also an innovative baker.
00:02:15Please welcome on our show, Mr. Sumit D. Chaudhary.
00:02:19Thank you Mubeen.
00:02:20It's a pleasure to be here today.
00:02:21Same here.
00:02:22Same here.
00:02:25So Sumit, I am already very confused.
00:02:28As to where to actually begin.
00:02:30Where did I start from?
00:02:31I am not understanding.
00:02:32Because your profile is so diverse.
00:02:34Your career and...
00:02:37Let's talk about your journey.
00:02:39How did your career start?
00:02:41And I would mainly ask you this.
00:02:44Your background is corporate.
00:02:47And you have transitioned into art.
00:02:51And how did this transition happen?
00:02:55Tell us something about your journey.
00:02:57First of all, I will correct your last statement.
00:03:00I am now corporate.
00:03:02I am also doing art.
00:03:04So, let me tell you a little bit about my journey.
00:03:07I grew up in a town called Jamshedpur.
00:03:10Which, if you know about the Tatas, they created this little town which is completely owned and operated by them.
00:03:20So, there were all the things that were there.
00:03:23Okay.
00:03:24And when we were growing up, there were music, culture, arts, sports facilities.
00:03:30Okay.
00:03:31So, we were growing up.
00:03:33We were growing up.
00:03:34We were growing up.
00:03:35My parents were a school of arts and crafts and music.
00:03:40So, we were going to go there.
00:03:42So, we had to go there every day.
00:03:44We had to learn something in a class.
00:03:45Either music class, or tabla class, or painting class.
00:03:48Or, we were doing all of our diplomas.
00:03:53I am a fully qualified musician.
00:03:55Because of that, I did all of my art training.
00:04:01Bengal school.
00:04:03All kinds of painting.
00:04:05Then, we were doing dramas.
00:04:08Okay.
00:04:09We were doing this.
00:04:10We were doing this.
00:04:11We were doing this.
00:04:12And our school was also a very good school.
00:04:15That was also a good school.
00:04:17That was also a good school.
00:04:18That was our growth.
00:04:21It was called the Loyola School in Jamshedpur.
00:04:23That was one of the top 10 schools in India.
00:04:28Oh, nice.
00:04:29So, in that school, we had a focus more on the extracurriculars.
00:04:35Okay.
00:04:36So, we were doing a lot in school.
00:04:38There were all kinds of clubs.
00:04:39There were all kinds of facilities.
00:04:42There were all kinds of our facilities.
00:04:44We were talking about a wholesome development.
00:04:46We were talking about our school.
00:04:48We had a good school.
00:04:49So, our development in school was very good.
00:04:52Would be very good?
00:04:54Okay.
00:04:56You
00:05:03We put in school.
00:05:05The next year, we were alright,
00:05:13all kinds of there.
00:05:31throughout I was fully involved in everything that was in music, art and culture in the campus
00:05:37so everybody knew me because I was fully involved in the arts along with my educational studies
00:05:47I was above average, I was not the topper but I was doing a lot of other things
00:05:53and my activities also created an opportunity for to meet my current wife, she was my batchmate from IIT
00:06:02so I met her at campus, we became friends and we became more than friends before we left
00:06:08she went to the US, I followed her to the US afterwards and then I did my master's and my PhD at Carnegie Mellon
00:06:17so from IIT, I went to Pittsburgh in the US, there was also my band, there was also our Indian music program
00:06:27we were doing almost every weekend, we were doing live shows at someone's home, we were playing accordion
00:06:35we were learning songs but now we became a musician
00:06:39so slowly, slowly, I kept all my creative aspects alive throughout my career
00:06:47so when people say that I do a lot of things, it's not that I do all of them together, I do
00:06:51because that was your foundation
00:06:55because when you were growing up, you did both together
00:06:58I did both together and I have continued to do throughout
00:07:01and then now I have merged all my lives together
00:07:04and the things that you mentioned
00:07:08sort of grew
00:07:10gave me a lot of benefit
00:07:13my career was very fast
00:07:15I was able to demonstrate
00:07:18a lot of success in my career early on
00:07:21and that got me
00:07:22to a point where I could talk about my career to a lot of people
00:07:26that got me into public speaking
00:07:28because I could talk about what I was doing
00:07:30and how I made it and how I did things early
00:07:32I was one of the youngest partners of KPMG
00:07:34I was 32 years old
00:07:36and then I became the CEO of the Australian business
00:07:41quite early on in my life also
00:07:43these things are opportunities that you can build on
00:07:47and I think that's
00:07:48I have built on every opportunity
00:07:50or every
00:07:51I would say problem in my life
00:07:55also I created into an opportunity
00:07:57and made something out of it
00:07:58that is a lesson for everyone
00:08:00so that's the journey
00:08:03and then
00:08:04there's a lot of
00:08:06I'll tell you a little bit more
00:08:08in the subsequent questions about
00:08:10the companies I've worked in
00:08:12from KPMG
00:08:13I came back to India
00:08:14and I became
00:08:16the technology right-hand man
00:08:18for Mr. Rambani
00:08:19the junior Rambani
00:08:20Mr. Anil Rambani
00:08:21I was working with him
00:08:22for Reliance Communication
00:08:23and then
00:08:24I joined IBM
00:08:26and then after
00:08:27that I started working for
00:08:29Mukesh Bhai
00:08:30in Jio
00:08:31so I was the president of Jio
00:08:32and after a couple of years
00:08:34I started my own company
00:08:35and last
00:08:36last 10 years
00:08:37I've been running my own company
00:08:39and subsequently
00:08:40while I was running my company
00:08:41I've created 2-3 other companies
00:08:43which are working in
00:08:44a lot of different areas
00:08:45so I keep myself busy
00:08:47so like
00:08:48it was
00:08:49like
00:08:49you are a serial entrepreneur
00:08:51first
00:08:52and then a motivational speaker
00:08:53or
00:08:54you become a motivational speaker
00:08:55before or
00:08:56I think
00:08:57I become a motivational speaker
00:08:58before
00:08:58and
00:08:59I became a motivational speaker
00:09:01My book was on
00:09:05career management
00:09:05for young people
00:09:0720-year-olds
00:09:08to 30-year-olds
00:09:09was my target segment
00:09:10for my book
00:09:11the book is called
00:09:11The Rules of the Game
00:09:12and
00:09:14so
00:09:15book
00:09:16was about
00:09:17I interviewed
00:09:1810
00:09:20top CEOs
00:09:21of the country
00:09:22along with
00:09:23my ideas
00:09:24about what
00:09:25to do
00:09:26in a career
00:09:27I interviewed
00:09:2810 CEOs
00:09:29who have
00:09:30grown through
00:09:31the ranks
00:09:31they are not
00:09:32CEOs who got
00:09:33their job
00:09:34because their father
00:09:35was the owner
00:09:36of the company
00:09:37these are people
00:09:37who started
00:09:38in the bottom
00:09:39of the pyramid
00:09:40and then they went
00:09:41up to the top
00:09:42I interviewed
00:09:42those kinds of people
00:09:43and understood
00:09:45what made them
00:09:46successful
00:09:47and that I wrote
00:09:48in the book
00:09:49I wrote my concepts
00:09:51and I then backed
00:09:52it up with examples
00:09:52of lives of
00:09:53these 10 CEOs
00:09:54and that book
00:09:56became a bestseller
00:09:57and I toured
00:09:59the country
00:10:00talking to
00:10:01young people
00:10:02for the book
00:10:03and not for
00:10:04the launch

00:10:25spoken to
00:10:25more than
00:10:2530,000
00:10:26people
00:10:26as part
00:10:28of my
00:10:28book
00:10:28circuit
00:10:29so that
00:10:30sort of
00:10:30gave me
00:10:31a lot
00:10:31of
00:10:31energy

00:11:26something
00:11:27this
00:11:28book
00:11:28I
00:11:29wrote
00:11:29many
00:11:31successful
00:11:33CEOs
00:11:33who
00:11:34joined
00:11:37from

00:11:38and
00:11:39I
00:11:39joined
00:11:3910
00:11:40people
00:11:40and
00:11:41not
00:11:42companies
00:11:43I
00:11:44I have also interviewed Prashun Joshi
00:11:46like this
00:11:46and
00:11:49all these industries
00:11:50banking and manufacturing
00:11:51and I had also interviewed
00:11:55and figured out how to be successful
00:11:58that was what he did
00:12:00when he was 20 years old
00:12:01what his mindset was
00:12:03when he was 20 years old
00:12:05that's why it became successful
00:12:07it was necessary to know
00:12:09that was what he did
00:12:11in 40 years until he did
00:12:12how they started
00:12:16because my audience
00:12:18was 20-30 years old
00:12:19who are young people
00:12:20and to attract them
00:12:23and to understand them
00:12:25that you don't waste 20-30 years
00:12:26this is very important in life
00:12:28our life
00:12:31three times
00:12:32our brain is re-wired
00:12:33which is one time
00:12:35when we can eat
00:12:37and eat
00:12:39and eat
00:12:41and when we are teenagers
00:12:43we rebel
00:12:44and we do something else
00:12:45and after that
00:12:47the final wiring
00:12:48our character
00:12:50our life
00:12:52is between 20-30 years old
00:12:54and after that
00:12:55the hardware is sealed
00:12:57and after that
00:12:58the whole software change
00:12:59which is re-wiring
00:13:02the brain is very important
00:13:03so in this time
00:13:04if you will give this time
00:13:06then you change
00:13:07it is very difficult
00:13:08so if you start
00:13:10because of 30-30s
00:13:11you have to keep
00:13:12in mind
00:13:13you have to keep
00:13:14all your life
00:13:14and that
00:13:15you have to keep
00:13:16thinking about
00:13:17what you want to think
00:13:18and how you want to do it
00:13:19so I have talked
00:13:21with large people
00:13:23about it
00:13:24and I wrote it
00:13:25and after it
00:13:26I wrote it
00:13:28and after that book
00:13:29I went to the publisher
00:13:30and at the first meeting
00:13:30the publisher
00:13:31said that
00:13:32we will publish it
00:13:33and this is the world's publisher
00:13:35which has Harry Potter
00:13:37published my book
00:13:39published
00:13:40and then I have
00:13:42Bloomsbury to 6 authors
00:13:44and I have published 6
00:13:46and I have recommended
00:13:48and I have helped
00:13:50and I have helped
00:13:51and I have helped
00:13:54and I have helped
00:13:56and I have helped
00:13:58and I have helped
00:14:00and I have helped
00:14:02and I have helped
00:14:03so my book
00:14:03is a lot of
00:14:04meaning and meaning
00:14:07and I have helped
00:14:08and I have made a bestseller
00:14:10and I have made a lot of time
00:14:14I have spent 6 months
00:14:15every weekend
00:14:17I was a president

00:14:27to Coimbatore
00:14:28I was never gone to life
00:14:31because
00:14:32I was not
00:14:33because they were
00:14:33I had to interview
00:14:34because
00:14:35I had to interview
00:14:36because
00:14:36I had to interview
00:14:38to sell
00:14:39books
00:14:39to find
00:14:40I have done

00:17:38your intention is right, your outcome is right, your outcome is right.
00:17:43I will focus on that.
00:17:45I will do 10 things, but I will do this.
00:17:48I will not see who I am, who is calling, who is coming,
00:17:52who is going to, who is going to, who is going to.
00:17:55I am sure that it will be happening.
00:17:58But it will be time.
00:18:00It will be time to deal with your life.
00:18:03You should focus on the right, your mindset is right.
00:18:06So, in short, the perspective is everything.
00:18:15Keep your intention right.
00:18:17And if you are doing many things,
00:18:21but what you are doing right now,
00:18:23keep your attention and focus on your work.
00:18:27And then you can have multiple careers,
00:18:30multiple hobbies.
00:18:32But whatever you are doing right now,
00:18:34people say that you do multitasking.
00:18:37I do not do multitasking.
00:18:39I do serial unit tasking.
00:18:41Yes, excellent.
00:18:43I do that.
00:18:44Whatever you do,
00:18:45I will do that.
00:18:46I will do it in the same time,
00:18:47because I will do it in 5 minutes.
00:18:48I will do it in exactly another way.
00:18:49Not that they have to do it all.
00:18:50I will do it in 100%.
00:18:51That will be 100%.
00:18:52But if you look at the whole day,
00:18:53I will do it in 10 things.
00:18:54I will do it.
00:18:55But I has not done it in 10 things.
00:18:56I have done it in 10 different things.
00:18:58I have done it.
00:19:00I have done it in 10 different things.
00:19:27तो वो जो on off करने का जो है मेरा time waste नहीं होता ज़ादा
00:20:25small connect

00:24:36Oh my God.
00:24:38Oh my God.
00:24:40Oh my God.
00:24:42Oh my God.
00:24:44Oh my God.
00:24:46Oh my God.
00:24:48Oh my God.
00:24:50Oh my God.

00:25:04Oh my God.
00:25:06Oh my God.
00:25:08Oh my God.
00:25:10Oh my God.
00:25:12Do not do multi-tasking or uniserial tasking.
00:25:17Many people do not do anything.
00:25:22Some people do not do anything.
00:25:25But those who have to do it,
00:25:29they say live in the present moment.
00:25:33When you focus your mind,
00:25:37you have to do everything off.
00:25:40You have to do it.
00:25:44If you need to do everything off,
00:25:47then the choices are done.
00:25:49Your thoughts are made of zero?
00:25:50You have to stay focused on one,
00:25:53but not one,
00:25:55but one does not make it.
00:25:56You need to meditate on one.
00:25:59You need to meditate on the work.
00:26:01Like the karma of our program,
00:26:03when you work your work,
00:26:06the work is the meditation.
00:26:07Your work is the dharma.
00:26:09At that time, you focus on that thing.
00:26:12Laser focus.
00:26:13You focus on that time.
00:26:15After that, you switch off.
00:26:17At that time, you don't distract yourself.
00:26:19When you work, you don't distract yourself.
00:26:21This work will be done for me.
00:26:23It will take 3 hours.
00:26:24I will give it to you.
00:26:263 hours, I will be off all the things and sit down.
00:26:31Okay.
00:26:32The consequences will be discussed later.
00:26:37Of course, I would love to know.
00:26:39So, as you were saying, you should have to be laser-focused.
00:26:45And you should have to be 100% attention to that work.
00:26:52But we see that a lot of people are distracted.
00:26:56Like, I am sitting here today, but in my mind, I am thinking, what am I going to eat at night?
00:27:01So, you know, it is not in our control.
00:27:04Because there are thoughts like that anywhere else comes.
00:27:07And I am planning on a future or I am thinking.
00:27:10So, how do you...
00:27:12Like, you know, our audience can give us a tip that they keep their focus solid.
00:27:18So, you have to be able to do it.
00:27:20So, you have to be able to do it.
00:27:21I don't know how many people can do it.
00:27:23Many people train it.
00:27:25If you do something repeatedly,
00:27:27then your skills will grow slowly.
00:27:31Those who play cricket,
00:27:33they will practice slowly and slowly.
00:27:35They will keep the same thing.
00:27:39When we talked about successful people,
00:27:43they had to say that
00:27:45don't repeat anything.
00:27:47When he talked about it,
00:27:49I don't have anything to write.
00:27:51But I will write a pen.
00:27:55I don't have any purpose to write.
00:27:57But I don't have to take practice.
00:27:59I have to write.
00:28:01You have to do it daily.
00:28:03Repeatedly.
00:28:05And you have to do it.
00:28:07I have done it today,
00:28:09and I have done it today.
00:28:11So,
00:28:13you have to do it better.
00:28:15I will do it better.
00:28:17And tomorrow I will do it.
00:28:19Tomorrow I will do it better.
00:28:21And then,
00:28:23you will see that 10 days later,
00:28:25you will be very good.
00:28:2710 days, 20 days later,
00:28:29you will learn that.
00:28:31And after that,
00:28:33you will have to do it better.
00:28:35Tomorrow I will do it better.
00:28:37Tomorrow I will do it better.
00:28:38Tomorrow I will do it better.
00:28:39Tomorrow I will do it better.
00:28:41This is practice.
00:28:43Whether you are soccer or cricket,
00:28:44you will do it better.
00:28:45Or you will do it in corporate.
00:28:47Whatever you do,
00:28:48you will repeat it.
00:28:49So, you have to control the thoughts.
00:28:51You have to practice.
00:28:53I will do it better.
00:28:54I will do it better.
00:28:55I will do it better.
00:28:56I will do it better.
00:28:57I will do it better.
00:28:58Tomorrow I will do it better.
00:29:00Tomorrow I will do it better.
00:29:02So, if my mind is wondering
00:29:04what I will do,
00:29:05I will go back.
00:29:07We were little.
00:29:08We were little.
00:29:10There was a teacher who was doing maths.
00:29:12But we were doing very loud music.
00:29:14My parents were talking about maths.
00:29:16How did you do maths?
00:29:18How did you do maths?
00:29:20You have to talk about maths,
00:29:23which we were inspired.
00:29:25When ours went from this,
00:29:27when you entered the mind,
00:29:29while you went to music,
00:29:30you did not go out.
00:29:31The music was at guardrails,
00:29:34that you were studying.
00:29:36The distraction is also left too limited.
00:29:40Today children are very distracted.
00:29:43Maybe social media
00:29:45or many digital channels.
00:29:47Their influence
00:29:49attention span
00:29:51they are small
00:29:532 minutes
00:29:551 minute
00:29:55so you can see 2 minutes
00:29:56in all areas
00:29:572 minutes
00:29:58you have to explain
00:29:59something to you
00:30:01but this is also skill
00:30:02you have to explain
00:30:03something to you
00:30:04in 2 minutes
00:30:05now in our lives
00:30:08in our lives
00:30:09we were going to explain
00:30:10something to you
00:30:12now I have to explain
00:30:132 minutes
00:30:132 minutes
00:30:14this will be new
00:30:17this is also new
00:30:18yes
00:30:18we have to learn
00:30:20so we have to learn
00:30:20something to simplify
00:30:22and explain
00:30:242 minutes
00:30:25now the child
00:30:272 minutes
00:30:27learning
00:30:28if you will see
00:30:3010 things
00:30:31then you will learn
00:30:34about it
00:30:35I have to train
00:30:38myself
00:30:38baking
00:30:40we are talking
00:30:41about it
00:30:41yes
00:30:42I have to

00:30:58I am
00:30:58up to
00:30:586-8
00:31:00hours
00:31:00baking
00:31:01I am
00:31:01and our name
00:31:04is so much
00:31:05we have to
00:31:06We used bread for 10,000, $12,000, $15,000, $20,000, we used to sit at home, we used to sell at home, I learned from YouTube, I learned from TikTok, I learned how to do packing, if you learn something, you have to focus on something, you have to repeat it, and you have to do 10,000 hours, you have to do 10,000 hours, you have to do 10,000 hours,
00:31:3210,000 hours is one of the rules, you will learn 80% of the skills, you will learn 2,000 hours, the rest of the 20% will take 8 years, so I have to do 3,000 hours in baking, by doing it every day, if you don't have anything, I would bake 10 things, no order, I would bake it on YouTube, I learned to bake bread from 40 countries,
00:32:02I make bread from 40 countries, I also make it, my bakery is also going on, weekends, I do it, and Russians buy Russian bread from me, Germans buy German bread from me, export from me, export from me, export from me, export from me, I live in Malabar Hill, there are all embassies,
00:32:21all people are going to buy from me, Polish ambassador has become friends, so this is a new idea of me, those people don't know what I do, they know I'm a baker, they know I'm a baker,
00:32:34they know I'm a corporate executive, they know I'm a corporate executive, they know I do, they know I do, they know I do, they know I do, but how did I learn this little video,
00:32:45but doing it, if someone wants to learn, you have to do it, you have to do it, so doing is the way to learn, how do you learn new skills, you have to do it,
00:32:58so you have to practice, this is not that you have to think about it, you have to do it, you have to do it, you have to do it, you have to do it,
00:33:04or you have to do it, or do it wrong, or do it again, repeat it, Sachin Tendulkar,
00:33:08because he did not have a cricketer during one day, he also did practice four days, he did practice in daily practice,
00:33:14after 10 or 20 years, he was made a name,
00:33:18like if we make a muscle, we have to go out and get out of the gym, so focus is also a muscle that you need to build,
00:33:24Exactly. And if you go to the gym, then you say that you focus on the muscle.
00:33:29Think about the muscle. You think that you focus on the muscle.
00:33:35Then the muscle will improve.
00:33:37The trainer of the gym, who doesn't know any philosophy,
00:33:41he also tells you that you focus on the muscle.
00:33:46Your intention is not to be able to take weight.
00:33:52You have to think that your muscle is tight here.
00:33:56When I make bread, I have to think that I have to think that it is less or less.
00:34:01It is down, intervene here.
00:34:04I didn't teach this one day. I have to do it.
00:34:07I have to do it successfully.
00:34:11One day, I make one thing 4-5-5 times.
00:34:165-5 times it will be good.
00:34:19You have to practice 4-5 times.
00:34:22After that, the second day, when you order, you will get good.
00:34:26You have to do it 4 times.
00:34:28In the 5th day, you have to do it all.
00:34:31You understand that you have to practice any other thing.
00:34:35And repeatedly.
00:34:37You have to focus on your muscle.
00:34:39You have to build your muscle to do it all.
00:34:44But you have to think about that.
00:34:46You have to think about it, because I think about it too.
00:34:48But I am doing my work.
00:34:50When I am doing my work, I am thinking of another thing.
00:34:53This is not that…
00:34:54Do you understand?
00:34:58So, like, if people have distractions and don't have mind,
00:35:02then you focus and repeatedly focus and you build your muscle to concentrate.
00:35:08First start with only small amounts, then increase it.
00:35:12And then keep doing it.
00:35:13And do it every day.
00:35:14Do it every day.
00:35:15That's the trick is to do it every day, whatever you do.
00:35:19Excellent, yeah.
00:35:20I am picking up instruments.
00:35:23I am picking up a digital saxophone.
00:35:26I can't play the right saxophone because everyone is getting tired.
00:35:31It's loud.
00:35:33So, I am playing with a digital phone and putting it on the headphones.
00:35:35I don't know if I'm playing.
00:35:36So, I practice 4 am.
00:35:39I do it every day.
00:35:40You need to practice for instruments.
00:35:42You need to practice for instruments.
00:35:44You need to play for instruments.
00:35:44You need to play for lessons.
00:35:45You need to study for lessons.
00:35:46You need to do it for work.
00:35:47You need to play for lessons.
00:35:48You need to play for lessons.
00:35:49So, this is the repetition.
00:35:50This is also equal to meditation.
00:35:54Right?
00:35:54It's absolutely meditation.
00:35:55This is why we call music and painting.
00:35:57We call the painting.
00:35:57We call the painting.
00:35:58We call the painting.
00:35:59But I am taking the work.
00:36:01I am taking the work.
00:36:02I am taking the work.
00:36:02I am taking the work.
00:36:03I am taking the work.
00:36:04So, if you practice work every day, then that is also a kind of meditation.
00:36:08It is not a meditation.
00:36:08It means that meditation is focused.
00:36:10Okay.
00:36:11And repetition.
00:36:13And repetition.
00:36:13And repetition.
00:36:13So, if I am taking the work every day on the same time, I take a walk.
00:36:19So, that is also…
00:36:20Yes, absolutely.
00:36:22On the third day, your mind will change.
00:36:24On the fifth day, you will be in a different space.
00:36:25On the third day, you will think, why am I doing this?
00:36:28Hmm.
00:36:29Hmm.
00:36:30But…
00:36:31Slowly becomes a habit.
00:36:32Yes.
00:36:33Make it a habit.
00:36:34Okay.
00:36:35Hmm.
00:36:36And, sir, as you have written the book, you know, the rules of the game.
00:36:40So, there are a lot of our audience who don't read books.
00:36:44Hmm.
00:36:45And their attention span, like, you know, today's attention span is very low.
00:36:49Hmm.
00:36:50YouTube videos are also very short.
00:36:52So, you have to impart that knowledge in this time.
00:36:56You have to give that knowledge.
00:36:58Because attention span is not.
00:37:00Hmm.
00:37:01So, what advice can you give people who don't study?
00:37:04As I said, why did we study today's content?
00:37:09Why did we study?
00:37:10We were determined by a velocity.
00:37:13What velocity will you take input from the velocity?
00:37:17Because the work of studying is that you are studying, then you are thinking,
00:37:22what you are studying, then you have to do internalize.
00:37:25Okay.
00:37:26This is the shrinkage of reading.
00:37:28When you are watching YouTube 2 minutes, you are not determined to learn how to learn speed.
00:37:34The presenter, the YouTube, the TikTok, the one who has created,
00:37:38the one who has determined how to understand speed.
00:37:41Okay.
00:37:42Now, you have to learn a new way to learn how to learn how to do this in 2 minutes.
00:37:48And if something is good in it, I have to research on it.
00:37:51There is a lot of curiosity in it.
00:37:53Okay.
00:37:54So, you have to see the 2-minute videos.
00:37:56But not one.
00:37:57100.
00:37:58Okay.
00:37:59Okay.
00:38:00If there is no attention span, then that is the only video.
00:38:01No.
00:38:02That is not.
00:38:03You can see the type of videos.
00:38:04Like you are teaching baking.
00:38:05I taught baking.
00:38:06I taught baking.
00:38:07I taught packing.
00:38:08I taught my whole sticker design.
00:38:11Everything I did at home.
00:38:13I didn't do anything in the time.
00:38:15I never taught anyone.
00:38:16I taught all the design.
00:38:17I taught all the materials.
00:38:18I taught my daughter how to do finance.
00:38:20How to do baking business.
00:38:22How to do baking business.
00:38:23I taught my company's CEO.
00:38:26I taught my expenses.
00:38:29Because a lot of kids got back.
00:38:35Now, there is no idea how to do it.
00:38:36I taught it outside.
00:38:38As long as the result.
00:38:39Then, levels were things like that.
00:38:41We entered the environment.
00:38:42It was a good idea.
00:38:44When far, people came back with money while they needed more.
00:38:45We took it over.
00:38:47The two-minute said it was an effective technique and drugstore.
00:38:53There is a different technique but it does.
00:38:55So, curiosity is very important that you have to take some of the things and take some of the things.
00:38:59I have taught swimming from YouTube.
00:39:01What are you saying? Now, this is not possible.
00:39:04Honestly, one thing you have not seen in my profile, I am a marathon runner also.
00:39:13So, marathon running, when I started half-marathon and then full-marathon,
00:39:19I have run seven full-marathons at a four-hour sort of time.
00:39:24It is a respectable time. It is not a very superior time, but it is a respectable time.
00:39:31It adds to your profile.
00:39:33It adds to my profile.
00:39:34But I did cycling with that.
00:39:36After that, I said that I have to learn swimming.
00:39:38In swimming, there was only two laps before.
00:39:40We could only do two laps.
00:39:43In one summer, I decided that I have to learn.
00:39:46So, I went to a pool in two or three.
00:39:48Everyone does not learn anything about swimming.
00:39:50Everyone does learn children.
00:39:52And when I have to learn where I have to live work,
00:39:55I didn't get any coach.
00:39:57So, I said that I went to YouTube and practiced myself.
00:40:03Then I watched YouTube and practiced myself.
00:40:05Then I watched YouTube and practiced.
00:40:06Then I watched YouTube and practiced.
00:40:07So, in one month, I started swimming swimming in one month.
00:40:12Because I had to do two kilometers and I had to do two kilometers.
00:40:15Then I did that technique that I taught my daughter.
00:40:17I did it for 10 days.
00:40:19From YouTube?
00:40:20From YouTube.
00:40:21From YouTube.
00:40:22You were saying that it is now the moment.
00:40:24There are books that don't read books.
00:40:26I had no coach or books.
00:40:28I had a book on YouTube.
00:40:29I learned the idea of doing it.
00:40:30So, if it is a mind of doing it,
00:40:32it is a curiosity factor.
00:40:34And I have to make a goal.
00:40:36And I have to make a goal that I haven't done.
00:40:38I have to make a goal.
00:40:40It is a goal that I have to make a goal.
00:40:41Why am I doing it?
00:40:43What is my goal?
00:40:44I have to make a goal post.
00:40:45I have to make a goal post.
00:40:46I have to make a goal post.
00:40:47I have to make a goal post.
00:40:48When I set goals,
00:40:49people will run quickly.
00:40:51If there is no goal post,
00:40:53if you are not in soccer field,
00:40:54you will tell me where you are.
00:40:56If you are not in soccer field,
00:40:59you will not know where to go.
00:41:00You will know where to go.
00:41:01If you are not in soccer field,
00:41:02you will tell people where to run.
00:41:04Where to go.
00:41:07If you know you are going where to go.
00:41:08You will also learn YouTube.
00:41:10You will also learn TikTok.
00:41:11You will also learn the conductor.
00:41:13You will also learn the bus.
00:41:14You will also learn the driver with autors on your rickshaw driver.
00:41:19If you want to learn a idea,
00:41:20then you will also learn one from someone.
00:41:22Books is also additional. Books is just one way to acquire knowledge. Your mind has to be open to absorb new ideas, new concepts from whoever. From a baby to a child to your grandfather.
00:41:37Our biggest problem is that we have to close our mind. I know much more. No one knows who you know much. You have to learn from each other. I will learn my makeup.
00:41:56Yes, your new ideas.
00:42:00I am just telling you. I have to do mehndi, by the way.
00:42:03Okay, you are into art.
00:42:05Because it is art.
00:42:07Yes, I have brought art in bread baking. If you go and see my Instagram page on my bakery, you will see that every piece of bread is a work of art.
00:42:19Oh my God.
00:42:20It is. And that bread is made in 1000-1000.
00:42:25Okay. But you have also made so much focus and love. Because in Covid, many people were in depression. You know, people didn't know what to do. They were in the house.
00:42:36They were not understanding. But this is like a new perspective. You and your daughter started a new bakery. You learned from YouTube and now you are running a very successful.
00:42:46Very successful.
00:42:47And we also created a franchise in another city, saying that we will make a franchise. We will make a franchise. We will make a big, big, big, big. Then my other job is done.
00:42:55And my daughter also went to study. So then we slowed down the bakery.
00:43:02But the fact that I could get to this point by absolutely no training from any formal training, not reading a book but to learning from my environment, learning from adversity. Covid was an adversity.
00:43:18It was an adversity.
00:43:19From that adversity, we were able to overcome.
00:43:23So the whole game is here.
00:43:24The whole game is there.
00:43:26The whole game is in the mind.
00:43:28The whole game is in the mind.
00:43:31So I think we learned something new to be curious always.
00:43:34Yeah.
00:43:35And keep learning. If you can't read books, you have so many things on YouTube.
00:43:39Like our podcast. I don't know how many people will be inspired.
00:43:42You know?
00:43:43I'm sure.
00:43:44I'm sure.
00:43:45The goal is to be that if you have three hours or someone's benefit, then that's right.
00:43:54Yeah.
00:43:55If someone's benefit isn't for someone's benefit, then it's wasted.
00:44:00Yes.
00:44:01It's not for someone's benefit or someone else's benefit.
00:44:03In the world, someone's benefit.
00:44:05It's your benefit or your benefit or my benefit.
00:44:07It's for someone's benefit.
00:44:09And I'm sure that today our audience learned a lot.
00:44:11You will learn a lot about focus, about learning new things.
00:44:15I hope.
00:44:16Yeah.
00:44:17Excellent.
00:44:18And also, your book is Chicken Soup of the IIT and Soul.
00:44:24Would you like to talk about that?
00:44:25That's a fun book.
00:44:27A bunch of people who were in IITs.
00:44:31We're all about to write a story.
00:44:32Of course, there's a story.
00:44:33I got to talk about it.
00:44:34I really want to say a person about me.
00:44:35I'm interested in it.
00:44:36You went to an idea of how I can write a story and all that you can write about.
00:44:38I can write a story about IIT.
00:44:40What did you think it is as a story?
00:44:41Yeah.
00:44:42It's a story that I was talking about.
00:44:44So, what are you talking about, what is the story?
00:44:45In your life, there was a short story or a story that you can write.
00:44:51So, I wrote about a Jyoti Shi.
00:44:55His name was Fortune Teller.
00:44:57A Jyoti Shi...
00:44:59I was in IIT in Kanpur.
00:45:05We got a Jyoti Shi.
00:45:07We went to watch a movie and sat in the street.
00:45:10They sat in the bus stop.
00:45:11So, I saw my hand and my wife, she was with me.
00:45:17She saw her hand.
00:45:19She had a prediction.
00:45:21For you?
00:45:22No, for her, for us, for everyone.
00:45:25It impacts the mind.
00:45:28Then, you take a decision like the Jyoti Shi...
00:45:32The Jyoti Shi...
00:45:34The Jyoti Shi...
00:45:36Then you are not in control over your destiny.
00:45:39Then you start making that vision come true.
00:45:41But you believe in destiny?
00:45:43I believe in destiny, but not when somebody tells me what the destiny is.
00:45:48It's a destiny, but...
00:45:49It's a destiny, but...
00:45:49It's a destiny.
00:45:50If someone tells me, I'm in that direction.
00:45:53So, I don't ask anyone.
00:45:54If you read the story in the book,
00:45:57it was written in the US.
00:45:58I will not go out of this country.
00:46:00And you'll go ahead and tell them.
00:46:01I was not going out of this country.
00:46:03I'm not going out of this country.
00:46:04failure to go on failure.
00:46:05I was not going on the same thing.
00:46:07The thing was wrong.
00:46:09I was saying that I was wrong.
00:46:11My visa was rejected from US.
00:46:14Then I got a visa by mail.
00:46:17No one gets me.
00:46:19By mail I got a visa.
00:46:21Three times rejected.
00:46:23After that, I got to US.
00:46:25I got a $100.
00:46:27I got a $100.
00:46:29I got a $100.
00:46:31I didn't know where I was going.
00:46:33Where I was going.
00:46:35What I was going to do in the airport.
00:46:37I thought that Jyotishi said,
00:46:38I have to go back.
00:46:40It becomes a mental block.
00:46:42That's why I didn't meet Jyotishi.
00:46:45It's a good time.
00:46:47The mental block is written in the story.
00:46:51The Fortune Teller.
00:46:53It's a story.
00:46:55It should be a lesson in the story.
00:46:59Chicken Soup of the I.I.T. and Soul.
00:47:01There were a lot of books.
00:47:03These were I.I.T. people made something.
00:47:06Do you think about it?
00:47:08How destiny is it?
00:47:10How hard work is it?
00:47:12Some people do hard work.
00:47:14But they don't achieve anything.
00:47:16Their goals are not viral.
00:47:18Is it destiny?
00:47:20Some people don't do anything.
00:47:22Suddenly they become famous.
00:47:24Destiny happens.
00:47:25But you have to work hard to make destiny work.
00:47:28Okay.
00:47:29Destiny is...
00:47:31They are not...
00:47:34They are not,
00:47:35You are not,
00:47:36You will have to be real.
00:47:38You will have to be real.
00:47:39You will have to be real.
00:47:40For the first to be famous.
00:47:41Yeah.
00:47:42You will say,
00:47:43I will be real.
00:47:44I will not be real.
00:47:45Destiny is written.
00:47:46My real is viral.
00:47:47I will not be real.
00:47:48How will it be?
00:47:49After you have to be real.
00:47:51After you will have to be real.
00:47:52Otherwise destiny will show you.
00:47:53will be seen. So, do it first.
00:47:55Okay.
00:47:57Don't think about outcome.
00:47:59First, make a real.
00:48:01Make a intention with the mind.
00:48:03I'm not making a real real.
00:48:05I'm making a real concept in 2 minutes.
00:48:09I'm making a real real.
00:48:11I'm making a real angle.
00:48:13I'm making a real angle.
00:48:15It's a real purpose.
00:48:17No, you want to make a difference.
00:48:19Whatever be the concept.
00:48:21If you have mindless reals,
00:48:23mindless reals will be closed.
00:48:25But the meaningful reals are also
00:48:27viral.
00:48:29It's different. First, you have to make a real
00:48:31with the mind.
00:48:33So, for destiny to
00:48:35happen,
00:48:37you have to do work first.
00:48:39Without the effort.
00:48:41After that,
00:48:43destiny
00:48:45is.
00:48:47That will happen.
00:48:49That will happen.
00:48:51That will happen.
00:48:53That will happen.
00:48:55That will happen.
00:48:57That will happen.
00:48:59But until you have to do it.
00:49:01You will be consistent.
00:49:03You will be consistent.
00:49:05You will not know when destiny will happen.
00:49:07That will happen.
00:49:09That will happen.
00:49:10That will happen.
00:49:11It will happen.
00:49:13There will be something from the fact.
00:49:15It will happen.
00:49:17That will happen.
00:49:19That will happen quickly.
00:49:20You will have to make value.
00:49:21Not on purpose.
00:49:23Again,
00:49:24that will happen.
00:49:25You will do it.
00:49:26First,
00:49:27please work.
00:49:28If it will happen to you or not.
00:49:30If it will not happen,
00:49:32then push more effort.
00:49:33Do not leave it.
00:49:35Be consistent.
00:49:36Be consistent.
00:49:37Don't leave the situation.
00:49:38Because when you leave the situation,
00:49:40you have a failure.
00:49:41If you don't leave the situation,
00:49:42you have a chance of success.
00:49:45I would like to talk about
00:49:47that as you talk about in your TED Talks
00:49:50about science and art
00:49:51and the merging of the both.
00:49:55So, what is your theory behind that?
00:50:01So,
00:50:01we learned that
00:50:04you have a left brain or a right brain.
00:50:07Left brain,
00:50:08who go to mathematics, accounting
00:50:09and all these things,
00:50:10they are very detailed oriented.
00:50:12Yang energy.
00:50:14The other side of the people,
00:50:15who have a right brain,
00:50:16are artistic,
00:50:17are creative,
00:50:18are thinking forward,
00:50:19imagine it.
00:50:22And some people,
00:50:23who take them together.
00:50:25Just like you.
00:50:26I am not,
00:50:27I am not.
00:50:29The world will know.
00:50:31But
00:50:31this concept,
00:50:34is that
00:50:35your left brain
00:50:38and right brain
00:50:38functions
00:50:39different.
00:50:41Okay.
00:50:42And some people,
00:50:43on one side,
00:50:44are leaning more.
00:50:47Some people,
00:50:47on the right side,
00:50:48are leaning more.
00:50:49And some people,
00:50:50on the both sides.
00:50:51They are very small minority of people,
00:50:56are whole brain thinkers.
00:50:59In whatever I have done,
00:51:01the number of times I have done it,
00:51:02I think I have some bit of both.
00:51:05I have brought art and science together.
00:51:07When I went to IIT,
00:51:10I also worked on art and design.
00:51:12I also worked on the master's,
00:51:14which I applied to IIT,
00:51:17was also on the industrial design.
00:51:20People today,
00:51:21the cars design,
00:51:22both are art and science.
00:51:23both are.
00:51:24Yes.
00:51:24If you design rocket design,
00:51:26it is also art and science.
00:51:27How it looks.
00:51:28Not just how it looks.
00:51:30The form and function,
00:51:31have to come together.
00:51:33Okay.
00:51:34If you create something like engineering,
00:51:36if you create an appeal,
00:51:36if you create an appeal,
00:51:38if you create an appeal,
00:51:39if you take art and art,
00:51:42then it will be 10x.
00:51:45So, you have to bring,
00:51:46Maruti 800 engineering car,
00:51:49and Jaguar,
00:51:51with art and science.
00:51:53BMW art and science.
00:51:55It is a design,
00:51:56a form,
00:51:57a aesthetic,
00:52:01how it looks.
00:52:02So, you have to,
00:52:04you have to bring both of them together,
00:52:06for people to appreciate,
00:52:08something.
00:52:09You,
00:52:09you have to bring both of them together,
00:52:10for people to appreciate,
00:52:11something.
00:52:12You,
00:52:12you have to bring the roads,
00:52:13very ugly roads,
00:52:15technically correct,
00:52:16but,
00:52:17aesthetic not.
00:52:19But,
00:52:19you go to any countries,
00:52:20and see,
00:52:21how the building is,
00:52:21wow.
00:52:23You will go to Spain,
00:52:23somewhere.
00:52:25You will see the building,
00:52:26you will see the building.
00:52:27Here,
00:52:27in India,
00:52:28what building is,
00:52:29you should leave it.
00:52:30But,
00:52:30there is also art.
00:52:31There is art.
00:52:33So,
00:52:33you understand,
00:52:33It is necessary to connect art and science to something good.
00:52:40Sometimes two people are working together.
00:52:44A left brain and a right brain will be able to get together.
00:52:47They can do good work.
00:52:50Because their coordination is good.
00:52:53Some husband and wife pairs are good.
00:52:57One is a little detail oriented.
00:53:00Like your left brain and brain are both coordinated.
00:53:06It is different but both are coordinated.
00:53:09Some companies are more art oriented.
00:53:13Some companies are more science oriented.
00:53:16But the really successful ones are both.
00:53:19So the really successful ones are both always.
00:53:22So you have got to bring both together.
00:53:25Tata's cars were very bad designs.
00:53:31Then they bought Jaguar.
00:53:33There were designers who wanted to work with them.
00:53:35Now you can see how the cars were good.
00:53:38Mahindra's car was like a jeep.
00:53:43They bought an Italian design company.
00:53:46Now you can see how the cars were good.
00:53:50Everybody realizes that at one point in time engineering has to merge with the design.
00:53:57That is why there are some people who can do it themselves.
00:54:03And others you have to bring people together.
00:54:05But what do we have to do with the audience?
00:54:07What do we have to do with the scientific mind and artistic mind?
00:54:11And practice.
00:54:13If you are left brain, start appreciating beauty.
00:54:19Start looking at beauty in small things.
00:54:21Suppose you are an accountant.
00:54:23Start seeing beauty in your numbers.
00:54:25Start seeing beauty.
00:54:26Start seeing form.
00:54:28Start seeing symmetry.
00:54:31Start seeing asymmetry.
00:54:34There is a lot of beauty in asymmetry.
00:54:36Not just symmetry.
00:54:38But integrate them.
00:54:40Whatever you are doing, you can get together.
00:54:43That is excellent.
00:54:45So that is my take.
00:54:47That is my philosophy.
00:54:48That is what I do all the time.
00:54:50And you explained it very well also in your TED talk.
00:54:52Yeah.
00:54:55And talking of art, you are also a painter.
00:54:58Right?
00:54:59So would you like to talk about your art and your paintings and what inspires you to paint?
00:55:04So, like everybody else, I also went to art school.
00:55:09Everybody goes through art school.
00:55:12A lot of people do learn a little bit when they are in school and college and others.
00:55:16But very few people, even big artists, very few people develop their own style.
00:55:21Yes.
00:55:22You know Mr. M.F. Hussain and you know his style.
00:55:26When you see a painting, you will immediately be able to say that this is Hussain's painting.
00:55:31You will see the painting of Raza's painting.
00:55:34It will be full-stop.
00:55:35It is his signature style.
00:55:36It is his signature style.
00:55:37It is full-stop.
00:55:38Yes.
00:55:39So, I came up with a form of using the shape of a comma.
00:55:57Though it is not a comma, but it is a shape of a comma.
00:56:00Okay.
00:56:01And I build all my abstract art using that shape.
00:56:06Interesting.
00:56:07So, I visualize gods and goddesses.
00:56:10I visualize horses.
00:56:12In fact, I have taken Hussain's paintings and I have made it in a shape of commas.
00:56:17Oh my God.
00:56:19He has interpreted them in lines and shapes.
00:56:22I don't know whether you know the story about his horses.
00:56:25He was in a stable for a long period of time.
00:56:30He started drawing them in their pure form first.
00:56:33If you see early Hussain's paintings, the horses were more realistic.
00:56:39As he developed over time, he made them teda, meda, pair, aisa, aisa.
00:56:44But you would still know that they were horses.
00:56:47You would still see passion in those horses.
00:56:50You will still see life in those horses.
00:56:52Though they were completely marauded.
00:56:56Yeah, multi-dimensional horses.
00:56:58So, I make that thing with a comma.
00:57:01Okay.
00:57:02But why the comma?
00:57:04The comma has a lot of...
00:57:05When I started, it had little significance.
00:57:08But over time, I built a philosophy around the comma.
00:57:10The comma is like a...
00:57:12It's called the continuum.
00:57:14You don't stop.
00:57:16The comma means that you keep moving forward in life.
00:57:19Okay.
00:57:20It's not finished.
00:57:22Yes.
00:57:23Comma sort of signifies life where you are...
00:57:25You are not stopping.
00:57:26Continuation.
00:57:27Continuation of life.
00:57:28Okay.
00:57:29Our whole philosophy is about continuity.
00:57:32It's about repeated work.
00:57:34It is not about stopping something.
00:57:36Okay.
00:57:37It is about going through things.
00:57:38Maybe taking a pause, but...
00:57:39And pause and further.
00:57:40Okay.
00:57:41Excellent.
00:57:42So, the comma is very significant.
00:57:43It's also very significant.
00:57:44If you put a comma in a place, it's a meaning.
00:57:47If you put a comma in a place, it's a meaning.
00:57:48If you put a comma in a place, it's a meaning.
00:57:49It's a change.
00:57:50So, the comma is a lot of English language and philosophy.
00:57:55There is an explanation of a lot of English language and philosophy.
00:57:58But I didn't get into it with too much of philosophy.
00:58:01When I got into it, it was a form for me.
00:58:03Okay.
00:58:04It had...
00:58:05It had a shape and...
00:58:06I did my wedding card.
00:58:08That was my first instantiation of my painting with a comma style.
00:58:12I did...
00:58:13I drew my own wedding card.
00:58:15Wedding card.
00:58:16Oh my God.
00:58:17From there, and my wife allowed me to do it.
00:58:18So, that's it.
00:58:19Yeah.
00:58:20She did object.
00:58:21What are you doing now?
00:58:23After that, I took that thing...
00:58:26My first set of paintings on the comma style was about weddings.
00:58:29About love.
00:58:31About...
00:58:32The whole process of creation, procreation.
00:58:36About childbirth.
00:58:38About the motherhood.
00:58:40So, as my life went from the wedding to my children coming on board, my paintings started bringing my life into those things.
00:58:50And then I started drawing gods and goddesses.
00:58:55Durga, Ganesh, Narasimha.
00:58:58Then I started doing horses.
00:59:00Lots of horses with...
00:59:02With comma style.
00:59:04Then...
00:59:05Then I started seeing it in flowers.
00:59:07I started seeing...
00:59:08I see any form and I immediately...
00:59:11I start thinking about how to draw it in there.
00:59:14I visualize it in...
00:59:15In comma.
00:59:16And then I sketch it.
00:59:17I was...
00:59:18I was flying to...
00:59:19To Delhi very often for my work.
00:59:23Okay.
00:59:24And...
00:59:25And...
00:59:26Jet Airways...
00:59:27In that time.
00:59:28So, Jet Airways...
00:59:29In that time.
00:59:30There were very good poses of Bharatanatyam.
00:59:32There were very good poses of Bharatanatyam.
00:59:33There was a dancer.
00:59:34So, I sat on the iPad.
00:59:36I made a whole series of Bharatanatyam.
00:59:38I made a comma in a whole series of Bharatanatyam.
00:59:40My God.
00:59:41In the plane.
00:59:42I sat on the plane.
00:59:43Okay.
00:59:44But...
00:59:45That's what...
00:59:46That's what...
00:59:47That's what I mean.
00:59:48So, I have developed a style.
00:59:49Hmm.
00:59:50And I explore it in every little way.
00:59:54My designs.
00:59:55My...
00:59:56Anything that I do.
01:00:00Even the work that I am doing in my house.
01:00:02Right now.
01:00:03They all have comma shapes in it.
01:00:05Oh my God.
01:00:06They are...
01:00:07The logo of my company is...
01:00:09Has got those things in...
01:00:11So, everybody knows that...
01:00:13There has to be a comma in something that is associated with me.
01:00:16Oh.
01:00:17So, you will find it.
01:00:18You will...
01:00:19You look at my shapes in my life and you will find commas everywhere.
01:00:22It's nice that this continuation philosophy you have expressed in your paintings.
01:00:27In your house.
01:00:28And everywhere you express yourself through your philosophies.
01:00:31Yeah.
01:00:32Yeah.
01:00:33So, I bring things together.
01:00:34That's one of the things that I do very differently.
01:00:37That I bring all my perspectives together all the time.
01:00:41Whether it's philosophy or science or aesthetics or arts.
01:00:44Yeah.
01:00:45Or music or bakery or anything.
01:00:47All of it has the same theme, the same philosophical, same internal motivations are the same.
01:00:54And everything has a purpose.
01:00:56Everything has a purpose.
01:00:57Everything has a purpose.
01:00:58Yeah.
01:00:59Like, if you have logo, there will be something behind you.
01:01:02There will be something behind you.
01:01:03There will be something behind me.
01:01:04There will be something behind me.
01:01:05There will be something behind you.
01:01:06I will give you a TED talk.
01:01:07Okay.
01:01:08One talk.
01:01:09I mean, every thing can be a story.
01:01:12Okay.
01:01:13Okay.
01:01:14So, not any accidental.
01:01:16Everything is planned.
01:01:17Yeah, yeah.
01:01:18Should be.
01:01:19Should be, yes.
01:01:20And the accident itself can be planned.
01:01:22Okay.
01:01:23If someone does something, accidents happen.
01:01:25Something happens.
01:01:26Something new happens.
01:01:27Something new happens.
01:01:29Then, a new network starts.
01:01:32You also have a habit of blending things.
01:01:35together. So why did this happen?
01:01:37We do this. We do this. We do it.
01:01:39We do it. We take it with two people.
01:01:41It will become something else. Again talking of connection and
01:01:44print. Yeah.
01:01:46So Sumit Ji, diving deeper
01:01:48into your paintings.
01:01:50So as an artist,
01:01:52does there have a vision before you do a painting?
01:01:54Like what is the funda behind this?
01:01:57One thing,
01:01:59artists,
01:02:01good artists and artists who have spent a lot of time thinking about things,
01:02:05always have a philosophy that they work towards.
01:02:08And a thought process which is not just one painting,
01:02:11but they think through a lot of...
01:02:13They have a story in their mind.
01:02:15Okay.
01:02:15And each painting is part of that story.
01:02:18Okay.
01:02:19And that a series of paintings make up the whole journey.
01:02:22So if you take any big artists,
01:02:24they all have a series of paintings to talk about it.
01:02:26And some of the earlier artists from Italy,
01:02:30Michelangelo and others, they used to get a whole wall
01:02:33and their painting was like a hundred meter wall painting.
01:02:38Right?
01:02:39So they had like, you can say a hundred paintings in there.
01:02:42Okay.
01:02:43But they had a story.
01:02:44They were talking about how Jesus was born.
01:02:46Even in our temples,
01:02:47if you take a look at the paintings and the crafts,
01:02:50they all tell a story.
01:02:52Yeah.
01:02:53So all artists are trying to tell a story.
01:02:55Okay.
01:02:56So the story, there could be a journey of a story,
01:02:59which is events happening,
01:03:01or it could be capturing a moment.
01:03:04And you are visualizing that moment that in this story,
01:03:08this was the moment.
01:03:09And you try to depict that moment in your own style.
01:03:13Now the second thing that artists have,
01:03:15apart from that story,
01:03:16is a style.
01:03:17Okay.
01:03:18And that style,
01:03:20people develop by repeatedly doing the same thing over again.
01:03:24Again, the repetition comes in over there.
01:03:26They repeatedly do the same style over and over again.
01:03:29And they perfect a way in which their style is identifiable.
01:03:34A Hussain-Sahabh is identifiable.
01:03:36A Raza is identifiable.
01:03:37A Picasso is identifiable.
01:03:38It's not just one.
01:03:39You see a Picasso.
01:03:40You know that this Picasso is a Picasso.
01:03:44So every one has a style.
01:03:47So my style is a comma.
01:03:49If my friends,
01:03:51if they will see a painting somewhere,
01:03:53they will say that this is a painting.
01:03:55Because they know that what is my style.
01:03:58They will see my painting twice.
01:04:00They will know that what is my style.
01:04:03So my style is unique and it is identifiable.
01:04:06A lot of people don't have that.
01:04:08I am fortunate to have developed a style.
01:04:10Now I still have to perfect it.
01:04:12I still have a long way to go.
01:04:14I am very young.
01:04:16I have got 30 years of painting life ahead of me.
01:04:19So I will do it.
01:04:21I have left that for a later part of my life.
01:04:26To perfect this style.
01:04:28To do something more with it.
01:04:30But a story and a style.
01:04:34And a continuation.
01:04:35And the continuity of your thought over these journeys.
01:04:38And then there are breaks.
01:04:40If you take a Picasso, he has got three breaks.
01:04:42If you look at Hussain Saab, he has got multiple breaks in his life.
01:04:45Of one style then migrating to another style and migrating to another style.
01:04:48All the styles change.
01:04:49They are distinct.
01:04:50Yes.
01:04:51So people evolve.
01:04:52They learn.
01:04:53They move to.
01:04:54People go into different mediums.
01:04:56Before someone did painting, then sculpture.
01:04:59Okay.
01:05:00Then furniture.
01:05:01I have done furniture in Kama style.
01:05:04Oh my God.
01:05:05I have done the crib of my son in the style of a Kama.
01:05:09That one I want to see.
01:05:11So as you can say, you have a style and you have a form and you are trying to visualize something and you are putting it into every form of your life.
01:05:22So that is where I would say, that the artist has to be a vision.
01:05:29Their philosophy.
01:05:30Their philosophy is very important to know the artist's philosophy.
01:05:33So that is why people also were all philosophers.
01:05:37They were all thinking.
01:05:39They were all thinking.
01:05:40They had a long time for their time.
01:05:42They were thinking about painting.
01:05:43They were thinking about it.
01:05:45So what that is, repetitive work is to have a lot of time for people to think about it.
01:05:51Yes, this is a long story to tell.
01:05:54Yes, this is it.
01:05:56Yes.
01:05:57Now, again, talking about motivational speaking.
01:06:01I would like to know that…
01:06:03because a lot of people have a stage fear of talking.
01:06:07How do you express yourself in front of a crowd?
01:06:11So, that is a surprise.
01:06:13You don't have that confidence.
01:06:15So, can you tell us, as a motivational speaker,
01:06:18about your journey, people inspire you?
01:06:21Or how did it start?
01:06:23Actually, I was a very shy person.
01:06:26Oh my God.
01:06:27By natural tendencies,
01:06:30which are psychometric tests,
01:06:33every time it comes to say,
01:06:36I am a very shy person.
01:06:37I will not be…
01:06:39But some things you realize,
01:06:42that to be successful in life,
01:06:44public speaking is an absolutely essential skill.
01:06:50You will find very, very few successful people,
01:06:53who cannot speak.
01:06:55Okay.
01:06:56So, to be successful,
01:06:57you have to be a good speaker.
01:06:59Not just be a good speaker,
01:07:00you have to be able to articulate,
01:07:03that you are doing what you are doing,
01:07:04you need to understand people.
01:07:06Yes.
01:07:07So, for this to be a good speaker,
01:07:08you have to understand ten people.
01:07:10You have to learn in your company,
01:07:12you have to walk in the meeting,
01:07:13and you have to tell people,
01:07:14that you are my plan,
01:07:15that you are my idea,
01:07:16you accept yourself.
01:07:18You have to do it.
01:07:19You have to give an presentation.
01:07:20So, I didn't have to say it.
01:07:22I did not speak a lot.
01:07:23I did not do it at school.
01:07:26I was never in debates.
01:07:27I was running back.
01:07:28How many opportunities I got to get back.
01:07:30You were hiding.
01:07:31You were hiding.
01:07:32You were hiding.
01:07:33You were hiding.
01:07:34Or, you were hiding in the world.
01:07:35I was really nervous
01:07:37I was nervous
01:07:38I had a group
01:07:41But I was nervous
01:07:43I was nervous
01:07:45When I was nervous
01:07:47I was nervous
01:07:49But I was nervous
01:07:50Spotlight
01:07:51I was scared
01:07:51When I joined my job
01:07:54I was scared
01:07:56But I did
01:07:59I did
01:08:01My skill was
01:08:03But when I joined my job, there was a training of public speaking, so I joined him.
01:08:12One week, a trainer taught us a lot. That changed my life completely.
01:08:21How I was presenting, how I was speaking, what and who I was speaking to.
01:08:26How do I change myself based on who I am speaking to.
01:08:30How do I change my voice, how do I make myself approachable through that talk.
01:08:38That was a turning point in my…so going through a training of public speaking was absolutely a change for me.
01:08:50A lot of people go through this Toastmasters.
01:08:54Yes.
01:08:55That's a very good way to break the ice and go and start learning and giving talks and giving, take random ideas and speaking about it.
01:09:04So, that's one. For me, it was presentations to clients.
01:09:07That was my repeated practice of giving talks.
01:09:12Then I realized that I have got something meaningful to say.
01:09:15So, when I became the CIO for Reliance, I had 3000 young people working for me.
01:09:22Quite a huge crowd.
01:09:24So, it was a huge crowd.
01:09:25So, it was a huge crowd.
01:09:26And of which 60 to 70% of them were very young people.
01:09:2920, 25, 28 was my maximum age of these people.
01:09:33Software development team, training team.
01:09:36So, I used to sit and motivate them.
01:09:40I used to have something called coffee with CIO.
01:09:43So, they came.
01:09:44No agenda.
01:09:45Everyone left everything and talked to me.
01:09:48One hour, two hours.
01:09:50We were sitting with no agenda.
01:09:56So, we used to talk about things.
01:09:58What's happening in their lives?
01:09:59Where are they busy?
01:10:00What's happening?
01:10:01So, after a few days, I started realizing that I am repeating what my advice is to people.
01:10:06So, I told my secretary to start sitting down with me and writing down what I am saying.
01:10:11Because I can't write down what I am saying.
01:10:12I am going out spontaneously.
01:10:14Okay.
01:10:15So, she started writing down my statements.
01:10:20Okay.
01:10:21That became the foundation of the book, by the way.
01:10:24Oh my God.
01:10:25Again interlinked.
01:10:26Yes.
01:10:27I realized that I am repeating certain ideas were my own.
01:10:30That was a new way of looking at career, a new way of looking at how to deal with problems,
01:10:35how to deal with situations, solutions around various things.
01:10:38So, I started writing them down.
01:10:40And once you start writing them down, and you repeatedly keep on doing the same thing,
01:10:45and you try to explain it to youngsters, try to explain it to non-technical people,
01:10:51try to explain it to this TED talk concept that you must have found it very intriguing.
01:10:57I try to explain it to drivers.
01:11:00Only when I know that I am making sense, if I can explain my concept to absolutely uneducated people.
01:11:09Right?
01:11:10If you take a look at any leader, let's take religious leaders and take corporate leaders.
01:11:16Religious leaders absolutely marvel in explaining a concept to anyone.
01:11:20To anyone.
01:11:21Yeah.
01:11:22They can reach everyone.
01:11:23They can reach everyone.
01:11:24Politicians, they can reach everyone.
01:11:26Corporate leaders, they can reach anyone.
01:11:29So, if you think the key skill, one skill that is not taught enough in our life,
01:11:36which is not taught in our whole curriculum,
01:11:39which is not taught in our whole curriculum,
01:11:40which is not taught in our whole curriculum,
01:11:42which is not focused on that,
01:11:43which is not taught in our public speaking.
01:11:44Speaking and confidence.
01:11:45The confidence behind it is underplayed in our education system.
01:11:51Yes, that's right.
01:11:52So, my goal will be to people,
01:11:56if you have the opportunity,
01:11:58you should do it.
01:11:59If you have the opportunity to take a part in drama,
01:12:02you should take it.
01:12:03If you want to go to drama school,
01:12:06then do it.
01:12:07You will also become an engineer,
01:12:08but go to drama school first.
01:12:10Put yourself in the spot.
01:12:11Put yourself in the spot.
01:12:12Learn from somebody else.
01:12:14So, this concept is very important.
01:12:17One of my realizations in life,
01:12:21that you have to learn how to communicate what you are doing.
01:12:24My concept is art.
01:12:26Whatever I can do with philosophy,
01:12:29if I can't explain it,
01:12:31I will not understand what I am doing.
01:12:33Yes.
01:12:34But this is a very good thing,
01:12:36that you are so shy.
01:12:38You broke the barriers.
01:12:40It's an acquired skill.
01:12:41Yes.
01:12:42And you have to always have acquired skill.
01:12:44If you have left brain,
01:12:45then acquire your right brain skills.
01:12:47Learn.
01:12:48Learn.
01:12:49Learn.
01:12:50If you don't have it,
01:12:51then learn.
01:12:52And you being a TED Talker
01:12:53and a motivational speaker,
01:12:55I am sure that people,
01:12:56if you practice this thing,
01:12:58they can also get out of their shell.
01:13:00Another thing is that,
01:13:01if there is any opportunity,
01:13:02first, don't say it.
01:13:04First, say it yes,
01:13:05then prepare yourself for it.
01:13:07Okay.
01:13:08Grab it.
01:13:09Grab it.
01:13:10I have never given TED Talk.
01:13:11My first TED Talk was in TEDx,
01:13:13Janpath,
01:13:14the Delhi,
01:13:15the biggest TED,
01:13:16I got the opportunity.
01:13:17I didn't care?
01:13:18Yes.
01:13:19I told you,
01:13:20I was ready.
01:13:21I had to prepare.
01:13:22No, I had to prepare.
01:13:23So, never let an opportunity go.
01:13:25First say yes,
01:13:26then prepare.
01:13:27Oh, yeah.
01:13:28That was an excellent talk, Sumit Ji.
01:13:30I am sure you got so much insight,
01:13:32and I am sure you have given a lot of value today
