A 46-year-old man and his lover have been further remanded over the deaths of his two children, who drowned when a car plunged into Sungai Linggi in Port Dickson on Sept 4.

00:00Police have obtained a second remand order against a 46-year-old man whose two children
00:07drowned in a river mishap in Port Dixon earlier September. Negri Sembilan Police Chief Deputy
00:13Commissioner Datuk al-Zafni Ahmad said the order, issued by the magistrate's court in Port Dixon,
00:19allows police to hold the suspect until September 16. The remand of a 41-year-old woman,
00:25believed to be the man's lover, has also been extended for four days until September 15.
00:32Both orders were signed by Magistrate Mohamed Fares Rahman. The tragedy occurred on September 4
00:38when the siblings, an eight-year-old girl and her six-year-old brother, drowned after the car they
00:43were in rolled into Sungai Lingi at Tanjung Agas. Preliminary investigations revealed the man had
00:50stepped out of the parked car to smoke when the vehicle, with its engine switched off,
00:55began moving towards the river. Passersby managed to pull the woman to safety,
01:00but the children were trapped inside. The case is being investigated under Section 302
01:06of the Penal Code for Murder. Police checks showed the male suspect has 16 prior cases
01:11and is wanted for four other offences. The car involved had also been reported stolen in Johor
01:17in 2022.
