00:00My mum used to say, did you go to school today?
00:04I'd say, yep.
00:05She'd say, come here.
00:07And she'd say, no, I know.
00:09You've been in that damn distillery again.
00:13Bed, no dinner.
00:16Ancient, natural, old, pure.
00:20The blood of one small nation, absolutely.
00:23In the mid-1970s, Scotch whisky ceased to be fashionable
00:27when it became Dad's drink.
00:28There was just a massive bust.
00:32I've never once met anyone who goes,
00:35and there's no emotion behind it.
00:37If you do that, God, go and drink vodka.
00:40Even though I'm a scientist,
00:42it's actually much, much more of an art.
00:48Looking at Rokladi, I said, someday,
00:51I would love to make whisky at that distillery.
00:54The place was falling apart.
00:56There was a sign.
00:58It sort of encompasses the whole whisky industry at the time.
01:01Exclamation.
01:03And I can remember thinking, I've got to do something about it.
01:07I got a phone call from the chairman of Rokladi.
01:11I said, the answer is yes.
01:13He said, really?
01:13Very different people with different background and experience
01:17who all came together with the same goal of bringing this distillery back to life.
01:21The most unlikely partnership in the history of whisky.
01:25It's hysterical.
01:28Jim reveled in the freedom that he was given, sometimes a little too much.
01:34I could make virtually what I wanted.
01:37There's a Rokladi every week, wasn't there?
01:39There's probably too many.
01:40I said, why are you doing this?
01:42He looked at me with his wild eyes and said, because we can.
01:46And because we're having fun.
01:51There aren't as many true mavericks anymore, learning quite literally from scratch.
01:57Mark and I had many battles.
02:06We detonated.
02:08Yeah, emotionally, it cost me a lot.
02:14But we did it.
02:15We touched the void.
02:22Oh, my God.
02:23How far can we go, you know?
