00:00Well, in honor of Veterans Day, the military channel will be showing several different video diaries from soldiers over in Iraq.
00:06And it just so happens that one of those diaries is from a soldier in our area. NBC6's Veldin Lynn has his story.
00:12Veterans Day is a special time for so many soldiers across the country. For Jason B. Morgan, it holds a significant place in his heart.
00:20Actually experiencing hardship and experiencing what soldiers have to go through for their country gives you new appreciation for it.
00:27While Jason was in Iraq, he saw and experienced many different aspects of the war.
00:32We got to work with the people, got to meet a lot of the locals, and we were in southern Iraq where we actually were more welcomed by the locals.
00:40And you'd see them along the side of the road waving at you, giving you the thumbs up, and you felt like at points like that's when you were doing a good job.
00:47So Jason started capturing all of his experience on video to show them to the world.
00:52We ran convoy escorts where we were mainly just running vehicles up and down the road.
00:57And didn't really get into a lot of action. We had some scary moments from time to time.
01:03And Jason's footage is so good that it has drawn national attention from some very big network channels.
01:09The War Diary television show that airs on the military channels tonight, they're taking soldiers' different perspectives.
01:15And what they're looking at is they have videos of the firefights.
01:19They have videos of some just different activities that soldiers do.
01:23And some of the stuff that got picked to highlight on my reel was we went out on a convoy one day, and our windshield wipers weren't working.
01:30It was during a rainstorm.
01:31So I'm videoing that.
01:32And then I videoed scenes where we're at the rifle range practicing.
01:37And as I said before, just day-by-day life, the landscapes.
01:40And I tried to make and film this video to where my parents could show it at school.
01:45And I have been at local elementary schools with it and showing it off, and the children love it.
01:49With photographer Robert Pauley, I'm Belden Lynn, NBC6.
01:53Now Jason's Video Diary will air tonight on the Military Channel beginning at 9 and next Saturday on the Discovery Channel also at 9.
