00:00Right now, on the next stage over, we are filming Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Slingshot,
00:13which is our six-part digital series. There's parts of our story that we haven't had time to
00:19tell, so we're doing additional story. ABC and Marvel have been looking for a while
00:23to do a digital series connected to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The trick was finding
00:28something that fit snugly into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s timeline and the greater MCU. It features
00:33all of our S.H.I.E.L.D. regulars with a story revolving around the character of Elena Yo-Yo Rodriguez.
00:42Yo-Yo is our new inhuman character. Her superpowers are running really, really fast,
00:48but she always yo-yos back to where she started. In the space of a heartbeat,
00:53she's able to go from one spot and return back to where she started.
00:56I got lucky to be in one of these with Marvel legend, comic book artist, Joe Quesada.
01:04Joe is a Marvel's chief creative officer, and this is actually his directorial debut. The coolest part
01:10for me was when he brought his storyboards for the episode. I'm sort of a planning fanatic with
01:15stuff, so I did very detailed storyboards. Directing for the first time has been an amazing experience.
01:23Well, you know, the digital series, first of all, it's a lot of fun, right? Because we get to tell
01:26the story sort of in between the cracks. We had this gap in time between season three
01:31and season four, so the writers started with that. And then at the same time, we also had
01:35Marvel's Captain America Civil War, which introduced the Sokovia Accords. As many know,
01:40plays a huge role in S.H.I.E.L.D. and how they managed enhanced individuals.
01:44You're signing the Sokovia Accords. That's a big step.
01:47I think she really wants to believe in them. She really wants to trust them, because there's
01:51a solitude and loneliness to going rogue or being by yourself. But she can't completely
01:58silence that part of her yet. She has this rebel in her and this need to respond for herself
02:03and find justice just for herself, but now she's found a team. It explores a lot of her
02:08stance within the institution of S.H.I.E.L.D. and anything that has to do with bureaucracy
02:14or government. And that's the whole adjustment.
02:17We're all in agreement here. Bureaucracy can be frustrating, but it works in the long run.
02:23The character of Yo-Yo that Natalia has come up with, with the writers, has become a really
02:30integral part of the show. Being part of the Slingshot digital series is very, very special.
02:35I've never had a lead in a TV show. I've never held the full story on my shoulders,
02:41so I'm learning so much about myself and how to build a character. It's rare to get these
02:46opportunities, so I'm very grateful.
02:48Fans should be very excited about what we have coming up. It's going to have stunts, action,
02:53visual effects, everything that fans want. But beyond that, it's a little bit different
02:57because we're able to take some added time and focus just on one character and learn a little
03:02bit more about her and her backstory and who she is.
