After launching the "Kampung Angkat and Sekolah Angkat Madani JIM" programme in Baling, Kedah on Friday (Sept 5), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told the media that the Immigration Department will issue compound notices on foreigners who overstay in the country for up to 90 days, starting from Oct 1.

Saifuddin said this aims to expedite the legal process by eliminating the need to open an investigation and bring cases to court.

00:34if authorities issue compound notices to the offenders.
00:39He said those who overstay between 1 and 30 days
00:41will be fined 30 ringgit per day, up to a maximum of 900 ringgit,
00:46while those overstaying between 31 and 60 days
00:50will be fined 1,000 ringgit.
00:52Foreigners who overstay between 61 and 90 days
00:56will be slapped with a 2,000 ringgit fine,
00:59authorities will open investigation paper
01:02and prosecute those who overstayed for years.

01:09a total of 35,225 illegal immigrants
01:13had been detained for various immigration offenses,
