00:00Welcome to the start of Leg 3 of the Ocean Race Europe 2025, here in Cartagena on the southern coast of Spain.
00:11Leg 3 is going to take our seven Amokka teams north to the French coast and the city of Nice.
00:18It's quite a straightforward route, but the start is tricky.
00:23We are facing an upwind start line, a little bit of seaway, and a decent amount of breeze.
00:31Our seven Amokkas will certainly be fully powered up, and we're going to ride along with them as we get to the two-minute mark for the start line.
00:41And then we will stay with these boats as they head off on this journey.
00:46Right now, on board with Team Holson PRB.
00:49Carolyn Brower, Rosalind Kuyper, on the pumps, on the winches, providing the power.
01:00The view from the sky as we get into that one-minute-forty to go.
01:05And that yellow mark just on the bottom left-hand side of your screen, that is one end of the start line.
01:12Team Holson PRB, Biotherm, Alaglande Mape, Team Milizia, all within picture at the moment.
01:20The other three Amokkas out of view on the right-hand side.
01:23Team Milizia now deploying their jib.
01:26And in fact, Team Milizia just starting to creep backwards at the moment, needing that jib, needing that forward sail, just to get the boat under control.
01:35The last time we saw that team start was in cows, and they got their timing disastrously wrong.
01:40They began the leg, they began off the line, on the back foot.
01:45Maybe 20 seconds back from the line and behind everybody else.
01:49This time, they're determined to catch up, so they are pushing forward now.
01:53Alaglande Mape with their jib out, holding back.
01:55Team Amala comes in from the left-hand side.
01:59And Team Holson PRB is looking to loop round now.
02:02Canada Ocean Racing, B-Ward positive in the blue, also coming up to the line.
02:20All seven Amokkas now approaching the line.
02:22Paprik Arkea coming in from the right-hand side.
02:24They have got all the rights.
02:25Everybody else wanting to start on Port Tac, but that means you have to give way to Paprik Arkea coming, charging through.
02:34Team Holson PRB going behind.
02:36Canada Ocean Racing with the blue sails also going behind.
02:39There's a big bunch coming in on the right-hand side.
02:41There's only going to be room for one.
02:42Team Milizia gets the first spot, but it's a big bear away to go behind Paprik Arkea.
02:47And the start gun fires, and I think Paprik Arkea has absolutely nailed the timing into that line to perfection.
03:01Pushing into that line on that far side.
03:03Biotherm just squeezing in underneath Paprik Arkea.
03:06Team Amala just behind.
03:07The big question is, can Alaglande Mape get some room?
03:10They do not have the rights to squeeze in here.
03:12Team Amala need to leave some space.
03:14And it is very close on that right-hand side of your picture.
03:18Remember, these boats, the foils, the outriggers, everything sticking out.
03:23And Alaglande Mape is dangerously close at the moment to Team Amala.
03:26And Team Amala are putting the bow up.
03:28They are squeezing upwards, reducing that narrow gauge between the two boats even tighter.
03:34And all of this means that Ambrosio Beccario is having to hold his bow up.
03:39He's having to go slow.
03:40He needs to give way.
03:41He has to keep clear.
03:42Team Amala will be winning this bow.
03:45Meanwhile, Biotherm out in front looking really strong.
03:49Paprik Arkea, the only boat to start on starboard tack, heading over to the right-hand side.
03:53We can expect them to tack pretty soon.
03:55And the same thing is going on at the moment with Team Holsten PRB and Team Milizia.
04:00Really close together.
04:02Frank Hamas on Team Holsten PRB pushing the bow up high.
04:05really squeezing off Team Milizia.
04:08And the German flag team already suffering.
04:12Boris Herrmann, the skipper, back on the helm for this leg.
04:14And they will be feeling the pinch.
04:18They are only getting the leftover wind from Team Holsten PRB.
04:23Behind those two, Team Amala and Alla Grande Mape, still very close indeed.
04:29Team Amala is refusing to let Ambrosio Beccario through.
04:33Now the big slip.
04:36Alla Grande Mape falling behind.
04:39And we get a one, two, three, four.
04:42The procession starts with these four boats.
04:45Biotherm really finding some space.
04:48Round the stern of Paprikark Air is enjoying some wonderful free air.
04:58Here's the view from Biotherm.
05:00Sam Goodchild, just to Lewitt, keeping his eyes peeled with that headset.
05:04Locked in to Paul Mayer on the other side of the boat.
05:09Being able to paint the picture and describe the sight.
05:12And it's a good sight.
05:16Nicely to Wynwood.
05:18Now technically in the rules, if Team Holsten PRB, if Team Milizia were to tack over,
05:29Biotherm would have to avoid.
05:31But I don't think the Team Holsten PRB is going to be able to do that.
05:34Oh, and look at this.
05:35So Alla Grande Mape, they had had enough of being pushed to Wynwood,
05:41to the left-hand side of Team Amala.
05:43They didn't like that position.
05:44And as soon as Team Amala pushed ahead, Alla Grande Mape came underneath.
05:48And is now powering away.
05:50Each of these boats, a different design, a different style of sailing needed.
05:55And for Alla Grande Mape and Ambrosio Beccaria,
05:57he wanted to be free.
06:00And now, with Alan Rora above him, Alla Grande Mape can put the bow down.
06:05They can sail a little bit freer, a little bit further away.
06:07A lower angle.
06:08And with that, the speed will come.
06:11I'm sure his pulse was racing at that start.
06:17That was very close between these boats.
06:18And there were flashes at that start in Kiel going through my mind.
06:21And now they've got a bit of space, avoiding the drama and enjoying the clear air.
06:28Scottshore on the helm of Canada Ocean Racing B-Ward-Mozco.
06:33All the teams at the moment pushing away from the start line, sailing upwind.
06:47The scoring gate about 14 nautical miles away, but it will be a beat all the way up to that scoring gate.
06:56So we're going to be seeing plenty of manoeuvres and plenty of opportunities.
07:01And for Canada Ocean Racing, they think that it's best to be to the right-hand side of that group.
07:08One, two, three, four, five Imokas over their shoulder.
07:14Six Imokas with Paprika Kea as well.
07:22So our furthest boat on the right-hand side.
07:26With Scottshore on the helm.
07:28This is where it's really challenging as a helm.
07:30You want to look over and look at this group here, but you need to keep your eyes on your instruments and on your sails.
07:37On board with Team Holston PRB.
07:44Now on to starboard.
07:50Leading that pack into the cliffs.
07:56And if was to !
07:57Alright to go.
07:58Nice.
07:58All right,
07:59good
08:00you
08:00hi,
08:01what what
08:10we
08:14was
08:19on the high viewer?
08:24Boris Herman, le skipper de Team Militia.
08:29Il took la dernière leg off,
08:31handing the keys to Will Harris,
08:32very much his right-hand man.
08:34This time, Will Harris steps away,
08:36parenting duties.
08:39Sailing on that leeward side,
08:40and Paprik Arkea now going behind.
08:43So Paprik Arkea
08:44coming back across
08:46on Port Tack.
08:48This was the boat that started so strong
08:50on that line, on starboard,
08:51forcing everybody else behind,
08:53but sailing in close to the cliffs
08:56and having to do those extra manoeuvres
08:57to be in that position
08:59has pushed them back at the moment.
09:05Down below on Paprik Arkea
09:07a new skipper
09:11for this leg.
09:18Jan Elias,
09:20or I should say skipper,
09:21not actually skipper,
09:22Corantin Horu takes over
09:24the skipper role,
09:24but Jan Elias,
09:25three times winner
09:26of the Solitaire de Figaro,
09:28steps in to replace
09:29Johan Rochon,
09:30who's taking this leg ashore.
09:32Mariana Labateau
09:33on the winches.
09:34Ambrosio Becario on
09:53Alagrande Mape,
09:53and Alagrande Mape.
09:54He's taking his turn now
09:57to be
09:57down on the far side.
10:04Over the left-hand side
10:05of the picture,
10:06out of view,
10:06Canada Ocean Racing,
10:07be water positive.
10:11Biotherm,
10:12just ahead of
10:14Alagrande Mape
10:14at the moment.
10:15Now how far
10:23do these three boats,
10:24Biotherm,
10:25Canada Ocean Racing,
10:27and Alagrande Mape go?
10:29Well,
10:29as I say that,
10:30Canada Ocean Racing
10:31now sailing back in,
10:32the further out this way,
10:34the sea state
10:34starts to build.
10:35You can see the boat
10:36pitching and rolling
10:37on the waves,
10:38but further north,
10:42in underneath those cliffs,
10:44the wind,
10:45a little bit more confused.
10:48So do you get the sea state
10:49on your side,
10:50or do you prefer
10:52the steadier breeze offshore?
10:59Abbey Eler
11:00stepping on board
11:01Alagrande Mape
11:02for this leg,
11:06part of Team Holson PRB,
11:08for the last edition
11:10of the Ocean Race
11:11with the
11:11Round the World course.
11:24Now if you have been
11:25in Cartagena,
11:26you will know
11:26it is incredibly hot
11:29there at the moment.
11:31And I'm sure
11:31these sailors
11:32will be very pleased
11:34to be heading off
11:36into the cool breezes
11:37of the evening
11:38and the night.
11:40But at the moment
11:40it is sweaty work ahead
11:42managing the full power
11:44of these seven Amokas
11:46as the breeze
11:46is blowing here.
11:47on board now
11:57with Team Amala.
11:58On board now
11:59with Team Amala.
12:00Alan Rora
12:11down below
12:13just feeding
12:15that little bit
12:15of information
12:16and coordinating
12:17the efforts
12:17of the two sailors
12:19inside.
12:21Rebecca Goumar
12:22Mathis Bourguignon
12:24up top
12:25Conrad Coleman
12:27taking on
12:28helming duties.
12:37They are coming across
12:38from the left-hand side
12:39but they are
12:40in the pack
12:41at the moment.
12:43And as they keep
12:43coming across that way
12:44they're going to
12:45come into
12:46Team Melitia
12:47and the others.
12:53Cole Brower
12:54on the right-hand side
12:55of your picture.

13:34now the right-hand side
13:36of Team Melitia
13:37able to keep an eye
13:38on the boats
13:39to his right
13:41on that far side.
13:45Slightly unconventional
13:47helming position
13:47but he certainly
13:48makes it work
13:49for him.
13:53Early stages
13:54in this leg
13:55but Team Melitia
13:56coming over
13:56on port tack
13:57and you can see
13:58Cole Brower
13:58and Francesca Klapcic
13:59working so hard

14:16to that first obstacle
14:17the bonus gate
14:19about 10 nautical miles
14:22to go
14:23but plenty
14:24of manoeuvres
14:25hard work
14:26and a lot
14:27of sweating
14:28before they get
14:30to that point
14:30and right now
14:32it is pretty close
14:33difficult to call
14:34who is going
14:35to get
14:35those two points
14:38for being the first
14:40to cross the line.
