Light Night Leeds 2025 date change

The dates of this October’s Light Night Leeds have been changed to avoid a clash with an upcoming Leeds United Premier League fixture.

00:00It'll soon be that time of year again as Light Night Leeds returns across Leeds City Centre.

00:06The event was originally due to take place on the 23rd and 24th of October,

00:10but those dates have now been brought forward to avoid a clash with a Leeds United Premier League fixture.

00:16After discussions with artists, stakeholders and sponsors,

00:20the decision has been taken to hold this year's annual Cultural Spectacular

00:24on Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd of October

00:29between 6pm and 10pm each night.

00:32Tens of thousands of people are expected to be in Leeds

00:35for both Light Night Leeds and Leeds United's clash with West Ham,

00:39and because of the match, visitors to Light Night would be unable to use the Ellen Road Park and Ride.

00:45The numbers of people expected to be travelling would also create wider pressures

00:50on the local public transport and road network,

00:52and while holding Light Night over the weekend has been explored,

00:56potential overcrowding and event management and security costs means that it's not now possible.

01:03It's thought that bringing Light Night Leeds forward by a day will mean both events

01:07can take place as safely and sustainably as possible,

01:10while giving fans and visitors an enjoyable evening.

01:13This year's theme is Landmarks, with the event set to celebrate historic civic buildings,

01:18modern architecture and public spaces,

01:20while also asking visitors to consider the places meaningful to them.

01:24The festival is organised and supported by Leeds City Council

01:27and funded by Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant funding

01:32and sponsors from the city's business community.

01:35Last year's event gave a huge boost to the local economy,

01:38generating an estimated £5.46 million,

01:41a 58% increase on the previous year.
