📄 Description
An Insulation Blower is a powerful machine designed to install loose-fill insulation materials like cellulose or mineral wool quickly and evenly. Perfect for attics, walls, and hard-to-reach areas, it helps improve energy efficiency and comfort by filling gaps and cavities with consistent insulation coverage.
In this video, we’ll show you how to set up and operate an insulation blower, how to load insulation properly, and tips to achieve uniform coverage without waste or mess.
💡 Pro Tip
Pre-fill the hopper evenly and avoid overloading to prevent clogs. Start blowing from the farthest corner and work your way back toward the attic access or wall opening. Adjust the airflow speed based on insulation type and desired density.
⚠️ Safety Reminder
Wear a dust mask or respirator, eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing to avoid irritation from insulation fibers. Ensure good ventilation when working in confined spaces. Keep electrical cords clear and dry to avoid hazards.

00:00well welcome back to our continuing series here and this is a piece of equipment not many people
00:16get to use very often this is an insulation blower now what this is for is blowing cellulose
00:21insulation which is the paper that gray insulation that you can buy in in bundles and first off
00:29make sure when you buy your material that hopefully it hasn't been sitting in a warehouse too long it is
00:36partial to getting wet and you do not want it to be wet or damp the corners a lot of time or what
00:43get a little wet or damp and they they make like chunks and that's what sometimes can give you a
00:48problem when you're trying to spray the cellulose now the cellulose is sprayed into the ceiling of
00:53your house or any building and it can also be used in the walls to insulate as opposed to using
01:02fiberglass insulation now this particular unit is a two-inch hose has about 75 feet of hose so this
01:11part is going to be outside usually or somewhere in the house which is not going to create a real mess
01:19or the area would be cordoned off maybe a plastic off window open because your cellulose is just like
01:26dry paper so it tends to blow everywhere now what you'll do here to hook this machine up is this hopper
01:34is a nice thing about this machine it was designed by a fella that actually did the job there and worked
01:40in blowing insulation so everything is accessible nothing's hidden there's no areas where it can get
01:46blocked that you can't see it where you can't clear it out and this is your blower this blower here will
01:55hook right on to this area here like so this end of the hose and as you see there's a rubber seal in
02:03it this will screw onto here just push it on and turn it it's got a couple little nibs on it all righty
02:10this is a remote start stop for the blower so that the person that's up in the attic or away from the
02:17machine can actually start and stop it because obviously when this material starts coming out of
02:22this hose there's no way some of them have a knob on it to turn it off we found that the problem with
02:31that is is if you don't get the blower off quick enough that even though you turn the knob and shut the
02:36material coming out of the hose it's still coming at you through the mixer and the blower and you
02:42start backing up in your hose and plugging your hose and that takes a while to unplug if you have
02:47ever had that happen to you so good idea to have this available this is a two-person job one person is
02:55going to be on this machine here down where you're putting the bats in and the material in and the other
03:00person is going to be at the end of the hose wherever that may be in the attic or on walls or whatever
03:04another real important thing is this little thing here which is the air inlet when you're blowing
03:11cellulose insulation unless you're going to be doing steady ceilings or only a ceiling and you won't have
03:19the reducer on as you see there I'll explain that in a moment but that's for the walls but if you just
03:24have a clear open hose then you can have this closed as much as you are comfortable with and you
03:31could have it closed and then you're shooting a hundred percent cellulose but bear in mind if
03:36there's any kind of obstruction or you want to there's a chunk in your hose or anything then it
03:42can't get through that when that stops everything backs up in the holes so it's always good I think
03:47to have there's a line we put on here as recommended there's always good to have a bit of air mixed with
03:53the cellulose as you're blowing it it may take a little bit longer because you're not blowing as much
04:00cellulose but you've got a little more control and that's probably worth it when you start to
04:05does this stuff no matter when you if it starts going all over the place it's pretty messy so you
04:11can turn it on and off with your switch the blower there's a breaker underneath these motors because
04:17you're running two motors you're running a mixing motor and you're running usually a blower off the same
04:22circuit so make sure you have adequate power and you're using a heavy number 12 extension cord which is
04:28available when you rent it there is a toggle switch the best way I find to have that toggle switch is
04:36so when you turn to the salon and add power that the mixer is going right away inside there's some
04:41paddles that are mixing the cellulose insulation and that's breaking it up because in the bags of
04:46course as you see when you open them they're so they're tightly packed so it's nice to make sure
04:51that that mixer is going right away rather than dumping material inside and you start getting chunks in
04:57the bottom it's nice to get it broken up as quickly as you can and then with the switch in that one
05:02position then you can have the mixer going right away and then you just click the toggle on your
05:10remote and that'll start the blower on and off that's probably the easiest way to to use it and I
05:16think we put right on here put it right to the right only in this particular case and that is that
05:21function because the other functions are the blower and mixer coming on together when you trigger the
05:27switch or maybe just the blower coming on first and then you have to put the mixer on so having that
05:33on right away is is perfect you've also got a couple of fuses here which sometimes are needed when you're
05:39don't have adequate power or you're you're you're pushing too much material now as I said when if I take this
05:50hose off it's a hopper you the person down here is going to pour the the cellulose insulation to the
05:56top of the hopper and breaking it up with their hands there are some rods across the top so you
06:01can't put your hands too far but there are steel mixers down here paddles and you want to have it
06:08broken up really well don't be afraid to have the mixer running for a while before you start or have
06:13it running and take your time shut it off make sure the operator down here has enough time to get
06:19material in there so it can mix up well and you don't get chunks through the chunks will will get
06:26caught down here but also as you would as you would figure because this is a smaller one inch nozzle
06:35the chunks would get stuck in here now once they get stuck and it starts backing up in the hose you've
06:40got some problems that's why this particular hose I think comes in a 25 and a 50 foot length so at least
06:45you can break it in your first 25 feet to get it cleared out now if you're not going to do walls
06:51where you drill a hole in the side of the walls top and bottom to stick this in and fill up the
06:56wall if you're not going to do walls take this off it's just held on with a clamp and just have it
07:02coming out freely less chances of the hose getting plugged up and obviously it's going to go out a lot
07:07quicker and you don't really need this nozzle when you're not doing the walls so there's a there's a
07:14job that takes a few things to know but you can tackle it yourself take your time and hopefully you
07:22can learn something from what I just passed on to you and you can subscribe thank you
