00:00Welcome to the Mitchell Library. This was the result of a legacy from Stephen Mitchell,
00:05a city merchant. It allowed us to have this beautiful building in front of us.
00:09This is actually the third home of the Mitchell Library and we moved here in 1911.
00:13In the Mitchell we have over two million items available for people to borrow.
00:16The majority of them are in our clothes stacks. A selection of them are out on floors like this
00:21one. We have material that covers loads and loads of topics. Last year we had over 270,000
00:29visitors to the Mitchell Library and there's a huge range of people that use the service from
00:35the most vulnerable people in society to academic researchers to people running their business.
00:41We have over two million items in our collection and we add to them regularly on a range of topics
00:48and not just books. We are in the BIPC, as we call it, which is the Business and Intellectual
00:54Property Centre. This is a unique resource in Glasgow and in Scotland. It's the only one in Scotland.
00:58It's part of a wider network that's led by the British Library in London and through that we
01:04have a series of workshops. We work in partnership with experts. We'll help you establish your business.
01:10If you were, for example, looking to be a child minder and you didn't know what you needed,
01:14what qualifications, we have resources here that you can look at and it'll tell you what legally you
01:19need, what training they might recommend and ideas about how to market your business. If you want to
01:24just come in and maybe meet a client, you can come in and meet your client in the space or you might
01:30want to work because you're sick of being in the office, you're sick of being at home when you're
01:33working from home and we have spaces there that people can just co-work together. Access to the
01:39business resources and the space is all free. It's just waiting here for people to come along and use it.
