00:00Just off Gok Samui is Gok Matsum, also called Pig Island, a small island famous for its large
00:06population of pigs that live freely along the sandy beaches. Locals there once told the media
00:12that the pigs started with just a few rescued animals. A local man bought them at a market
00:18in Sulatrani province to save them from being sold for meat and brought them to the island.
00:23Over the years the pigs multiply naturally and now there are dozens living on the island.
00:29They have become one of Gok Matsum's most popular attractions for tourists.
00:33Visitors can take a short boat ride from Gok Samui to feed the pigs,
00:37swim with them, snorkel in the clear water, or just relax on the clean and quiet beaches.
00:43Interestingly, the pigs on Gok Matsum have become so used to humans
00:47that they often swim out to greet arriving boats.
