00:00I said, I want to take over the world through television.
00:03And everybody thought I was crazy.
00:05Issa's doing a documentary on black television.
00:08Hi, Issa!
00:09If you're telling black stories and you need to have black people create their own,
00:14it's about that. It's about legacy.
00:18I grew up where there was nobody like me on TV.
00:21It was like, okay, networks, you don't have a place for me.
00:24I'm making my own place.
00:26With Loesha, it was black people everywhere.
00:30Hair, makeup, wardrobe. It was black joy.
00:35Success looks like a place where it stops being a magical thing.
00:39That there are people of color on television.
00:44Overcoming is a journey.
00:47It's not a destination.
00:51There is a new generation of black creative figures.
00:55I need to know what I want to say.
00:57When you know what your show is and what it's about, you hold on to it for dear life.
01:02My value is in who I am and what my experiences are.
01:05It's about being seen and heard.
01:07That's really our job.
01:08To reflect the times in which we live.
01:11So that maybe we don't have to keep reliving it.
01:14Action.
01:16On television, we will be seen as we should be seen.
01:21To see black people going, oh, I can do this too?
01:24That was gold.
01:26We can create roots in a way that we can't be washed away.
01:31Let's go.
01:32Let's do this.
01:34I'm ready.
01:35I'm about to kill this.
