00:00I had just finished a long day of meetings with different HOA boards across the county
00:04and thought I'd reward myself with something simple, a swim.
00:08The neighborhood pool was practically empty except for a few kids,
00:13splashing and one woman glaring at me the moment I walked in.
00:16I didn't think much of it. People stare all the time.
00:20I laid my towel on a chair, slipped into the cool water, and finally let myself relax.
00:26But peace didn't last long.
00:28The woman, her name was Karen, as I later found out,
00:31marched over in oversized sunglasses and a scowl sharp enough to cut glass.
00:36You can't be here, she snapped. This pool is for residents only.
00:41I am a resident, I replied calmly, but she wasn't hearing it.
00:46She folded her arms and demanded proof, as if I needed to carry my deed in my swim trunks.
00:52I told her she was mistaken, but that only made her angrier.
00:56Within minutes, she was on her phone, calling the police and reporting a trespasser at the pool.
01:02I almost laughed. I knew exactly how this was about to play out, but I let it unfold.
01:08When the officers arrived, Karen rushed toward them, waving her arms dramatically.
01:13That's him. He doesn't belong here, she declared, pointing at me like she had just uncovered a criminal mastermind.
01:21The officers walked over, asking for my ID. I gave it without hesitation.
01:26After checking it, one officer raised his eyebrows and smirked.
01:30Ma'am, you might want to know who you just called us on, he said, handing her back the paperwork.
01:37Karen blinked in confusion until I explained,
01:40I'm not just a resident here. I'm the regional director overseeing every HOA in this area, including this one.
01:48Her jaw dropped.
01:50The officers tried not to laugh.
01:52Karen's face turned redder than the lifeguard's rescue float.
01:55She mumbled something about just trying to protect the neighborhood and hurried out before the embarrassment could sink in further.
02:03I stayed in the pool, enjoying the water, as if nothing happened.
02:07The kids kept splashing, the sun kept shining,
02:11and the only thing that had changed was that Karen would probably think twice before picking a fight at the pool again.
02:25The kids kept on the beachा on the beach.
02:31She went in the pool again.
02:32The kids were waiting for me to see the people of the sea who were not here.
02:35She just Petitaks and the people of the sea.
02:37And that's the big thing that we had to learn about,
02:39and the people who were not here,
02:40the kids were not here.
02:42The kids were not here.
02:45The kids were not here.
02:47They were not there.
02:50The kids were not here.
02:51They were not here.
