00:22posted an article on 15 august

00:24claiming that Gravowski purchased

00:26the flat in a skyscraper in the

00:28Alinikon Metropolitan Park in Athens,

00:30which is currently under construction,

00:32at a time when people are drowning in debt.

00:35The allegations were picked up by fringe media outlets,

00:38which also published their own articles,

00:40such as Cardista Star Acre.

00:42This website said that the flat supposedly costs

00:44between 2 and 3 million euros.

00:46The publication of the claims prompted Grovowski

00:49to take the websites to court.

00:51In official court documents,

00:53she said that she categorically denies the claims,

00:55labelling them as fake news that damages her credibility.

00:59She attacked them for accusing her of living

01:01in a parallel universe of wealth and privilege,

01:04said that the allegations had since spread through Greece and beyond,

01:08and added that they could easily be checked

01:10by looking at Greece's land registry.

01:12The subpoenas called on the websites

01:14to retract and apologise for the claims,

01:16which Voice News has done.

01:18It released a statement admitting that what it said was wrong

01:21and was not based on any evidence,

01:23and it's also taken down the original article.

01:25The Cardista article, however, is still online,

01:28and the website appears to have doubled down.

01:30It's released a statement acknowledging the subpoena

01:32and accuses her and her husband

01:34of setting up the largest criminal organisation

01:37Greece has ever known.

01:38The Prime Minister's Director of Digital Communication

01:41has since made a statement again

01:43dismissing the allegations as fake news,

01:46noting that there has recently been

01:47a significant uptick in disinformation in Greece.
