00:08The Lord spoke to me concerning good deeds.
00:11He said, show me something good that you have done.
00:14And I said, oh Lord, I have washed your dishes.
00:17I have cleaned your house.
00:19I have prepared your food.
00:20I have read your word.
00:22I have prayed for people.
00:24I have helped the poor.
00:25I have blessed people.
00:26I have encouraged people.
00:28I have loved my neighbor.
00:30Then I heard the Holy Spirit say, you did all those things to get something in return,
00:35to receive a reward, to receive an applause, to receive a pat in the back, to receive love,
00:42to receive acceptance, to receive favor.
00:46You did all those things with the right motives.
00:49And I said, no, God, it wasn't me.
00:53It was the Holy Spirit that helped me do all those things.
00:56And then he said, so why do you boast in yourself when it was I that helped you?
01:01Why do you boast in your own good works when it was I that enabled you to do that?
01:06And then I saw this vision.
01:10I saw this woman.
01:12She was carrying a bucket of water on her head.
01:14And she was going to pour the water into a big vase.
01:17And as she's going, several little children came, and each child had a little cup,
01:24and they were holding out their cups, and the woman was pouring water in their cups.
01:28And as she's doing that, the Holy Spirit said,
01:30The problem with many Christians is that when they do good, they want something in return.
02:00They want God to be in debt to them so that whenever they need something,
02:05God would be their debtor and would have to pay them back.
02:09No, God doesn't work that way.
02:12You can't cash in your good deeds like a bank account.
02:15When you do good, just do good.
02:18That's it.
02:19That's the reward.
02:21The pleasure of God is your reward.
02:24The approval of God is your reward.
02:26The joy of the Holy Spirit is your reward.
02:30Don't misunderstand it.
02:32God rewards His children.
02:34God rewards good.
02:36He rewards faith.
02:38He rewards obedience.
02:39But don't do it to get a reward.
02:42Don't do it to get an applause.
02:44Do it because it's the right thing to do.
02:47If we do good, let's do good expecting nothing in return.
02:51Let's do good because it's good.
02:53Let's do good because we love God and we want to please Him.
02:57Let's do good because it makes us happy.
