00:00I think CSIR itself has a great legacy. CSIR is one of the oldest agencies in India, in independent India.
00:09And the unique feature of CSIR, the Council of Scientific Industry Research, is that some of the labs and institutes which today form a part of CSIR actually existed before independence.
00:18Then later on became a part of it.
00:21And for you guys, I think also a matter of pride that the first ever vice president of CSIR was son of the soil, Dr. Sama Prasad Mukherjee.
00:27And this institute where we are standing, the Central Glass Ceramic Research Institute, carries the legacy of Dr. B.C. Roy, whom all of us cherish as a legendary medical professional, as teacher, scholar of international repute, who actually inaugurated this.
00:45So there is a huge legacy which is inspiring, at the same time also a challenge to live up to it.
00:50But given the kind of evolution that is happening in the current world, and the manner in which India has today become a frontline nation of the world,
00:58I think glass and ceramics is one area which was not relatively much talked about, but is making difference in almost every area.
01:06Where is the defense area, in the missiles, in the optical glasses, most of the modern warfare, which is primarily carried out through atomic energy and space technology, has important ceramic and glass component.
01:22In the healthcare, you have the implants, you have the laser glasses, you have the optical glasses.
01:27Also in some of our futuristic missions, like green hydrogen, you have the electrolyzers, in quantum missions, it has an important role.
01:36So I think it has a wide range of a very versatile material, which is constantly innovating into new generation.
01:44So this is very fascinating, and in times to come, it could also offer a very lucrative area, avenue of livelihood, start-ups.
01:54And that's why I was suggesting to the director that we need to have more and more of industry involvement,
01:59more and more of PPP model, integrated, synergized, so that we become more sustainable and keep on going to the next level successively.
02:07Sir, you are also saying that this should be market-oriented.
02:10Yes, we need to have a market linkage, industry linkage, right from the beginning, and we are open to it.
02:16Now, this government has even opened up the sector, like nuclear sector, to the private sector.
02:21So we have no skepticism between the public and private sector, and that age of silos is over now.
02:27Sir, scientists can't work with the industrialists?
02:29No, I think they have to integrate. Most of the projects are to be, the success story is defined by the integration.
