00:00Okay, you're here, you're the champion,
00:02but during this run, are you searching for an identity?
00:06Do you feel like you need an edge or?
00:10Yeah, so that's one of those things
00:12because once you reach the top,
00:15especially as a baby face, well then where do you go?
00:18You know, we had Survivor Series coming up
00:21and I think Charlotte was the champion on the other side
00:23and she was automatically made the leader of that.
00:27But Nikki was the leader of ours, you know,
00:29when I was the champion, I was like,
00:31okay, well, I'm very much not,
00:32they don't think that I'm it, you know,
00:35certainly not yet.
00:37And so I was looking, but I just didn't know,
00:39I didn't know what to do
00:40because the crowd still liked me,
00:42the crowd still loved me.
00:44And I used to always ask John Cena for advice,
00:47but I'd ask him, you know, and he's like,
00:49I don't know who you are.
00:51Yeah, he was like, who are you?
00:53Who are you?
00:53And I was like, well, you know, I'm Becky.
00:56And no, but like, I'm like, well, they know who I am.
00:59And, you know, obviously I wouldn't say this to him,
01:02but I'd be like, well, they know who I am.
01:03They're chanting my name.
01:04But he was right.
01:06Like, he was right.
01:07I didn't know who I was.
01:08Like, I didn't know, apart from being Becky,
01:11the Irish last kicker.
01:12Well, what the hell was the Irish last kicker?
01:14Because I would always get my last kick.
01:16So I didn't know, I didn't have,
01:20I didn't really have an identity.
01:22And I was searching for that.
01:23And I suppose I was the little scrappy underdog from Ireland,
01:26but it wasn't immediately establishable.
01:30And, you know, I dress in the steampunk gear,
01:34but that was really just to give me a look
01:36to stand out from the rest to try and find an identity.
01:39But I was always just trying to find an identity.
01:41But you're just not really grounded yet.
01:43Not really grounded yet.
01:44You're searching, and you're having success, but it's like, okay,
01:47but my foundation could be more solid
01:50to make even bigger and better decisions.
01:52Yes.
01:53Okay, let's get into SummerSlam,
01:56the triple threat match with you, Charlotte, and Carmella.
01:59And let's go to the tape because this is,
02:01it's all in line for you here as a performer.
02:04And you're about to make a major shift in Becky Lynch
02:07and how the world perceives her.
02:09And we're getting somewhere.
02:10We're coming into that, I know who I am thing, I think.
02:14Yes.
02:16Oh, the tap kick!
02:21Okay, you got the arm.
02:24Position.
02:24Boom, it's a vat kick.
02:28And down into the disarmer.
02:32Can she make it to the ropes?
02:35Will she make it to the ropes?
02:36She might just make all the fingernails on the ropes.
02:42She's there.
02:43Okay, the referee makes you break the hold.
02:45Here you come up.
02:48Was that the manhandle?
02:49Uh, no, that's just like a pump angle.
02:52Okay, we'll get back in the disarmer.
02:54Okay, you got it right where you want her.
02:59Modified natural selection, right?
03:01Yep.
03:01Oh, one, two, three.
03:04Charlotte Flair with the big W.
03:07With the big W.
03:08After you seemingly had it within grasp, within a, and from behind.
03:15So here we have our new world champion, and she's got the gold.
03:19And the referee making sure she's got her belt.
03:22She's happy as a clam.
03:23And look at these best friends tugging here.
03:27Yeah.
03:29Probably booed when we did that.
03:30Well.
03:32Yeah, yeah, you can hear them boo, yeah.
03:33Yeah, way to go, way to go champ, buddy.
03:38Oh, that popped.
03:44There you go.
03:46Oh, great reaction from the crowd.
03:50Good, good, good vision there.
03:52So he goes back down, you stomp her out of the ring.
03:59Good luck there.
04:00Defiant.
04:02Disgusted.
04:07Well, sling around a little bit.
04:09End of the barricade.
04:14Good facial.
04:14There you go.
04:18Bam, over the top, end of the corner.
04:26What were you thinking when that, uh, when you took a shot at her?
04:30She goes down, that crowd erupted.
04:33What were you thinking when you're feeling that?
04:34You're like, you're like, listening, like, oh, s***.
04:36Oh, this is cool.
04:37That's good.
04:38Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:40Because did you think they were going to boo you?
04:42Not for a single fricking second.
04:44Did anybody think that?
04:46There were some people in the office that thought they were going to boo me.
04:48But there was nobody, nobody, nobody else thought that I was the heel in this thing.
04:53Well, I, but I think they're feeling the same, that they had angst in the situation.
04:58I think, like, it's time for Becky to do something.
05:00Becky's got to do something.
05:02And you did.
05:02And they responded accordingly.
05:04Yeah, so, so what happened at the time was I was getting momentum, getting momentum.
05:08I was going to have, after not doing a lot for the last year, and then I was supposed
05:13to have my big singles match at SummerSlam.
05:16And people were really excited for it.
05:17People wanted to see me versus Carmella.
05:19They wanted to see the title back on me.
05:21And Charlotte ended up getting into the match.
05:24And at that time, Charlotte had so many opportunities.
05:26Nobody wanted to see her in there.
05:28But the company thought that she was going to be the baby face in this, and that by me
05:32turning on my, my friend over a championship, that I would be the bad guy.
05:38But of course, anybody who knew was like, well, you're going to be a badass who just doesn't
05:46care anymore.
05:48And you're going to come and kick crap out of people.
05:51You're going to be like, like Stone Cold, you know, for lack of a better term is what people
05:55thought, you know, and, you know, as in people.
05:58Inside the bubble, who knew, who weren't those people that thought that people would
06:02boo me.
06:03And I think somebody came up to me that the night after, and was like, well, Brooklyn's
06:09a heel crowd, so they would cheer you.
06:10But when you're going to be in Birmingham, Alabama next week, they're going to boo you.
06:14Well, we were in Birmingham, Alabama next week, and they were cheering me.
06:18So, yeah.
06:20So I think anybody who knew, knew that this was, I wasn't going to be a heel, but it was
06:25going to take me to another level.
06:27Right.
06:28And it sure did.
06:29Let's play the promo.
06:29I deserve to be standing here as the woman's champion.
06:39And since that moment was stolen from me, Charlotte Flair deserved the beating that I gave her.
06:46Because SummerSlam wasn't supposed to be about Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns or AJ Styles or Seth
06:52Rollins or Ronda Rousey.
06:54And it certainly wasn't supposed to be about Charlotte Flair.
06:58It was supposed to be about one woman, me.
07:02It was supposed to be my time.
07:05Somehow, somehow I have been made an afterthought.
07:10And you think, you think that after a few nights of praise, that's all going to change.
07:17Well, no, I don't, I don't buy it anymore.
07:19Because you're a generation of all talk, all opinions and no action.
07:24Come SummerSlam, I had had enough of the opinions and I decided to take action.
07:36Because that referee slapping the mat for the third time was like someone counting me out
07:46of a trance, I have never seen anything more clearly in my life.
07:53I knew in that moment that my so-called best friend had been holding me back.
08:01I knew, I knew in that moment that Charlotte Flair had stolen my spotlight, my opportunity for the last time.
08:11I knew in that moment that I was going to raise her hand up and rip her head off.
08:16Because this was supposed to be my time, my opportunity, my turn to be champion.
08:26And not, not because any of you decide that Becky Lynch finally deserves it.
08:33No, no, no, because I say I deserve it.
08:37Because I say that I'm the best.
08:40And there is not a woman on this roster.
08:43Or a person in this arena.
08:46Or any of you watching at home that can tell me different.
08:54Boy.
08:56Mic drop.
08:59Where'd you pull that out of?
09:03Shoot?
09:03Yeah, yeah, of course.
09:05Yeah, shoot.
09:06Yeah, years of being in the back and waiting my turn and not getting in.
09:14Constantly feeling like I was right there and then I get taken off TV.
09:19And right there and then taken off TV.
09:21And so it just, it constantly felt like that.
09:25And I didn't want to, I didn't want to go to the audience that night.
09:29But they really, they really wanted me to.
09:33But, and I said, I said to them, well, when Charlotte beat me, you all stood up and cheered
09:39and you champion.
09:39And when I said that, I could feel like, yeah, we did.
09:43We did.
09:43I'm sorry.
09:44And I felt like there's, there's no way healing on them right now is going to work.
09:49No way.
09:50I did it.
09:51I did it only a little bit.
09:52But, but I knew that it wasn't, it wasn't going to work.
09:56So you're going to have killer matches at Hell in a Cell and Evolution.
09:59Did you feel like you were in the zone there as a performer?
10:03Yes.
10:04Yeah.
10:05Yeah.
10:05It was when I stopped thinking as much about the things that were, what's the next move?
10:14And what are we doing next?
10:16And what's the next spot?
10:16And just sort of being in it and feeling it more and listening to the audience more,
10:21feeling the crowd and the energy and knowing what, um, that was, that was when things shifted
10:28a lot for me.
10:29What was the pressure then?
10:30Because you say, you say you really feel no pressure now as to, to when you were starting.
10:34Not that I feel no pressure now.
10:35Well, no pressure, you know.
10:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:37But it's, it's less, yeah.
10:38But, but was there any pressure on you at that time when you started riding that wave
10:42of steam and momentum?
10:43So at that time.
10:45Because the stakes start getting higher.
10:46Yeah.
10:46At that time there was a lot of pressure, but I was really enjoying it, you know?
10:50I was really enjoying, I was feeling the crowd and the crowd were there behind me and there
10:55was lots of, we want Becky chants throughout, throughout the show.
10:59So when I went out there, I was, you know, I was in my zone.
11:02I had a lot of swagger.
11:03I was really feeling that, really enjoying every second of it.
