00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking over the essential facts and trivia you should
00:12be aware of before Marvel's What If? debuts with its third and final season.
00:22Number 10. Killmonger is alive and kicking.
00:25The mercenary forever fueled by his desire to liberate Black people from oppression across the
00:30world, yet will kill whoever stands in his way, Killmonger remains one of the most realistic
00:36yet brutal villains the MCU has ever given us, which was further showcased when he succeeded
00:41in taking over Wakanda for himself in his own What If? episode.
00:44The cure is power, and now I have it.
00:47Because you stole it, power and hand can be a very volatile force, Kazan.
00:53While it might have been easy to lose sight of during the chaos during season 2's finale,
00:58Killmonger was, in order, freed from Strange Supreme's prison, stripped of the power of
01:03the Infinity Stones, and sent back to his own reality.
01:06We'll need that Infinity Armor if we're going to stand a chance against Strange.
01:14Which means he remains a threat to his world, and could potentially make a return in season 3.
01:20Number 9. Zombies.
01:22Be careful, Dad.
01:23Yeah, I know.
01:24Zombies are pretty universal.
01:26Whether you're an old-school comic fan or were first exposed to them back in season 1,
01:30Marvel Zombies is a property that will likely always find a way to claw its way out of its
01:35grave and back into the mainstream.
01:36I think you've had enough, Cap.
01:38While it's still getting its own animated spin-off, which we're more than a little hyped for,
01:50don't be surprised if the undead collective of superheroes makes another appearance in season 3.
01:56You can't just tease us with zombie Thanos and leave it at that.
01:59At the very least, give us more talking head Scott Lang.
02:02The guy deserves something after Quantum Mania.
02:05What I wouldn't give to get chewed out by that old grump one last time.
02:08I did it again!
02:09Zombie pun.
02:10Number 8. X-Men Debut.
02:13For years now, we have had hints and easter eggs galore of mutants existing within the MCU.
02:18How to control our mutant powers for the benefit of mankind.
02:24Then, along came Deadpool and Wolverine to blow the doors wide open,
02:28with the two universes now irreparably joined together.
02:32Following the official trailer,
02:34What If Season 3 seems to be taking further measures to blend their worlds together
02:38by having iconic X-Men Storm take on Thor's role of God of Thunder.
02:42Maybe it's time that we called in some help?
02:44Adding to the awesomeness is that she'll be voiced by Alison Seeley-Smith,
02:57who flawlessly portrayed the character in both X-Men The Animated Series and X-Men 97.
03:03We'll never get tired of seeing this goddess ride the lightning.
03:06Surrender the boy, or face my fury!
03:11Number 7. Nova Corps Nebula.
03:13Someone did this to him.
03:18But the question is...
03:21Who?
03:26Nebula has had a few different incarnations over the course of What If's tenure,
03:30but arguably her best was the one where she found herself being recruited into Xandar's elite squadron.
03:36You swore an oath to defend Xandar.
03:39Very much a neo-noir take on the character.
03:42This version of Nebula is no-nonsense, willing to bend the rules, but always pursuing justice.
03:48Throughout her investigation to solve a murder, she unveiled a planet-wide conspiracy
03:52and demonstrated her leadership qualities all within what felt like one night.
03:57It's a reimagining that fits the character so well, we're praying for a second appearance.
04:02Seek the light, be the light, never stray from its path.
04:06The moment you told me to solve this by any means necessary, I knew you'd broken our oath.
04:12Number 6. The New Avengers.
04:15One of the best parts of What If? has been how they've allowed background characters to redefine themselves and take the spotlight,
04:21often for the better.
04:22Case in point, this alternative gathering of the Avengers set decades before the roster we've all come to know and love.
04:33In order to stop a rampaging Peter Quill now infused with Ego's celestial abilities,
04:38it falls to Hank Pym's Ant-Man, Thor, Goliath, Bucky Barnes, Wendy Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell,
04:45and King T'Chaka's Black Panther to overcome the threat.
04:48Is it really you?
04:51If you are referring to your doom, then yes.
04:54Bummer. I thought you were the dude from Van Halen.
04:59They worked shockingly well as a team, creating a new lineup we would be delighted to see make a reappearance,
05:05especially now that they've recruited a god-tier quill to their ranks.
05:09Actually, old man, my mom says I'm a Star Lord.
05:14Peter!
05:17Number 5. Hela Gone Good.
05:19I cast you out!
05:21No! No!
05:25One of the biggest surprises of Season 2 was what they did with the infamous Goddess of Death.
05:30Given her bloody history and insidious wish to take revenge on Asgard,
05:33a redemption arc wasn't on our bingo card.
05:37I am Jai Yi.
05:38I speak for the Elder Council of Ta Lo.
05:41I am Hela.
05:42We know who you are.
05:44Your compatriot filled us in.
05:46But in a brilliant move, they took Hela out of the Norse realm and into the mystical haven of Ta Lo.
05:51It's there she's given the Shang-Chi treatment, learns inner peace,
05:55and becomes a capable warrior who now only seeks to protect the Nine Realms.
05:59It's like you said, no god should have dominion over death who has so little appreciation for life.
06:10Don't get us wrong, she still has sass for days,
06:13but it's a believable heel turn,
06:15and one dripping with potential now that she's one of the strongest heroes in the multiverse.
06:20Number 4. Into the Multiverse Again.
06:23Captain Peggy Carter is without a doubt one of the biggest standouts from What If,
06:40and has become a beloved character in her own right.
06:43Swapping the espionage for a vibranium shield,
06:46she's gone on to showcase her skills and heroism multiple times,
06:49to the point where she set herself apart from Steve Rogers,
06:52and far beyond a gender-swapped copycat.
06:55I take it this means I'm not dead.
06:58Following Season 2's finale,
07:00The Watcher agrees to take Peggy home,
07:02but she decides she'd rather take the scenic route.
07:05Which, of course, leaves the possibilities wide open
07:08for an infinite number of universes for her to hop between along the way.
07:12Perhaps we could take the scenic route home.
07:15Surely there's something worth seeing along the way.
07:18Oh, Captain.
07:21Just you watch.
07:28Number 3. Return of the Hydra Stomper
07:31Steve!
07:32Hey, Peggy. Now you owe me one.
07:35It seemed as if Peggy and Steve's romance was strong enough to outlast all realities,
07:40since Season 1 ended with her discovering the Hydra Stomper in a container,
07:44which apparently still contained Steve inside.
07:47The Hydra Stomper?
07:49Yeah.
07:51And there's someone inside.
07:53Steve.
07:55Unfortunately for them,
07:57Season 2 revealed that Steve had since been brainwashed by the assassins of the Red Room,
08:02and with every activation, his life diminished.
08:05Mission accomplished, ma'am.
08:08What did you do to him?
08:10Oh, he's happier this way.
08:11No regret, no loss.
08:14Only me and his mission.
08:16Following a final sacrifice.
08:18It's unclear if this version of Steve Rogers is gone for good or still out there somewhere.
08:22We're just hoping the two lovebirds get a happy ending.
08:26Number 2.
08:26Kahori
08:27Out of all the surprises Season 2 threw our way,
08:30none matched the introduction of Kahori.
08:33Who is Kahori, you may ask?
08:35She's an original character, purposely created for What If.
08:39As a young Mohawk woman who came into contact with the Tesseract,
08:42Kahori soon developed powers matching that of the Space Stone,
08:45like super speed, strength, and cosmic energy manipulation.
08:48She and her people were able to defeat the invading Conquistadors and essentially rewrite history,
09:03all before being recruited by Strange Supreme.
09:11While it seems like such an out-of-left-field move,
09:14Kahori's story and unique background were so captivating
09:17that she's become an MCU icon in her own right,
09:20practically a deuteragonist.
09:22My name is Kahori, and I think we can help each other.

09:41Number 1.
09:42The Death of Strange Supreme
09:44What If's high point remains the downfall of this alternative version of Dr. Strange,
09:49whose desire to save his beloved Christine from an apparently inescapable death
09:53led him to tear his universe asunder.
09:55Stephen?
09:59What did you do?
10:02No, no, no, no, no.
10:06Eventually paying for his actions by acting as a guard dog
10:09for the likes of Killmonger and Arnim Zola.
10:11That is, until his demons got the better of him.
10:14Strange isn't trying to save universes.
10:17He's trying to resurrect his universe.
10:19The one he destroyed.
10:20I will not let you stop me.
10:23In a bid to restore his universe,
10:25Strange Supreme was willing to purge the lives of countless villains
10:28and variants from across the multiverse,
10:31only to eventually be stopped by Captain Carter and Kahori.
10:34It was curtains for the misguided doctor,
10:36though at least his final act of redemption brought back his universe.
10:40You saw the good in our friend.
10:43And in the end, it was that part of him,
10:46even if only for a brief moment,
10:49that conquered his demons and saved his world.
