00:00I was constantly exercising, I was constantly thinking about food and I didn't really think
00:18that that was a problem. So I started to put my self-worth in numbers on the scale. I started
00:25to value myself on how little I'd eaten, how much I'd exercised, how long I'd gone without eating.
00:42The barrier that men face when it comes to reaching out is being seen as weak or vulnerable
00:47which then hinders their ability to seek support.
00:55People with mental health issues, they do, everybody suffers stigma for having a mental
01:04health condition. But this stigma is double among men with eating disorders.
01:08They're much more likely to develop bulimia and to vomit. They'll describe more isolation.
01:14They'll often undertake a lot more exercise and they'll often feel a lot more paranoid.
01:19And all of this adds up to a sense of emasculation. Men describe that they no longer feel.
01:25like they're male. So there's a huge amount of psychiatric as well as physical co-morbidity
01:30that contributes toward the success of mortality.
01:38There aren't any specific for men and we do need them because there are certain groups
01:42of men that are at particularly high risk. So males who are non-binary, trans people are
01:48particularly high risk. And in America and elsewhere, black males are more likely to be at risk than
01:56white males.
01:56As you get to a level where you kind of feel that you can start to realize that there is a problem,
02:11then obviously talking to a healthcare professional is the gold standard because they are there,
02:19they are trained in this, they are the ones that need to know. And I think it's really important to
02:23always going to say, you are absolutely not alone.
