00:00Hello, how are you? I'm Jane Lisbon, absolute pleasure to meet you. Thank you Mr. President.
00:10Mr. President, thank you so much for joining us.
00:13This was not my first call, actually.
00:16It was my, I don't know, fifth or sixth call for a dialogue, for an open conversation.
00:24But what was the difference this time? I offered something that I saw because they reacted swiftly, but in a way nervously.
00:37I don't know why. I offered them even an open TV debate.
00:42They can pick the premise, they can pick the studio. I'm gonna, I'll be able to go wherever they say.
00:50People are going more and more against protesters. People are fed up with blockades.
00:57People are fed up with violence that was happening in particular in the recent weeks.
01:04The protesters are now calling for a snap election. Is there going to be one?
01:09Is this something that you think could move things forward?
01:12We wanted to fulfill all their requirements, all their requests, all their demands.
01:17And I was referring to them, saying, okay, we are doing it, we are doing that, we did that.
01:23Are you happy with that?
01:24They were saying, no, we continue with this. Now this is bigger than us, bigger than you.
01:29Okay.
01:30I said then, okay, you want to go for a referendum against myself, I'm ready to go within two days.
01:36They were saying, no, that's a treason, that's a betrayal.
01:40If someone accepts it, we don't go, we are not politicians, we don't need politics.
01:45After that, I was offering elections. They were also saying the same.
01:50After six months, when we actually shifted ourselves into a more regular mode,
01:57trying to fulfill our targets, economic targets, trying to fulfill all our obligations regarding...
02:06Till I leave the place, Serbia will remain very firmly on EU path, committed and dedicated to that path,
02:13conducting and implementing necessary reforms.
02:17But there are some other things that we can do together, which is unique market, which is a region without real frontiers,
02:27without real borders, without any obstacles for trading or flowing capital, people, whatever.
02:35This is something that we need to accomplish before we get closer to EU.
02:42There are a lot of stuff to be done for us and I'm very much aware of that.
02:46You've said that you've no doubts it has a European future.
02:50Yes.
02:51Can I ask you to give a direct message, one to the Serbian people and one to the European audiences?
02:57You know, what will Serbia win from joining? What will the EU gain from you being part of the EU?
03:05I know thousands of things which we are going to gain joining the EU.
03:14And it's not only economy. Politically, I think that Serbia can get many things.
03:22can get long-term stability, safety and security as well, can guarantee to its people peace for many decades,
03:34which is of an utmost importance, and also observance and respect of basic democratic and human rights.
