00:19who the president led in remembering in today's solemn event.

00:30In the celebration of National Heroes Day,
00:36President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr. honored the heroes who sacrificed their lives
00:40so that the country could attain independence.
00:43He also reminded that we should not forget the heroes whose names were not written in the pages of history,
00:48but became the spark of the struggle for freedom.
00:50The president stressed that Filipinos of the present generation
00:53who continue to serve despite life's challenges also deserve to be recognized
00:58as they showed the true spirit of heroism.
01:01Kiniikilala rin natin ang mga Pilipinong tapat na naglilingkod,
01:06nagmamalasakit at nagmamahal sa ating bansa.
01:09Sila ang nagsisilbing paalala sa ating lahat
01:13na ang kabayanihan ay nananalaytay pa rin sa ugat ng bawat sa atin.
01:20Likas na sa Pilipino ang pagiging tapat,
01:24ang paglilingkod at pakikipagkapwa.
01:26Nakikita natin ito sa ating mga magsasaka,
01:29mga mangingisda, mga guro, healthcare worker,
01:32ating mga manggagawa.
01:34Ang kanilang araw-araw na paglilingkod sa kabila ng mga hamon
01:38ay patunay na buhay pa rin ang diwa ng kabayanihan.
01:42The president's message also touched on the issue of corruption and abuse of power.
01:47This came in the wake of the controversy over field flood control projects.
01:51According to the president,
01:52This should not be taken lightly,
01:54stressing that corruption and abuse of power are enemies of freedom.
01:58Hindi lang pagpapalakas ng ating depensa
02:00ang kailangan natin tutukan upang maaalagaan ating kalayaan.
02:05Kailangan din natin labanan ang banta ng katiwalian
02:08at pang-aabuso sa kamangyarihan ng ating lipunan.
02:13Dahil hindi lamang salapi ang kanilang ninanakaw,
02:16kundi pati ang kalusugan, pangarap, at kinabukasan ng mga susunod na henerasyon na Pilipino.
02:23Kaya't hindi natin dapat ipagwalang bahala ang maliliit na panlilinlang
02:29sapagkat kung paulit-ulit, ito'y pinapalampas natin.
02:35Unti-unti nitong sinisira ang ating lipunan nang hindi natin namamalayan.
02:40The chief executive assured that all those involved in irregularities will be held accountable.
02:45Pananagutin namin ang lahat ng sangkot sa anomaliyan at katiwalian.
02:52Ilalabas natin ang buo at pawang katotohanan
02:56at titiyakin natin hindi na mauulit ang kawalan ng respeto at malasakit sa taong bayan.
03:03Kaya't magtulong-tulong tayo upang labanan ng korupsyon,
03:06labanan ng pag-aabuso sa tungkulin, labanan ang pagyura sa ating karapatan.
03:11The president meanwhile urged the youth to keep their awareness alive,
03:15stressing that they must be guided to become more critical of society's challenges.
