During a pattas distribution event in Thiruvottiyur, DMK MLA Shankar gave a speech criticizing actor Vijay. Shankar questioned what Vijay, who has just entered politics, knows about the DMK party, stating that Vijay is still thinking about "roaming with Trisha or Keerthy Suresh." He also claimed that Vijay, who couldn't take care of his own father, mother, or wife, wouldn't be able to protect the people who believe in him.

Shankar reminded Vijay that he had forgotten the time he stood with his father, with his hands folded, at Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence, despite calling her "aunty." Shankar added that if the current Chief Minister M.K. Stalin were like Jayalalithaa, he would have made Vijay "run by stripping his clothes." However, he noted that because the Chief Minister has a forgiving nature, he didn't make a big deal out of Vijay's remark. Shankar concluded his speech by venting his anger and frustration over Vijay's "uncle" comment.

அவரை நம்பி சென்றால் நடுத்தெருவில் தான் நிற்க வேண்டும். அங்கிள் என்று கூறிய விஜய் தனது தந்தையுடன் ஜெயலலிதாவின் போயஸ் கார்டனில் கைகட்டி நின்று கொண்டிருந்ததை மறந்து விட்டார். ஜெயலலிதா போல் தற்போதைய முதல்வர் மு க ஸ்டாலின் இருந்திருந்தால் விஜயின் துணியை உருவி ஓட விட்டிருப்பார். ஆனால் எதையும் மறக்கும் குணம் கொண்டவர் முதல்வர் என்பதால் இதையெல்லாம் பெரிதாக கண்டு கொள்ளவில்லை என விஜய் அங்கிள் என்று பேசியதற்கு தனது ஆத்திரத்தையும் ஆதங்கத்தையும் கொட்டி தீர்த்தார்.
