00:00we're only a week away from the illumination switch on so how are you feeling about being

00:11the headline performer for that yeah i feel good i feel like i'm proud to be doing it you know it's

00:18such a big event and it's it's something that's really part of of um you know british culture

00:26isn't it i mean when you think of illumination you think you know it you could just picture it you

00:32can picture the big will you can picture it all and i've seen over the years all the amazing acts

00:36that have been a part of it you know it's like yeah i i didn't really know the magnitude of it

00:42really until i googled it looked of how many years it's been going for so yeah i'm really proud really

00:48proud that the organizers and the people involved um have looked looked at me as a as a candidate

00:54and someone that they want to do so yeah i'm very proud and you've got the responsibility of

01:00actually switching on the lights as well are you prepared for that i'm hoping it's very straightforward

01:06i'm hoping there's no you know password i need or anything i need to do i hope it's just a very

01:12simple press of the button done and have you performed in blackpool before yeah yeah many times

01:20yeah many times um don't ask me where now but i've definitely done a few gigs around that area

01:25um over the years so i'm just really tough to be coming back great great part of the world so look

01:31forward to it the people are lovely up there so yeah it'll be great i actually saw that you were

01:37at an illumination switch on back in 2010 can you remember that i do because um robbie was headlining

01:44that day and um i was just really buzzing that robbie was going to be there and i managed to catch

01:51up with him i hadn't seen him for a long long time so i had a good catch up with rob and i remember seeing

01:57feel the power taylor was was playing darts there like it was pretty surreal really meeting all these

02:03big celebrities and big stars and um yeah it was a great night really really good so how does it feel

02:11to return 15 years later as the main man himself well yeah it feels just a bit surreal to be honest

02:19and like i said i looked on the list and i saw i mean huge artists that have come out come over from

02:27the amer from america to british artists like it's had it all really and not just singers and

02:33performers you've had like actors you've had all different types of people turn it on so

02:37for me i'm there obviously turning the lights on but i'm also there you know performing at the same

02:42time so i'm i'm looking forward to entertaining everyone you know to be fair i'm in blackpool

02:49every day and people don't realize it madam two swords my wax work is there 24 7 so um you know

02:57there is a real love for blackpool and i'm really proud that you know i'm at my wax work is up there

03:02every single day for getting some love for people watching and reading this at home why should they

03:08come along on the night to see ollie merz perform because if they haven't come before they're about

03:15to see one of the best performers in the country i'm joking um no uh i just honestly i just love

03:22entertaining people i love enjoying people's i love seeing people having a good time and i think

03:27my music is fun my music is not serious it's just a good laugh good fun um and i think you're at least

03:35know one of my songs which is cool and um yeah that's all i want to do is have a good time and

03:40get people dancing get people singing and it's a chance for people to if you've had a stressful week

03:46or even if you've had a stressful summer you've had a stressful day come and see me for an hour and a

03:52half or come see me top loader and louisa and just relax and have a great night and forget about

03:57all your worries for a few hours are you expecting the people of blackpool to be more than up for

04:02some fun with you they better be yeah they better be up for some fun in blackpool but i know they

04:07are it's a great town great city people always up for it so yeah looking forward to it
