Dr Dheeraj Sharma IIM Rohtak Director, addressed the nation on DD News during the 70th Constitution Day. He spoke about equal rights, inclusivity, and the vision of building a progressive India rooted in justice and fairness.
00:00So India is now, Professor Sharma, following the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat.
00:05Does that spirit represent the ideals of the Constitution?
00:09I think again, we've made some progress.
00:13More so recently, we've made some progress.
00:17Because Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat, in my view, enshrines two very important principles.
00:24Principle of equity and principle of excellence.
00:30Now, equity stems from, again, something enshrined in the Constitution, which is Uniform Civil Code.
00:39We have really not been able to implement Uniform Civil Code, so we have a long way to go there.
00:45Excellence, I believe, again, while we have continuously strived to be meritorious in our engagements and meritorious in our processes,
00:56we have, in 70, 75 years, fallen short of meritoriousness in businesses.
01:05As you can see, there are so many past instances where people have flawed in the way they conducted business in terms of governance, so on and so forth.
01:15So Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat, in my view, must come from not just rights for minorities.
01:24It's rights for everybody.
01:26And Shresth Bharat can also not just come from excellence in some small islands and silos.
