00:29they just tell you, you know, you're crazy.

00:44You know, sand grating your feet until they bleed, your back getting blisters the size of a plate.
00:49Oh, but actually I don't feel very good.
00:52Falling down in the sand with exhaustion.
00:56We're just going uphill, continuously.
00:58I'm very close to my pain barrier.
01:01Why would you want to crucify yourself?
01:08I was going up the escalator on the tube.
01:10And I got to the top of the escalator and I was like, you know, out of breath.
01:14And I was like, man, I'm 30 years old.
01:16I've been an athlete my whole life. I can't even have a breath.
01:19And then I just started taking up running.
01:21I say to my kids, you know, whatever it is you want in life, have a passion.
01:25I don't care what it is, but have a passion for something.
01:28I think it's for me, I'm doing it to prove to myself that I can do these things, that I can finish them, that I have got the strength of mind, the strength of character.
01:37How far can I push myself without killing myself?
01:40I've had to work really hard to get here, push through injuries, push through financial barriers.
01:46I certainly realise that I am a control freak.
01:49It's hard to let go, being so on the ball.
01:53I was in Iraq and then over the course of a year my whole world sort of turned upside down.
01:58The whole intention of doing four deserts in a year, it was a part of my grieving process.
02:03The only thing I know how to do is put one leg in front of the other.
02:07It doesn't go away. It does not go away the feeling of, am I going to get through this?

02:24I think man innately just seeks to see how much further can we push the envelope.
