00:13:27Some old friends of my father, it seems.
00:13:31They obviously spoke to Doc before coming here.
00:13:35Did you happen to tell him that we were going to be here?
00:13:38Things have been strained between us lately.
00:13:40It's not my fault.
00:13:44Of course.
00:13:46You know, I thought it would be a good idea to come here with you and straighten some things out.
00:13:51No, it's not.
00:13:53I'm serious.
00:13:55You know, I...
00:13:57I thought we were good.
00:14:00And then you leave school.
00:14:03You leave me.
00:14:04No calls, some cryptic emails.
00:14:07I mean, are you kidding me?
00:14:08And now, here we are, back at it again, like nothing's changed.
00:14:16And we could have gone somewhere else.
00:14:18We could have gone anywhere.
00:14:20Emma.
00:14:20I fucked up.
00:14:24I wanted to be here with you.
00:14:27That's all.
00:14:28So they're here.
00:14:32We'll figure it out.
00:14:34We have time.
00:14:36I promise.
00:14:37It'll be fine, okay?
00:14:42Okay.
00:14:45I do love you, though.
00:14:50I love you, too.
00:14:51I do love you, too.
00:15:09I love you.
00:15:10and here comes this three-year-old kid who wouldn't eat anything we made
00:15:24just scarfing down these oysters i think i puked my brains out you like them no oysters tonight
00:15:34fine for old time's sake
00:15:40yeah um i think i liked them more when i didn't know any better
00:15:53i'm not even going to attempt that not for me it's an acquired taste yeah my idea of
00:16:04the beach is a book and a blanket not shellfish what are you studying at school emily organic
00:16:11chemistry i'm finishing up my third year five more weeks chemistry that's that's an ambitious
00:16:16major yeah yeah i um i did it as a bit of a challenge to myself i figured i could study
00:16:23anything after four years of chemistry you're thinking about grad school yeah i want to study
00:16:29astrobiology at the university of washington they have a great program what is that life
00:16:35on other planets kind of um it actually has more to do with life on this planet how organisms
00:16:43can adapt to extreme environments that we could not even survive so it's the point where chemistry
00:16:50becomes biology somewhere at the bottom of the ocean we think
00:16:54life is so fragile we're the right combination of elements the right temperature the right distance
00:17:09from the sun and and this measure of time spent developing and changing billions of years
00:17:19and one thing slightly often we would be nothing dust or gas or something
00:17:27over my head randall how'd you end up with someone so smart lucky i guess randall what are you studying at college
00:17:46um well i'm not really there now oh yeah yeah i just
00:17:54i'd had it with school i needed to get away no doc probably wasn't thrilled with that
00:18:03no no he was not things are a little different now with college like they're farming graduates
00:18:13i didn't want my school offered what the rest of my life was gonna be i mean it's like
00:18:20what am i learning what's the point of an education just to to get a job i mean there has to be something
00:18:28else right what's underneath all of this the marriage kids taxes bills watching television elections
00:18:36sports on sunday careful i coach a state champion baseball team
00:18:41no offense i just don't know i'm figuring it out for me well it's complicated
00:18:50i just wouldn't write off everyone who thinks differently than you do
00:18:55you should be thankful that you have the time to do whatever you want
00:19:00it it um it is nice to hear it that spirit
00:19:14we are so fortunate to be here with you it's just it's just so nice
00:19:28well uh does anyone need a refill yes please
00:19:42uh oh bad news are we out
00:19:50that bottle of chardonnay half empty doc doesn't have any uh bottles uh stashed away anywhere i could use a little whiskey
00:20:02uh no nothing's open this time of night and we shouldn't be driving anyway
00:20:08there is something else
00:20:20mr churner mitch please
00:20:22mitch jane
00:20:24are you familiar with edibles
00:20:28randall
00:20:30times being what they are
00:20:32legalization and all
00:20:34i don't think this is appropriate
00:20:36well it's only polite to share
00:20:40edible marijuana
00:20:42is that what you mean
00:20:44are you
00:20:48are you fucking insane
00:20:50what i got them out of dispensary before i picked you up
00:20:52they even said that most of them got to us
00:20:54are like 50 60 years old
00:20:56this is a really bad idea really
00:20:58what's he gonna do
00:21:00tell my dad
00:21:02probably do isn't good
00:21:04i think it's a good idea
00:21:06they already age
00:21:08we're not good to drive
00:21:10how strong are they
00:21:12they'll be fine
00:21:14randall
00:21:16do we cut it
00:21:18in quarters
00:21:20so wait
00:21:32tell me about this
00:21:34astrobiology
00:21:36well it's like the origins of life on earth
00:21:40and as we study the basic building blocks of life on other planets it helps us with our origins
00:21:46finding any evidence of water is a good start
00:21:48didn't they just find water on mars
00:21:50uh yeah
00:21:52kind of
00:21:53very recently
00:21:55it's like
00:21:56there were these very basic elements that were present at the earliest stages of the planet
00:22:02and the heat
00:22:04from the core of the earth
00:22:06it kept churning these elements for millions and millions of years
00:22:10of years
00:22:12evaporating
00:22:13harving
00:22:14so
00:22:15constantly
00:22:17the atmosphere is like
00:22:21steam
00:22:22from water hitting a hot rock
00:22:25but it's like
00:22:26something foreign
00:22:28had to enter the environment
00:22:30for nucleic acids to form
00:22:32that
00:22:34initial drop
00:22:36where did it come from
00:22:38and then it started reacting
00:22:40replicating
00:22:41into what
00:22:42would become
00:22:43the bottom of the ocean
00:22:59soft water
00:23:00water
00:23:07i'm getting
00:23:08my diverse certification
00:23:10so i can
00:23:11go on deep sea studies
00:23:14in some of the most inhospitable places on the planet
00:23:19if we can find organisms
00:23:22that could live in such harsh conditions here
00:23:25like a
00:23:26alien planet
00:23:29i mean
00:23:33i guess
00:23:36all other planets are
00:23:38too harsh for life
00:23:39as we know it
00:23:41we are the exception
00:23:45for delicate
00:23:46what would it have looked like
00:23:53what
00:23:55our planet
00:23:57the surface back then
00:24:00i don't know
00:24:07swirling gases
00:24:12unstable
00:24:13boiling
00:24:18chaos
00:24:43i know
00:24:46this year
00:24:49totally
00:24:51i remember
00:24:53it means
00:24:55it all
00:24:57contained
00:25:01that was
00:25:03moving
00:25:04here
00:25:06in
00:25:07love
00:25:08obviously
00:25:09it
00:25:10happened
00:25:41It's so beautiful.
00:25:49Randall, have you seen this out here before?
00:25:53No way.
00:25:56It's super trippy.
00:26:05It's all over.
00:26:09It's in the trees.
00:26:11Windswept microbes of some kind.
00:26:20Something in the air.
00:26:23Usually it's in the water.
00:26:26Oh, I want to see.
00:26:29You think you should?
00:26:31Oh, please, Mitchell.
00:26:33I'm fine.
00:26:34You're having such a good time.
00:26:36Fine.
00:26:37Fine.
00:26:44I think I need a new song.
00:26:52I'm sorry.
00:26:53I should have asked.
00:26:54With all your science.
00:26:59I know.
00:27:00I know it's stupid.
00:27:02I'll say.
00:27:04Randall hates you, too.
00:27:09I want to be a scientist, but...
00:27:11You still do, dumb chef?
00:27:31You okay, Miss Turner?
00:27:33Hmm?
00:27:34You feeling it?
00:27:35Oh, I'm just having so much fun.
00:27:40That music sounded...
00:27:43alive.
00:27:45Yeah?
00:27:46That's awesome.
00:27:47It's going to be amazing outside.
00:28:04You kids today, how you see the world...
00:28:08it's so different.
00:28:12All the information out there, it's...
00:28:15scary.
00:28:18No, don't...
00:28:19don't be scared.
00:28:20It...
00:28:21the doors that could be open
00:28:24because of that information,
00:28:26it should...
00:28:27it should make life
00:28:30more beautiful.
00:28:33We're learning so much
00:28:35so fast.
00:28:36I think that's why I...
00:28:40put my head down
00:28:42and focus on our baseball team.
00:28:48It kind of smells out here.
00:28:51You smell that?
00:28:55Yeah, I do.
00:28:58I wonder if sewage is backed up.
00:29:02I felt a little lightheaded before.
00:29:06Have you seen my wife?
00:29:14Um...
00:29:15No, I haven't.
00:29:21She...
00:29:21She's very...
00:29:23I have to look out for her.
00:29:28Yeah.
00:29:28I really...
00:29:29I really shouldn't have let her do this.
00:29:32Okay.
00:30:38Mitchell!
00:30:46Randall, get up.
00:30:48It's fine.
00:30:50It's not fine.
00:30:51Turn the music down.
00:30:52Randall, where did Jane go?
00:30:55Outside, I think.
00:30:57I need to find her.
00:30:59She went out the front door.
00:31:04Jane!
00:31:05It smells.
00:31:13This stuff's really strong.
00:31:14I need to find her.
00:31:44I think they're really fucked up.
00:31:50Who?
00:31:53What do you think?
00:32:00This form is insane.
00:32:03You smell that?
00:32:20What?
00:32:21What?
00:32:23What?
00:32:31I've seen some spots.
00:32:36Relax.
00:32:40Jesus.
00:32:40I'm a puber.
00:32:42I'm a puber.

00:33:00I feel good.
00:33:03No, no, no.
00:37:35It's beautiful, though.
00:37:38The fog's gone away.
00:37:44Should we go to the beach?
00:37:45Oh, okay.
00:37:50I'm still a little fucked up.
00:37:53Yeah.
00:37:54They were a mess.
00:38:01They were a mess.
00:38:02Really?
00:38:03Yeah.
00:38:04She was throwing up.
00:38:07You fell asleep.
00:38:08You fell asleep.
00:38:09I didn't think it's so messed up.
00:38:14I thought they'd enjoy it.
00:38:16Really.
00:38:17Well, I'm glad I brought my suit.
00:38:22I think she brought my suit.
00:38:23So, you got me soon.
00:38:24She brought my suit.
00:38:31Mr. Turner, how are you today?
00:38:46You want some coffee?
00:38:53Are you okay?
