00:00Sorry.
00:01That's a bit extreme.
00:02I know exactly.
00:03That's a bit much.
00:04Yeah, yeah.
00:05Are you that guy?
00:06Yeah, yeah, at a certain point.
00:07You're nodding.
00:08Yes, at a certain point, you are.
00:11Hello, sir.
00:12Thank you so much for your time.
00:13I appreciate you.
00:14Absolutely.
00:15Hey, happy birthday for the other day.
00:17You're a fellow 90s kid.
00:18Yeah, yeah.
00:19You are as well?
00:20Birthday last month, too.
00:2134.
00:22Oh, congratulations.
00:2334.
00:24We're the same age.
00:25Happy birthday.
00:26Do we wear our 90s kid badge with pride?
00:27Did it feel wonderful to step back in time to this familiar world with New York?
00:32Was it familiar to you at all?
00:33Yeah, man.
00:34I mean, the thing with it, for me, I was getting flashbacks of movies that I saw when I was
00:40that age, you know, like watching Home Alone and seeing the streets of New York.
00:46So I had a nostalgia getting to actually film there, for sure.
00:50I loved seeing the behind the scenes footage of you and Zoey with your 90s handheld cams
00:55and stuff on sets.
00:56Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:57My favorite one being when, you know, the scene where Hank is dancing on the ball table.
00:59Yeah, yeah.
01:00Have you ever had a comparable minute at a party where you're like the legend?
01:04Everyone's cheering you.
01:05You're doing a dance move.
01:06I don't think so.
01:07I don't think.
01:08I mean, maybe.
01:09But I probably don't remember those moments.
01:12You know, when you're that far gone, I probably don't remember.
01:14Oh, everything happens.
01:15Yeah, yeah.
01:16Are you that guy?
01:17No, let's say yes.
01:18Yeah, yeah.
01:19At a certain point, you're nodding.
01:20Yes, at a certain point, you are.
01:21I'm a legend.
01:22Yeah, yeah.
01:23Are you going to find out?
01:24I just called the Tonic the Daniel Day-Lewis of Cats.
01:28Is that too much?
01:29Sorry.
01:30That's a bit extreme.
01:31I know.
01:32That's a bit much.
01:33You were just holding a microphone?
01:35Sorry.
01:36Finally, for me, how great is this person next to you, Zoey?
01:39She's fantastic.
01:40She's so talented, man.
01:41She's so, so talented.
01:42What did you learn about during choosing?
01:44What I learned about her, that she's really funny.
01:47I knew she was a great director because of Blink twice, but she's a really great writer.
01:53The way she would restructure scenes and the ideas that she had were amazing.
01:57Super.
01:58Thank you so much for your time.
01:59Appreciate it, man.
02:00Cheers.
02:01See you next time.
02:02Nice to see you.
02:03Hey, nice to see you.
02:04I bet you're a man who has some good stories from New York in the 1990s.
02:08However, I'll make you tell them.
02:09Yeah, okay.
02:10Good idea.
02:11What I do want to know is what was so special about that place and that time, and what did you
02:14try and encapsulate from that into the film?
02:17No insult to London, but the 90s in New York was peak humanity.
02:22It was a great place to be alive.
02:25And I feel the FOMO people have for that era is what will hopefully draw them to come see
02:30the movie in the theaters because it's like Y2K was the biggest threat facing humanity.
02:35Our president was in trouble for an extramarital affair.
02:41The Soviet Union had collapsed.
02:43There was real no enemies to New Yorkers except for maybe Boston Red Sox.
02:48It was like a great time to like be alive and the new millennium was coming in and there
02:53was just a lot of hope.
02:54So I feel like if there are time travelers deep in the future at some point, they're going
02:59to go to the 1990s Lower East Side to get a beer.
03:02No one's ever answered that for a time machine question, have they?
03:05Yeah.
03:06I know that you and Austin met on kind of the campaign trail during, you know, his Elvis,
03:10you're the whale time.
03:11What was it about that meeting for you two during that period, which was a bonding experience
03:15for the two of you during the campaign trail?
03:17Well, we only met one time even though Austin was Brendan Fraser's main competition.
03:23I was nervous about Austin, but it worked out really well.
03:28It was, we met that one time, we connected.
03:30I think we might have, I don't know if we traded numbers.
03:33Sure.
03:34But we might have traded numbers and I don't know if we, I guess we did because we stayed
03:38in touch.
03:39I know that you cast, I saw an interview today where he said you just cast her by text.
03:43Easiest casting in the world.
03:45Is that as real as it was?
03:46No, no.
03:47I met with her first.
03:48Okay.
03:49To be fair.
03:50And then she read the script, she liked it.
03:51And then I was like, hey, what's up?
03:53Excuse me.
03:54I'm sorry.
03:55Very good one.
03:56Very good friend.
03:57Welcome back.
03:59Sorry.
04:00I was talking about Zoe very quickly.
04:01Yeah.
04:02In terms of that casting, no brainer in the end once you had her, right?
04:05Like what did she bring to the role for you?
04:06She's, well, I needed a real New York girl, you know?
04:09I needed someone that was no nonsense.
04:11Zoe Kravitz.
04:12Nailed it.
04:13Alright, thank you so much.
04:14Sorry about that.
04:15That's alright, no worries.
