02:38From ABC News World Headquarters in New York, this is World News Tonight with David Muir.
02:47Good evening.
02:48And we begin tonight here with the dangerous storms moving into the east right now.
02:51Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City all bracing for potentially dangerous winds, thunderstorms, and flash flooding.
02:57And it comes amid deadly storms already.
02:59At least four people killed, including a mother, father, and their three-year-old child who were killed when a tree fell on their SUV.
03:06Tonight, a state of emergency in Chattanooga.
03:08Drivers taken by surprise on Highway 24 after more than six inches of rain in a short period of time.
03:15The second wettest day in that city's history.
03:17The city's mayor tonight saying at least 35 people were rescued by swift water teams who worked straight through the night.
03:23And as we watch these new storms now headed for the northeast, we're also watching tonight Tropical Storm Aaron, now set to become the first major hurricane of the season in the Atlantic.
03:33Tonight, the satellite images here.
03:34Aaron, now about 2,400 miles from the east coast.
03:37We have the new timing for you.
03:39And tonight, the spaghetti models showing the potential path.
03:42Some of those models have it closer to the east coast now, but it is still very early.
03:46Many of the models have the hurricane still being held out to sea.
03:50Either way, rip currents will likely be a real issue all along the east coast.
03:54We have the forecast the storms hitting the northeast tonight and the track of this potential hurricane in the coming days.
04:00And ABC's Stephanie Ramos leading us off with the deadly storms already tonight.
04:04Tonight, flood watches for millions in the northeast after a deadly 24 hours in the south.
04:10Have you seen anything like this?
04:11More than half a foot of rain in the Chattanooga area, flooding Interstate 24.
04:16The highway's filling up.
04:17Go, people!
04:19This vehicle floating in high water.
04:21A Department of Transportation camera capturing a first responder carrying a person on their back who was trapped in their car to dry land.
04:29Chattanooga police say not far from this scene, a man was swept away by floodwaters, later found dead.
04:36Just outside Chattanooga in Eastridge, Tennessee, swift water rescue teams working around the clock, rescuing multiple families and their pets from homes.
04:44Sadly, in Eastridge, authorities say a mother, father and child were killed when a large tree fell on their SUV.
04:52The ground saturated throughout the region.
04:55Another massive tree crashing down just across the state line in Rossville, Georgia.
05:00Meanwhile, the East dealing with record-breaking heat in the last 24 hours outside Boston.
05:07It's a very hot night in the city and our gear is great, but it traps our heat.
05:13Multiple firefighters had to be treated for heat exhaustion after fighting this massive five-alarm fire in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
05:20Temperatures over 90 degrees.
05:22They work very hard, and some of that comes with a little bit of heat exhaustion, so we're going to check up on them, make sure everybody's okay.
05:31And David, back here in the Northeast, flight delays and cancellations are mounting due to thunderstorms in the area that are likely to cause flash flooding, too.
05:40David.
05:41Stephanie Ramos at Newark Airport for us.
05:42Steph, thank you.
05:43Let's get right to meteorologist Danny Beckstrom of our New York station, WABC, tracking it all.
05:48And, Danny, we can see those darkening skies right there behind you.
05:50Yeah, David, forecast verified as the rain's coming down tonight in New York City.
05:55Flood watches in parts of the South and Northeast.
05:58In general, Tennessee, parts of Georgia tonight, including forces of Alabama, going to expire that flood watch as we head into this evening.
06:04But here in the Northeast, it'll take until late tonight.
06:07Up the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C., Philly, into parts of New Jersey under that flood watch.
06:12We could also see a few isolated severe storms.
06:14We've seen that tonight in New Jersey.
06:15That's possible into southern New England.
06:17And, of course, all eyes are on the Atlantic now.
06:19Tropical storm Aaron slowly strengthening.
06:21Right now, max wind of 50 miles per hour.
06:23But it is set to become the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season either tomorrow or Friday.
06:28Eventually forecast to strengthen into a major hurricane by Sunday as it moves north of the Caribbean islands.
06:33That curve north, that's what everyone wants to know when and where, right?
06:36There's an area of high pressure.
06:37There's a cold front off the east coast.
06:39It will wedge between those two things.
06:41But exactly where that turn happens is what we still need to see.
06:44We expect that to happen on Monday.
06:46What we do feel confident in, high rip risk as well as rough surf in the U.S. east coast by about Wednesday.
06:51We'll keep watching it.
06:51David?
06:52We will be watching this for many days to come.
06:53Danny Beckstrom and the team get back inside now.
06:55We appreciate it.
06:56Now to the harrowing moments on board a flight from Norfolk, Virginia, to Los Angeles.
07:00That flight diverted.
07:01The airline saying a passenger fighting with the crew and fellow passengers restrained twice and breaking free from those restraints.
07:08The airline saying he got into an altercation with flight attendants, then passengers, and began fighting after breaking free.
07:14He was arrested when they landed in Grand Junction, Colorado, instead of Los Angeles.
07:18Here's ABC's Trevor Ault tonight.
07:20Tonight, a passenger in custody escorted off his flight after the airline says he started a physical altercation with their flight attendants and other passengers.
07:32They're calling it a level four disturbance now.
07:35They said they had him restrained.
07:36He broke out, and there's passengers holding him down there.
07:39The Breeze Airways flight was traveling from Norfolk, Virginia, to Los Angeles this morning.
07:44Police say they were told the passenger was intoxicated, yelling racial slurs at the flight attendants and waving around a skateboard.
07:51There's information that he struck a flight attendant, so there is intrigue.
07:55According to Air Traffic Control Audio, the passenger was restrained two separate times, but broke free both times.
08:03The unruly passengers are now free, trying to get people as well.
08:07The plane then declaring an emergency and diverting to Grand Junction, Colorado, where the airline says it was met promptly by local law enforcement officers who restrained and removed the passenger from the aircraft.
08:20Other passengers cheering and booing him.
08:24It's the latest of more than a thousand unruly incidents reported on planes nationwide this year.
08:30Last month, a New Jersey man was arrested for allegedly attacking another passenger just after they landed in Miami.
08:41And, David, in this Breeze Airways incident, the airline says a flight attendant and a passenger were evaluated for minor injuries.
08:48The FAA is now investigating.
08:50David, Trevor Rold at LAX tonight.
08:51Trevor, thank you.
08:52Tonight, two days now until the high-stakes summit between President Trump and Vladimir Putin.
08:56Tonight, President Trump has been asked, will Putin face consequences if Russia does not agree to stop this war after the summit?
09:03The president now warning Putin will face, in his words, severe consequences if there is no end to this war.
09:10And tonight, on the eve of this summit now, President Zelensky saying Putin is bluffing.
09:15Here's Rachel Scott.
09:17Tonight, two days before his high-stakes summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin,
09:22President Trump speaking with European allies and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to hammer out a strategy.
09:28President Zelensky was on the call.
09:31I would rate it a 10, you know, very, very friendly.
09:34Zelensky saying Trump agreed Putin must sign on to a ceasefire.
09:38We hope that the central topic of the meeting will be a ceasefire, Zelensky said.
09:44An immediate ceasefire.
09:45Today, reporters asking the president.
09:47Will Russia face any consequences if Vladimir Putin does not agree to stop the war after your meeting on Friday?
09:55Yes, they will.
09:57What will the consequences be?
09:58There will be consequences.
09:59Sanctions, tariffs?
10:00There will be.
10:00I don't have to say.
10:01There will be very severe consequences.
10:03But five minutes later, Trump acknowledging he probably won't be able to stop Putin from killing Ukrainian civilians.
10:09Do you believe you can convince him to stop targeting civilians in Ukraine?
10:15Well, I'll tell you what.
10:16I've had that conversation with him.
10:19I've had a lot of good conversations with him.
10:21Then I go home and I see that a rocket hit a nursing home or a rocket hit an apartment building and people are laying dead in the streets.
10:27So I guess the answer to that is no.
10:30The White House calls Friday's meeting a listening exercise.
10:33The president saying it's really about, quote, setting the table for a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
10:39There's a very good chance that we're going to have a second meeting, which will be more productive than the first,
10:44because the first is I'm going to find out where we are and what we're doing.
10:48And the president made it clear today there may not be a second meeting unless he hears what he needs to hear from President Putin.
10:55As for Zelensky, he says Putin is bluffing and that is not serious about ending this war, David.
11:00Rachel Scott, who will be on the air with me this Friday in our coverage of the summit.
11:03Rachel, we'll see you then.
11:05We turned out of the federal takeover of the police in Washington, D.C.,
11:08and tonight President Trump now says he will ask Congress to extend his takeover beyond the 30 days current law allows.
11:14800 National Guard soldiers have been called up.
11:16Sources say they expect a significantly higher presence on the ground there tonight.
11:21We turned out of the harrowing images.
11:23For the first time here, we're seeing what police encountered after a government opened fire outside a casino in Reno,
11:29killing three people a short time later than opening fire on police.
11:32ABC's back up in tonight with the images, and we warn you, they are disturbing.
11:38For the first time tonight, we're seeing this terrifying shootout between Reno police officers facing off
11:43with a gunman on the run after a deadly rampage outside a casino.
11:48New body camera video showing officers racing to the scene, immediately taking fire from the suspect.
11:53Put the gun down!
11:56Their vehicle riddled with bullets.
12:00Police say the suspect is 26-year-old Dakota Haver.
12:03Where's the gun? Where's the gun?
12:05He fired around 80 rounds with his handgun.
12:08Moments earlier, Haver had walked up to the valet area of a popular resort and casino just outside downtown Reno
12:14and opened fire on a crowd there before taking off.
12:17Three people were killed.
12:19Several others were wounded.
12:20We're going to leave three victims in the valet.
12:23I need an ambulance up here with one gunshot wound to the arm and the leg.
12:29Within two and a half minutes, officers arrived, and in a dramatic gun battle,
12:33they wounded Haver.
12:37And David, that suspect died in a hospital a few days later.
12:40Police say they're still investigating a possible link between the suspect, the casino, and the victims.
12:45They're still searching for a motive, David.
12:47All right, Matt Guppin with us tonight.
12:49Matt, thank you.
12:49We're also following a deadly shooting near a school bus stop in Louisville, Kentucky.
12:53There is a search underway right now.
12:56Authorities say a woman was shot and killed while walking a child to the bus stop.
13:00Here's ABC's Ike Ajachi.
13:02Tonight, police in Louisville, Kentucky are urgently searching for this alleged gunman,
13:07who they say opened fire near children on their way to school,
13:11killing a woman as she walked a little girl to the bus stop.
13:14First shot fired at the bus stop, one person on the ground.
13:16You know, shot in the chest, back.
13:19The woman rushed to the hospital, but it was too late.
13:24The young girl was not hurt.
13:26I'm thinking about the child's hand she was holding.
13:28The healing is going to be for a very long time.
13:31Kids should be able to go to school, go to the bus stop in the morning without any fear of gun violence,
13:37of having to run for their life in the morning.
13:40It comes just days after surveillance video allegedly shows a 15-year-old opening fire near the same bus stop
13:47while children were waiting for the school bus.
13:49No one was injured, but that teenager was arrested.
13:53This is the second time in a week that we're talking about this, and it is absolutely pathetic.
13:58David, police have not said that the suspect knew the victim
14:01or how she was related to the little girl she was taking to the bus stop.
14:05Now, police have been patrolling that bus stop since last week's shooting.
14:09Today was the first day they were not there.
14:12David?
14:12Ike Ajachi tonight, Ike. Thank you.
14:14We turn now to the economy tonight.
14:15A very good day on Wall Street.

15:07The bus rolling onto its side, more than 40 children from Bagnet Elementary School on board at the time.
15:13At least three victims are in serious condition at this hour.

15:24Chilean authorities accusing Ethan Guo of filing a false flight plan,
15:28lying about his destination as he kept flying his Cessna toward Antarctica.
15:32He tells ABC News he had an engine failure and had to land at a base on a remote island in June.
15:37He says charges against him have been dropped, but says the base is preventing him from leaving.
15:41He says he's trying to fly around the world to raise money for cancer awareness.
15:45By the way, his interview on Good Morning America tomorrow morning.
15:49In New York, startling images in the water just off the Hamptons,
15:52videos showing a paddleboarder near a huge school of fish just off Bridgehampton.
15:56Multiple sharks feeding in the water right there, the paddleboarder about 125 feet from shore.

16:05When we come back here tonight, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealing a personal battle.
16:10And this coffee recall tonight, it involves 48 states and also where that diamond has been found and where you can look to.

17:06The company responding to reports of glass fragments found in 8-ounce containers of Clover Valley instant coffee.
17:12They have a best buy date of December 13th or 14th, 2026.
17:16No injuries have been reported.
17:18When we come back here tonight, the young woman from New York City finding a 2.3-carat diamond
17:23in a place where you can look for diamonds, too.
17:25Where she found it and her plan for that diamond already.
17:28Finally tonight, here are the diamond in the rough.
17:32Really, a 2.3-carat diamond sitting at her feet.
17:36Tonight at the Crater of Diamond State Park in southwest Arkansas, an unbelievable discovery.
17:41A 2.3-carat white diamond.
17:44You may not know this is one of the few places where the public is actually allowed to search for diamonds themselves.
17:50Since 1972, visitors at the Crater of Diamond State Park have been sifting through about 37 acres,
17:57all hoping for some good luck.
17:59The park telling us about 140,000 people come every year.
18:04And get this, one to two diamonds are found every day, but rarely this size.
