A bounty of some two point one million dollars has been placed on the heads of three government ministers connected to the recent URP and CEPEP controversy where the government decided to suspend these programs pending a review.
Senior police sources as well as underworld sources confirmed the bounties placed on the heads of the ministers- while also shedding further light on the threat against Defence Minister Wayne Sturge.
00:00The threats issued against government ministers Khadija Amin, Barry Padarath and Sturge are real and credible.
00:06Over the weekend, a newspaper article confirmed that a particular report had been compiled about threats made against Minister Wayne Sturge and why he was possibly being targeted.
00:16Today, intelligence and underworld sources confirmed to TV6 News that a $700,000 bounty had been placed on each minister's head, as well as the same figure for URP program manager Farouz Khan.
00:28These threats were not recent but date back to May just after the UNC came into power after winning the 2025 general elections in April, Sturge later declaring that the URP and CEPA programs would be suspended pending review and reform.
00:42Sources told TV6 News that a contractor who had ties to the resistance gang, with one of his relatives fronting as a head of the Toko Sangigandi area for the gang, alongside a man wanted for a 2024 murder now hiding out in Colombia, was said to be the main players behind the plot.
00:59Sources told TV6 News that both the contractor from the Toko Sangigandi area, alongside another Santa Cruz contractor who worked as his business partner involved in illegal quarrying, and this man based in Colombia had been promised certain contracts after the election.
01:14The contractors had allegedly pumped $20 million into the election campaign of the UNC, and in exchange, they were expected to be equated with contracts in URP and CPEP.
01:25Since intelligence reports were compiled on the alleged threats, sources in the underworld confirmed that a Jamaican hitman was recently brought into the country to assist the other hitmen with the targeted ministers.
01:35This morning, Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, while speaking on TV6's morning edition, alluded to the threats.
01:42This decision was not needed as a vacuum, and it didn't take all of four or five seconds.
01:49The Honourable Prime Minister, after continuous deliberation for a long time, it's almost like giving a verdict in a matter in the High Court.
02:00You see?
02:00But taking into consideration the safety and security of our citizens, we as a government had a decision to make.
02:08Now, persons behaving like, this is the last time or there will be no more independent state parade, that is not the case.
02:16Meanwhile, PNM Chairman Marvin Gonzalez had asked the Defence Minister Wayne Sturge to come clean on the threat,
02:22and said any threat on the life of a public official must be taken seriously.
