00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at 30 movies whose legacies have been deeply
00:19affected by real-world revelations, scandals, and controversies.
00:23The Flash. Released in 2023, The Flash had the ingredients of a superhero spectacle, heart,
00:33nostalgia, and multiverse chaos.
00:46While Barry Allen was racing through time to save his mom, lead star Ezra Miller was making
00:51headlines for all the wrong reasons.
00:52I completely broke the universe.
00:55Multiple arrests, disturbing allegations, and violent outbursts are hardly the resume you'd
01:00want for a cinematic hero.
01:01Frankly, casting someone accused of choking a woman and grooming minors as a crime-fighting,
01:06selfless Barry Allen just didn't sound right.
01:09The film bombed at the box office.
01:11Sure, other factors came into play, but Miller's controversy didn't exactly help things.
01:15It just goes to show that off-screen chaos can sometimes mess up even the most ambitious
01:20universes.
01:21Barry, that was actually only half-stupid.
01:24Snow White and the Huntsman.
01:25This dark fantasy film reimagined the classic fairy tale with a gritty, battle-heavy twist.
01:31Do not hesitate.
01:33They look in their eyes and do not pull it out until you see their soul.
01:36Still, it did pretty well at the box office, even though it received mixed reviews from critics.
01:57But while the film looked like a fairy tale reboot, it wound up becoming Hollywood drama
02:01meets tabloid nightmare.
02:03Why?
02:04Well, in 2012, a scandal erupted when Kristen Stewart was photographed in an intimate moment
02:09with Rupert Sanders, the film's married director.
02:12If I had a choice, I'd take you far away.
02:16Keep you safe by my side.
02:19This happened while she was still dating her Twilight co-star, Robert Pattinson.
02:23As expected, the scandal triggered a tabloid frenzy and ignited fan backlash.
02:28Stewart and Sanders eventually apologized.
02:31Honestly, it was such a mess, and now we can't think about the film without remembering that real-life
02:35betrayal.
02:36It seriously broke hearts.
02:37Go on.
02:40Watch them die.
02:41Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
02:43Doug Liman's spy thriller is an entertaining romp that sees Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
02:47play rival assassins tasked to kill each other.
02:50I thought I told you not to bother me at the office, honey.
02:53Well, you are still Mrs. Smith.
02:54Well, so are a lot of girls.
02:59Careful, Jane.
02:59I can push the button anytime, anywhere, sweetheart.
03:01Baby, you couldn't find the button with both hands and a mat.
03:04But let's be real.
03:06Most people can't talk about the film without thinking of one of Hollywood's biggest scandals.
03:10It all started on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, when rumors swirled that Jolie and
03:14Pitt had more than just on-screen chemistry.
03:17Satisfying?
03:19Not for years.
03:20The catch?
03:20Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston.
03:23Though they denied having an affair, the timeline of his divorce and his new relationship
03:26with Jolie fueled media speculation.
03:29Eventually, Jolie and Pitt admitted they fell in love while filming.
03:32Once you know that, it's hard not to feel like we're watching the moment things changed,
03:36for all three of them.
03:37Sometimes you have to battle through.
03:40That's marriage, right?
03:41Yeah, you take your best shot and...
03:44Oh, we redid the house.
03:46Call Me By Your Name.
03:47Luca Guadagnino's coming-of-age drama was released in 2017, way before Armie Hammer's
03:52controversy surfaced.
03:53I can't believe you changed it again.
03:55Oh, I changed it a little bit.
03:56Yeah, why?
03:57I just played it the way Busoni would have played it if he'd altered Liszt's version.
04:02And what is wrong with Bach, the way Bach would have played Bach's version?
04:04Bach never wrote it for the guitar.
04:05In fact, we're not even sure Bach wrote it at all.
04:07Forget I asked!
04:08At the time, it was celebrated for being a tender, sun-baked romance, with emotional death
04:13and unforgettable performances.
04:15But years later, that image took a hit when Hammer became the center of a disturbing
04:19allegation in 2021.
04:20That's funny, I... I thought that...
04:25Yeah, I know what you thought.
04:27Multiple women came forward with disturbing claims of sexual coercion and even cannibalistic
04:32fantasies.
04:33The fallout damaged Hammer's image and his career, so you can't blame anyone who can't
04:37watch Oliver without viewing him in the light of Hammer's real-life allegations.
04:41It might sound dramatic, but for some, it may be hard to watch the film without feeling
04:45a sense of unease.
04:46You're not gonna be, like, in any trouble.
04:49That's not what I'm talking about.
04:50Bohemian Rhapsody
04:51While Bohemian Rhapsody got mixed reviews, fans still loved it for being a dazzling celebration
04:56of Queen's legacy and Freddie Mercury's brilliance.
04:58Another one bites the dust
05:00And another one gone
05:02And another one gone
05:03Another one bites the dust
05:04Even so, some viewers may find it uncomfortable to watch given the director's history.
05:09Truthfully, this biopic looked like a triumph, but the production?
05:13Not so smooth.
05:13Well, I need a break.
05:15I'm sick of it.
05:17What are you saying, Freddie?
05:18The film's original director, Bryan Singer, was fired mid-production for unexplained absences,
05:28late arrivals, and tension with the cast.
05:30But that wasn't the worst of it.
05:32Around the film's awards season run, serious allegations about sexual misconduct and abuse
05:36against Singer resurfaced.
05:38As a result, he was removed from the film's BAFTA nominations.
05:42So while the film shines on, its legacy is somewhat tainted by the actions of the man behind the camera.
05:46No time for losers, let's bring up the champions!
05:55Rebel without a cause.
05:57Can we really talk about the most tragically cursed movie cast in Hollywood history
06:00without bringing up this coming-of-age classic?
06:03You're tearing me apart!
06:06What?
06:07You say one thing, he says another, and everybody changes back again!
06:11It captured teenage angst with great authenticity.
06:14But the real heartbreak happened off-screen.
06:16I know one thing.
06:19I'm not going back in that zoo.
06:21I'm never going back.
06:23All three of the film's leads died young and under eerie circumstances.
06:27James Dean was the first, killed in a car crash at just 24, a month before the movie premiered.
06:32Sal Mineo, who played Plato, was stabbed at age 37 and what looked like a random robbery.
06:37Natalie Wood drowned under mysterious circumstances, which still sparks questions.
06:41So it's only natural if viewers just don't watch these youngsters wrestle with teenage problems,
06:46but also mourn stars who never got old.
06:49The ghostly feeling is hard to shake.
06:52Help me.
06:55Jim.
06:55I Heart Huckabee's.
06:57Known for its quirky existential style, I Heart Huckabee's is a film where characters grapple with the meaning of life.
07:04Who sent you here?
07:05Nobody.
07:06Found your card.
07:07Where?
07:08Some fancy restaurant that I'd never been to before.
07:10It appears to promote spiritual awakening, compassion, and letting go of ego.
07:14That's why the infamous behind-the-scenes incident between actress Lily Tomlin and director David Russell
07:19feels so jarring in comparison.
07:22In 2007, leaked footage showed Russell and Tomlin in a very tense screaming match.
07:26I'm not as brilliant as you.
07:28I can't keep up with you.
07:30No, but we're being very efficient.
07:32We're being very efficient?
07:33We're being patient with you.
07:34Russell went as far as hurling profanities at Tomlin
07:37and even throwing objects in a complete loss of control.
07:40Isn't it ironic that a movie that preaches about zen-like calm and enlightenment
07:44had such an aggressive making?
07:46We certainly can't blame anyone who can't separate the film's message from that on-set meltdown.
07:50How am I not myself?
07:52How am I not myself?
07:54How am I not myself?
07:56The Conqueror.
07:57No movie is worth dying for, right?
07:59But this 1956 historical epic, which flopped at the box office,
08:04ended up costing far more than anyone bargained for.
08:06I beg forgiveness for her, Ocon.
08:09With such gestures, does the Tartar woman prove her love?
08:11Probably in pursuit of authenticity,
08:13The Conqueror was filmed in Utah, dangerously close to nuclear testing sites.
08:18The crew knew about this, but the government assured them it was safe.
08:21So, production went ahead.
08:23All of us go down to destruction.
08:25Radioactive waste was even shipped back to Hollywood for reshoots.
08:28Out of 220 cast and crew members, 91 developed cancer.
08:32Many, including actors like John Wayne and Susan Hayward,
08:36eventually died from the disease.
08:38Though it hasn't been conclusively proven the filming location caused these deaths,
08:41the grim possibility has led it to be considered one of Hollywood's deadliest productions.
08:46Grant that I may die swiftly.
08:48No.
08:49Jumoga.
08:49That is a favor I ask my brother.
08:53I hold you to your oath.
08:54Blade Trinity.
08:55This 2004 superhero movie wasn't just the end of the Blade trilogy.
08:59It marked the beginning of the end of Wesley Snipes' career.
09:02It's the end game, Blade.
09:03Well, all their plans are coming to fruition.
09:08Why don't you just sit back and enjoy the show?
09:19I hate familial.
09:22Reports say Snipe was unhappy with the choice of director,
09:25refused to leave his trailer,
09:27and communicated with the cast and crew using post-it notes.
09:29This troubled shoot cast him in a negative light and damaged his reputation.
09:34Not long after, he faced legal issues that landed him in jail,
09:37and his leading man's status in Hollywood quickly disappeared.
09:40You think they could ever grasp what it means to be immortal?
09:43You're not immortal.
09:45I must have heard hundreds of you rodents make the same claim.
09:48Once you hear about the backstage drama,
09:50like how Snipes allegedly refused to keep his eyes open,
09:53it's hard to unsee the tension.
09:55Instead of just another action flick,
09:56it feels like you're witnessing the unraveling of a star in real time.
09:59Blade.
10:01Ready to die.
10:06I was born ready, mother f***er.
10:08Twilight Zone, the movie.
10:09You thought this sci-fi anthology was scary?
10:12Wait until you hear about the tragic behind-the-scenes incident
10:14that shattered its legacy.
10:16Blade.
10:18Help me, please.
10:19In 1982, during the filming of Twilight Zone, the movie,
10:22a helicopter accident changed everything.
10:25Vic Morrow and two children were killed in a Vietnam War scene,
10:28gone horribly wrong.
10:30The kids had been hired illegally and worked past legal hours.
10:34The freak incident sparked public outrage over safety violation
10:37and the use of underage actors.
10:39Ready?
10:41Ready?
10:42Ready?
10:43Director John Landis and his crew were charged with manslaughter,
10:47though they were later acquitted.
10:48So, what should have been a revival of a beloved classic
10:51became one of Hollywood's darkest on-set tragedies.
10:55The Birth of a Nation.
10:56A technical marvel that ushered in many of the filmmaking techniques used today,
11:00this movie's impact on the future of the medium cannot be understated.
11:03And yet, there's more than a few reasons why they don't teach
11:13The Birth of a Nation in film class.
11:14The big one is it's often considered one of the most racist movies ever made.
11:19Every single African-American character is portrayed as a mindless, damaging caricature,
11:23which is made all the worse since most of the performances are by white actors in blackface.
11:27Under a modern social lens, the truly abhorrent depiction of race relations
11:31overshadows any of the film's cinematic merit.
11:40It ends with us.
11:41Forget the on-screen fireworks.
11:43The juiciest drama here happened behind the scenes.
11:46Director and star Justin Baldoni had a seriously rocky relationship with leading woman Blake Lively,
11:51and by the time the film released, it had soured into a full-on publicity war zone.
11:55It actually gets worse.
11:56Yeah.
11:57No way.
11:57Yeah, no, it does.
11:58On one hand, you had fans calling out Lively for her cavalier treatment of the film's sensitive themes.
12:03On the other, there was Baldoni, who fielded allegations of on-set harassment and intimidation.
12:09This wasn't just mudslinging, though.
12:10Things got so bad, lawyers had to get involved,
12:13burying the film's box office success underneath a mountain of legal gossip.
12:17I thought we were friends.
12:18We are friends.
12:19Something tells us when people think of this movie, it won't be because of the storytelling.
12:23Better Off Dead
12:24Ricky Smith is an awkward deconstruction of the guy-next-door trope.
12:28He's rightfully called out for his very uncomfortable obsession with Monique,
12:32and spends most of Better Off Dead as the butt of a joke.
12:34It's all fine and dandy, until you realize Ricky is played by Dan Schneider.
12:53Yeah, Nickelodeon's Dan Schneider.
12:56For those who don't know, he was the creator behind several iconic kid shows,
13:00like iCarly, Victorious, and Zoey 101.
13:02But his work has since been heavily scrutinized for putting young,
13:05female performers into highly inappropriate situations.
13:08Given that Ricky Smith is the exact kind of creep Schneider's accused of being,
13:12Better Off Dead is nigh unwatchable anymore.
13:15Monique, Monique, I had no idea where you'd gotten off to.
13:20You shouldn't make me worry.
13:24Lane, Ricky, I see you've made Monique's acquaintance.
13:30The Blind Side
13:31A captivating true story of community, passion, and football,
13:352009's The Blind Side is an Oscar-winning crowd-pleaser for all ages.
13:38Tell me everything I need to know about you.
13:41Who takes care of you?
13:42A mother?
13:44Do you have a mother?
13:46A grandmother, maybe?
13:53Tell you what, Big Mike,
13:55we can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way.
13:57Or at least, it was until 2023.
14:00The film version of events see down on his luck Michael Orr,
14:03adopted by the Toei family,
14:05who helped propel him into a mainstream football star.
14:07Fourteen years later, Orr revealed the Toei's hadn't adopted him at all,
14:11but rather invoked a conservatorship,
14:13which allowed them to profit off his likeness.
14:15He entered a conservatorship with the Toei's,
14:19which is wildly different than an adoption.
14:22Kind of makes you question their motives, doesn't it?
14:24Even without touching on the white savior part of it all,
14:27the allegations alone are enough to change how you see the blind side forever.
14:31A Beautiful Mind
14:32All it takes is a little digging to see that this biography
14:35isn't really based on a true story at all.
14:37The truth is that I don't like people much.
14:42And they don't much like me.
14:43But why?
14:44With all your obvious wit and charm.
14:46While John Nash was a gifted mathematician,
14:49and a recipient of the Nobel Prize in economics,
14:51that's about as accurate as A Beautiful Mind gets.
14:53It conveniently leaves out Nash's complicated history with women,
14:56his alleged anti-Semitism,
14:58and how serious his schizophrenic behavior really was.
15:01A Beautiful Mind is definitely a well-made film,
15:03but it tries so hard to make you root for its main character,
15:06it becomes glorified fanfiction.
15:08Conviction, it turns out,
15:10is the luxury of those on the sidelines, Mr. Nash.
15:15I'll try and keep that in mind.
15:17The truth doesn't always make for a good story,
15:19but trying to conceal it
15:20is a surefire way to destroy your movie's reputation.
15:23Last Tango in Paris
15:25In this erotic drama,
15:27a young Marlon Brando begins a risque relationship
15:29with a young Parisian girl.
15:31So you're here?
15:32What did you answer?
15:34Go get the butter.
15:35I have to hurry, I have a cap dancer waiting.
15:38Go get the butter.
15:39When she rejects him,
15:40he takes what he wants with force.
15:42It's a harrowing scene
15:43in what is already one of the most explicit films ever made.
15:46But, to make matters worse,
15:47actress Maria Schneider had no idea
15:49just how far it would go
15:50when she showed up to set that day.
15:52In order to elicit a more natural reaction,
15:55both Brando and the movie's director
15:56withheld the specifics of Schneider's role.
15:58Let's talk about us.
16:02Okay.
16:04This place is so pitiful.
16:06It's a choice that left the 19-year-old utterly traumatized.
16:09Nowadays, the most famous scene in Last Tango in Paris
16:12is also the one we recommend fast-forwarding through.
16:15The Adventures of Milo and Otis
16:17How controversial could a children's film
16:18about cats and dogs get?
16:20You're in the pipe, Milo.
16:21Try again.
16:24How does he do that?
16:26Milo wondered.
16:27Well, the answer is pretty darn controversial,
16:30especially when the production is accused
16:32of numerous counts of animal neglect.
16:34Since Milo and Otis were both played by real animals,
16:36many international humane societies
16:38launched investigations
16:39into whether the pets were properly cared for
16:42during the long shoot.
16:43No hard evidence was found either way.
16:45However, rumors of its eerily realistic stunt work
16:48has followed the adventures of Milo and Otis ever since.
16:50A dream about Otis
16:52and how they used to play together when they were young.
16:55Oh, would it ever be like this again?
16:58Would he ever see Otis again?
17:01We get why.
17:01These two furballs are so adorable,
17:04the mere thought of them being harmed
17:05in the making of this movie
17:06is completely unforgivable.
17:09Heather's.
17:09These days,
17:10a high school drama with murder,
17:12sexual harassment,
17:13and bomb threats
17:14would be yanked out of theaters
17:15faster than you could say,
17:16sorry, Heather.
17:17Hello, Jason Dean.
17:19Greetings and salutations.
17:23You a Heather?
17:25No.
17:26I'm a Veronica.
17:28Sawyer.
17:29But in the 80s,
17:30it was just good popcorn entertainment.
17:32Heather's was a teen thriller
17:33so divorced from reality,
17:35it could cut right to its
17:36razor-sharp social commentary.
17:38However,
17:38as the years go by,
17:40Veronica and JD's
17:41ultra-violent love story
17:42becomes closer and closer
17:43to everyday high school life.
17:45In an age where schools
17:46are common targets
17:47for acts of terror,
17:48Heather strikes a much darker chord.
17:50What are you talking about?
17:51You hated her.
17:52She hated you.
17:53If you want proof,
17:54just look at the ill-fated TV adaptation,
17:56which had to be pushed back
17:57again and again
17:58due to rising gun violence.
18:01Poltergeist
18:01and Poltergeist 2 the other side.
18:03While some might find the movie
18:04too scary to sit through,
18:06in reality,
18:07Poltergeist is tough to revisit
18:08for reasons outside its narrative.
18:10Her name is Heather O'Rourke.
18:23They're here.
18:25The acclaimed child actor
18:26was the heart of the movie
18:27as Carol Ann,
18:28a young girl who's trying desperately
18:30to evade a ghostly trip
18:31to the other world.
18:32But,
18:33the scary movie
18:33became an eerie prophecy of sorts
18:35when O'Rourke passed away
18:36in 1988 at the age of 12.
18:38Given the real-life circumstances,
18:40seeing her character
18:41nearly die in Poltergeist 2
18:42is extremely hard to stomach.
18:45Baby.
18:47Baby.
18:48In a way,
18:50it's a testament to O'Rourke's work.
18:51She's simply too convincing.
18:53Kramer vs. Kramer.
18:55No judge or jury needed here.
18:57Dustin Hoffman
18:57is 100% in the wrong.
18:59Just tell me what I did.
19:00That's all.
19:01Just tell me what I did.
19:02That's so terrible.
19:02His commitment to method acting
19:04is commendable,
19:05but it crosses a lot of lines
19:06when he can't separate
19:07his castmates from their characters,
19:09such as in Kramer vs. Kramer.
19:10In the name of invoking
19:11a better performance from her,
19:13Hoffman repeatedly harassed
19:14co-star Meryl Streep.
19:15It ranged from insults
19:16to slaps
19:17to even throwing a real glass
19:19at a wall
19:19without her knowledge.
19:21Don't talk to me that way.
19:22I have anticipated this whole thing.
19:23I don't want to get into this.
19:24Look, you're going to have to do
19:25what you're going to have to do
19:25and I'm going to have to do it.
19:26I'm very sorry about this.
19:27Okay.
19:28Just do what you have to do.
19:30Come on.
19:31You can literally see the tension
19:32between them on screen.
19:34Knowing the extent of Hoffman's behavior
19:35reframes these top-tier performances
19:37into a case study
19:38of an extremely toxic work environment.
19:41American Beauty.
19:42In 1999,
19:43Kevin Spacey found Oscar gold
19:45for playing Lester Burnham,
19:46a man who pursues
19:47a scandalous relationship
19:48with his daughter's best friend.
19:50You've been working out, haven't you?
19:52I can tell.
19:56I was hoping you'd give me a bath.
19:59Very, very dirty.
20:01For years,
20:02it was the Kevin Spacey role.
20:04Then, in 2017,
20:06the hashtag MeToo movement revealed
20:07that Spacey and Burnham
20:09had more in common
20:10than previously thought.
20:11Multiple men
20:12stepped forward
20:12accusing Spacey
20:13of unwanted sexual advances
20:15over the years.
20:16Immediately,
20:17American Beauty's Oscar gold dimmed,
20:19with many finding
20:19the parallels too close for comfort.
20:22Don't interrupt me.
20:23Even though Spacey
20:24has since been acquitted of liability,
20:26the damage to his image means
20:27there's no way to watch American Beauty
20:29without thinking of the scandal.
20:31The Shining.
20:32The scariest part
20:32of this classic horror flick
20:33is what happened to Shelley Duvall.
20:35What are you doing down here?
20:37I just wanted to talk to you.
20:50Okay.
20:52Let's talk.
20:53As Jack Nicholson's character
20:55falls deeper into madness,
20:57director Stanley Kubrick
20:58knew Duvall had to serve
20:59as the audience surrogate,
21:00aka,
21:01her job was to freak out
21:02in the final act.
21:03Kubrick, however,
21:04was unsatisfied with her work,
21:06and he made sure she knew it.
21:07Duvall was verbally berated,
21:09kept for long hours,
21:10and allegedly made to do takes
21:11over a hundred times.
21:13Before the film was finished,
21:14clumps of Duvall's own hair
21:15were falling out from the stress.
21:17We can't argue with the results.
21:21The Shining is a true
21:22genre-defining staple,
21:24but it came at way too high a cost.
21:27The Crow.
21:27If you watched The Crow
21:28with no prior knowledge,
21:30you'd probably be enthralled
21:31by its unapologetic style
21:32and edginess.
21:33But sometimes,
21:35something so bad happens
21:36that a terrible sadness
21:38is carried with it,
21:39and the soul can't rest.
21:42Then sometimes,
21:43just sometimes,
21:45The Crow can bring that soul back.
21:47To put the wrong things right.
21:49Unfortunately,
21:50the film takes on
21:51a whole new meaning
21:51when you learn
21:52leading man Brandon Lee
21:53died on set.
21:55With only three days
21:55of shooting left,
21:56negligent handling of a prop gun
21:58put the entirety
21:59of The Crow into question.
22:01Eventually,
22:01producers decided
22:02to go forward
22:03with the theatrical release.
22:04But,
22:05considering The Crow
22:05features Lee's character
22:06rising from the dead
22:08to exact vengeance
22:08on those who wronged him,
22:10the actor's death
22:10isn't exactly easy to forget.
22:12I'm not gonna kill you.
22:14Your job would be
22:15to tell the rest of them
22:17that death is coming for them
22:18tonight.
22:20All things considered,
22:20though,
22:21it's a feat The Crow
22:22ever saw the light of day
22:23in the first place.
22:24The Wizard of Oz
22:25Dorothy's trip to Oz
22:27was made with a
22:27Herculean effort
22:28from the cast,
22:29many of whom
22:30have actual scars
22:30to prove it.
22:31For example,
22:40the original actor
22:41for The Tin Man
22:42had a severe reaction
22:43to the aluminum makeup
22:44and was hastily replaced.
22:45Then,
22:46there's Margaret Hamilton,
22:47who suffered third-degree burns
22:48during a botched stunt.
22:50Oh,
22:50and there's also
22:50the original director,
22:51who was fired partway
22:52through production
22:53for creative reasons.
22:54Most of all,
22:55we can't forget Judy Garland,
22:56who endured non-stop ridicule
22:58and harassment
22:59during shooting.
23:00Please, sir,
23:00I've got to see the wizard.
23:03The Good Witch of the North
23:04sent me.
23:05Suffice it to say,
23:06if you follow
23:06The Yellow Brick Road,
23:07you're going to stumble
23:08on a lot of
23:09classic Hollywood scandals.
23:11In Cold Blood
23:12after Robert Blake
23:13stepped into the shoes
23:14of murderer Perry Smith
23:15back in 1967.
23:16You never meant it.
23:20About going to Mexico,
23:22did you?
23:23Did you?
23:28Sure, baby.
23:31Sure we're going.
23:32Later in 2001,
23:34Blake experienced
23:34another murder trial,
23:36only this time,
23:36he wasn't acting.
23:37When the body of Blake's
23:38second wife turned up
23:39in his vehicle,
23:40he became the prime suspect
23:41in the news story
23:42of the year.
23:43Even though Blake
23:44was acquitted of murder charges,
23:45the court of public opinion
23:47was slow to forgive
23:47and forget.
23:49It's especially hard
23:50given his performance
23:50in In Cold Blood,
23:52where Blake convincingly
23:52plays someone charged
23:53with the very same crime.
23:55Please,
23:56try to control yourself.
23:58No matter your opinion,
23:59it's easy to see
23:59why many opt out
24:00of seeing this movie.
24:02Contagion.
24:03Years before
24:03the COVID-19 pandemic
24:04forced the world
24:05into quarantine,
24:06a sci-fi thriller
24:07hit screens
24:08with an uncomfortably
24:09similar premise.
24:10You wait a few days,
24:13this will be tweeted
24:13and YouTubed
24:14all over the planet.
24:16Based on the name,
24:17it's obvious
24:17what Contagion is about,
24:18but it went viral
24:20in 2020
24:20for more than its plot.
24:22No.
24:22The movie also features
24:23several small details
24:24about pandemic life
24:25that feel incredibly apropos.
24:27The masking,
24:28the social distancing,
24:29the bevy of conspiracies
24:31and social unrest.
24:32Contagion basically predicted
24:33exactly how the world
24:34would respond
24:35to a mass outbreak.
24:36You really think
24:37this Dr. Hextall CDC person
24:39is Jesus in a lab coat.
24:41The government rushed
24:42the trials.
24:43The lawyers indemnified
24:45the drug companies.
24:46It's quite a storytelling feat,
24:47all things considered.
24:48Although,
24:49that's also why many think
24:50it hits too close to home.
24:52Powder.
24:53A solid but unspectacular
24:54installment in Disney's
24:55live-action catalog,
24:56the only time anyone
24:57mentions Powder anymore
24:58is to bring up
24:59the movie's director,
25:00Victor Salva.
25:01I'm also the writer-director
25:02of Powder
25:03and Peaceful Warrior
25:04and Rites of Passage.
25:05I love drama
25:07and I do drama
25:07very well too.
25:09In 1988,
25:10he was convicted
25:10of gross acts
25:11towards the underage star
25:12of his film,
25:13Clown House.
25:14To reiterate,
25:15Powder is a Disney movie.
25:16A convicted felon
25:17not only got another
25:18directing gig,
25:19but this time
25:20for one of the most
25:20family-friendly companies
25:21on Earth.
25:22You're not here
25:23to ask me questions.
25:26You're here to find out
25:27how I cheated.
25:29It's the only way
25:30you can make sense of it.
25:32It's what you need
25:33to believe.
25:34Let that sink in.
25:35Despite some
25:36concerted protests,
25:37this wasn't the end
25:38of Salva's career either.
25:39He'd go on to helm
25:40the cult hit
25:40Jeepers Creepers 2.
25:42Some of those scenes
25:42will definitely
25:43make you shudder,
25:44and not just because
25:45of the Creeper.
25:46The Fearless Vampire Killers.
25:48Spoiler alert,
25:48Sharon Tate dies
25:49in the movie.
25:50Dearly beloved brethren,
25:53come closer.
25:55Roman Polanski tries to
26:08save her character,
26:09but she falls victim
26:10to the vampires,
26:11and the credits roll.
26:12That wasn't the end
26:12of their story though.
26:13The performers fell in love
26:14and got married,
26:15only for Tate to meet
26:16the same fate as her character
26:17two years later.
26:18You might know it better
26:19by the name,
26:20The Manson Murders.
26:21It's one of the most
26:22notorious acts of violence
26:23in American history.
26:24So seeing Polanski and Tate
26:26unknowingly act out
26:27their future,
26:28makes Fearless Vampire Killers
26:29an incredibly disturbing watch.
26:31I'm not disturbing you,
26:32am I?
26:33Not at all,
26:34not at all.
26:35Vampires or not,
26:36this movie felt
26:37way too real.
26:38Manhattan.
26:39In 1979,
26:40Woody Allen dated
26:41a young girl,
26:42while also exploring
26:43feelings for two other
26:44women in his life.
26:45You should think of me
26:46sort of as a detour
26:48on the highway of life.
26:49Oh, sorry,
26:50that's not Allen.
26:50That's the plot of
26:51Manhattan,
26:52a movie he coincidentally
26:53wrote,
26:54directed,
26:55and starred in.
26:56If some of those
26:56details seem familiar,
26:57it's because Allen
26:58himself has faced
26:59serious accusations
27:00of uncouth behavior
27:01towards his daughter,
27:02Dylan Farrow.
27:03While nothing's ever
27:03been proven,
27:04the substantial media
27:05attention has stained
27:06much of Allen's
27:07cinematic legacy.
27:08Jesus,
27:09I'm shocked,
27:11I'm shocked,
27:13I'm surprised.
27:15Particularly the movie
27:16where he literally
27:17dates a teenager.
27:18For all its positive buzz,
27:20Manhattan might just
27:21be too far gone
27:22to ever recover
27:22in the eyes of the public.

27:40Every Harvey Weinstein film.
27:42If your favorite movie
27:43came out in the 90s
27:44or early 2000s,
27:45there's a good chance
27:46it's forever ruined
27:47thanks to the actions
27:48of one man.
27:49Stage love will never
27:50be true love
27:51while the law of the land
27:52has our heroines
27:52being played by
27:53pipsqueak boys
27:54in petticoats.
27:56Bonus points
27:56if it has a female lead.
27:57Harvey Weinstein's stink
27:59infected Hollywood
27:59for generations
28:00to the point it's not fair
28:02to single out one film.
28:03He harassed so many women
28:05that his grubby legacy
28:06is over comedies,
28:07horrors,
28:08dramas,
28:08and everything in between.
28:10It's a real shame
28:10that such a large corner
28:11of the industry
28:12is forever tainted
28:13by such a despicable man.
28:15I was sitting here
28:16eating my muffin
28:16and drinking my coffee
28:17and replaying the incident
28:19in my head
28:19when I had what
28:20alcoholics refer to
28:22as a moment of clarity.
28:24Then again,
28:24the real question
28:25is how his behavior
28:26went unchecked
28:27for so long.
28:28What other film's legacy
28:29has been tainted
28:30by backstage drama,
28:31tragedy,
28:32or scandal?

28:42They just don't know it yet.
