00:00Hello everyone, Ruhi Sinet here.
00:02There are some roads in life that shape people's lives.
00:04But this road ended many people's lives.
00:07We are in the Baltistan-Gilgut region of Pakistan.
00:10We spent plenty of efforts to come here.
00:12We even saw people losing their lives.
00:15Roads' problems are plentiful.
00:16First of all, it is totally neglected.
00:18Villiers of the ninth biggest mountain in the world, Nanga Parbat,
00:22have opened this road and ever since it was never restored.
00:25Our journey started from the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad.
00:29We are on a bus and going to Muzaffarabad, where we will meet our private driver.
00:33While nervously thinking about the road, the bus stopped.
00:36And the man with a camera asked all passengers to lower their masks.
00:40Then started recording our faces for further identity checks.
00:47We reached the zero point of danger.
00:50Here we go.
00:51A journey which will take roughly between 12 to 15 hours.
00:54This is the time for only from here to our starting point in Gilgit.
00:58After Gilgit, we are planning to reach Ferry Meadows by taking the world's most dangerous road.
01:04The total time is approximately 24 hours.
01:08Right now, we are at the Karakurum Highway.
01:12It was built as a trading route by the cooperation of Pakistan and China in 1960s and 70s.
01:17It connects Islamabad city of Pakistan and Kashgar city of China and is very dangerous.
01:23More than 1,000 workers have lost their life during the construction of the road.
01:28Rain makes it even more slippery.
01:33There are landslides constantly.
01:41Even at the beginning, we are seeing signs to turn back.
01:44While we are going forward with the danger of a rock falling on us at any time,
02:00vehicles coming by are waiting for us to pass through this narrowed part of the road.
02:04We are hoping that what we are seeing here won't happen to us.
02:12A rock falls on our car.
02:33We see a military car going 15 minutes ahead of us has fallen from the cliff.
02:38Now, an ambulance just came here.
02:51There are casualties in this fresh accident.
02:54That's how near the end is.
03:00The car rolled down from the spot he is pointing at and people lost their lives.
03:05They are taken out of the car one by one.
03:08A rock may roll down from here.
03:16Lots of rocks are rolling down.
03:18You will see the points where rocks fell onto steel barriers and smashed them into pieces.
03:23We are at risk just for staying here.
03:25A rock might fall on us.
03:26There is a leak in our tire.
03:33A nail penetrated through.
03:35We see a huge rock that fell a few minutes ago, waiting to be removed.
03:45We see a rock fell on the road.
03:47You see a rock fell there.
03:48Loaded tracks narrow the road even further.
03:59A rock just fell on the car's front window.
04:02Pakistan is a mountain country.
04:04Four of the world's 14 mountains exceeding 26,000 feet are in this region.
04:09Overcoming them requires patience, talent and nerves of steel.
04:13Floods and puddles are not getting drained from bumpy roads that have no drains.
04:21The road has collapsed.
04:23Our stomachs feel sick while going through collapsed roads.
04:34Our car with a flat right rear tire pulls to the right.
04:41Since we could not have it patched, it is pumped air into as a temporary solution.
04:46This is such a torture.
04:48And another incident.
04:50People have been trying to fix the road by patching it with their bare hands for 20 minutes.
04:55At this time we hope that no rocks fall on us from the hill.
05:04While vehicles pass through, one of them usually goes backward and finds a place to hide in order to give way.
05:34We are seeing a third accident in Karakrum today and we haven't even reached the most dangerous part yet.
05:48All of this shows us what a gamble we are playing against our lives.
05:52And fear makes our stomachs even sicker.
05:55Get some fresh air.
05:59Fast flowing streams and steep mountain slopes.
06:10Karakrum is full of dangers.
06:12Sites that we see on the road fascinate us and are simply baiting us to danger with their beauty.
06:21We have a bit of fun, funny.
06:28We have a bit of fun, funny.
06:30We have a bit of fun, funny.
06:49Oh!
06:50Finally we passed.
06:53We are on such a road that going through the most dangerous road without experiencing this one,
06:57will be a half story because this is a whole another danger by itself.
07:01We saw people falling down, having accidents on these roads.
07:04We are in the void.
07:10We came to the end of the road which we started at 11 in the morning and almost after 12 hours.
07:15Now the time is 10.53 pm.
07:17The real journey will start after the night.
07:19We'll sleep, gather our energy back and hit the world's most dangerous road.
07:24We came to the hotel we will be staying at.
07:27This is the toilet area.
07:29As you can see there are spider webs everywhere.
07:32Many insects stuck into them.
07:34They put a mishwax there which is a teeth cleaning twig.
07:37It seems like every guest is using the same mishwax because this is the used one.
07:42It is a disgusting toilet.
07:43It will be a hard night.
07:47Now this road is so dangerous that our driver cannot drive on this road.
07:51Actually you saw that he is a really good driver with great reflexes.
07:55But this road isn't for every driver.
07:57He loses his driver title on this road.
07:59He will as well be a passenger with us.
08:02Is it really a big problem?
08:05Big problem.
08:06So we will try our luck.
08:07We will stick our camera here.
08:09You don't have a seat belt right?
08:23Yes.
08:34Here we go as the safety barrier is lifted.
08:37We are holding our breath.
08:47Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
08:49As you see it is not an asphalt road neither steel barriers nor asphalt in case of land
09:08sites or rock falls from the above there are no protections against we're just going at random
09:13fairy meadows path that leaves from karakrum highway will lead us to tattoo village with
09:18narrow climbings last stop is fairy meadows a site from heavens reach by passing through the clouds
09:24at 10 800 feet many adventurers who wanted to see there have lost their lives on the road
09:32this road has so many ups and downs that our neck muscles are tired to keep our heads stable it is like we're
09:50going on the terrain not on the road they could just not build the road as well we are at the starting
09:55point right now we haven't reached the dangers yet villagers of the ninth biggest mountain in the
10:00world nanga parpat opened this road and ever since it hasn't been repaired our driver should keep his
10:08eyes on the road constantly while going on this road that buried many people in its holes before
10:14this three hour long 16.2 kilometer gravel path is such a road that sometimes memorials of the people
10:21that fell down and has lost their lives can be seen at the accident points we hope not to see one and
10:27keep our motivation alive look down guys there isn't any protection also the wind is starting to pick up
10:34a little there are no precautions to prevent a car falling down from cliffs and bursting into flames
10:42as you can already see we are going on rocks a landslide doesn't only make a rock fall on our heads
10:47it also may cause us to fall down we began to go on really narrow paths the adrenaline levels are getting
10:54higher now the world's most dangerous road below us are cliffs if the car falls it might blow up but we
11:10definitely lose our life too risky incredibly risky look at these roads it looks even more threatening from
11:20the side there is no protection there a landslide has cleared away everything on its path
11:28we are in the clouds we will climb even higher we are actually at the beginning of the road yet there's
11:33no phone signal if anything happens to us here we can't reach anyone there's no one here this path is a
11:39deadly one locals call it the gray road i hope that it won't be our graves road this is a bizarre
11:45experience we climbed up these mountains we have a long road ahead it is windy raining and they say it
11:51will start to snow but you see we are in a natural beauty
12:05the weather gets even worse our jeep is stuck on the road
12:24the weather gets even worse after a small fix we continue our journey
12:54wind and rain got worse so rocks may fall on us i just want to finish this road as soon as possible
13:08here leaving this moment is equal to holding your breath every second pounds of our hands and soles
13:13of our feet are sweating at every turn
13:16you'll hear these kind of horns at the blind spots in sharp turns the driver is trying to warn other
13:24drivers that we are coming to a fallen rock he pulls it away so the road won't be blocked
13:37it doesn't seem secure at all words aren't enough to define what we are experiencing even these
13:44footages cannot express the situation enough as we go past narrow bands we close our eyes not to see
13:53cliffs beginning just near the tires of the car if anything goes wrong for example a five cent gasket
14:00fails everything is over
14:02i hope we won't get stuck here there's a problem with the car
14:14the drone switched to autopilot and hit one of the rocks
14:36looks awful while getting through these rocks it signaled connection was lost when it lost connection
14:41it switched to return back home mode in return back home mode it couldn't adjust itself its height
14:47it didn't rise at the point it should have while going straight it hit one of these hills i'm breathless
14:52but at least we can see the recordings inside for now nothing happened to us it is good to be alive
15:00we downright get beaten by the car during the journey we take a hit at every roughness
15:06from place to place the road gets so narrow that we get off from the jeep to check if our vehicle can
15:12go through look something may fall from above as you see we just want to finish this journey as soon
15:17as possible we also cannot go back there aren't many places for vehicles to take a u-turn but just look
15:23at the natural beauty look at that tree it somehow grew horizontally the rock is slippery very wet
15:36this curbness on the bridge is a result of a rock that has fallen from above since it became
15:41impossible to use we'll go around the narrow of turn i asked them to stop they didn't want to stay here
15:48as there is a big risk of rock falls
15:53at this point the path becomes too narrow for the jeep to pass so we'll continue on food
15:59very cold outside
16:20here is tatu village people have been living here for a long time now the grandchildren of that old
16:26civilization are here after this village there isn't any other settlement
16:33we will walk approximately three hours passing hillsides we might see lots of mountain goats on
16:38our way you see there is snow the weather is very cold it is around 36 degrees fahrenheit or
16:45two degrees celsius as we get wet we will feel more cold people live longer in tatu village since the
16:51altitude is high their lungs are wider than ours their organs have developed depending on that if a
16:56person dies at 80 or 90 years old it is considered as he or she died young for us 80 90 is an old age
17:05for 30 minutes we walked a little and climbed some a group of goats
17:09they are very strong animals beers are seen here as well from time to time but their numbers are
17:20decreasing every year we are actually shrinking their habitats
17:23we are on our horses we are heading to fairy meadows on horseback we paid those guys 5 000 rupees for the
17:42horses which is roughly 67 dollars we will both go and come back with their horses if the horses feel
17:48uncomfortable with us or if we mislead them it may cause us to fall from the cliffs
17:55it got a little fast look for instance it tends to that way on its own if the man wasn't holding
18:00it could go there if the horse's foot goes into a hole or it makes a false step we may completely get toppled
18:07just look at here a slightest mistake equals to that
18:19we are going by chance it is crucial that we keep our control on horses and keep them calm
18:30since we are staying still on the horses this causes us to feel even more cold
18:35our horses are resting how do you feel my fingertips are completely numb when i switch on and off the
18:42camera i don't feel i'm turning the bottom
18:47as it can be told by the snow we got even closer to the top we have 30 minutes of distance left
18:56road has become even steeper if you hit this road one day you will need to bring plenty of courage with you
19:05it is now tricky here
19:25i hope it doesn't take a wrong step these roads we took for the sake of the view cost
19:31us almost 24 hours it has cost some adventurers a lifetime
19:41many hotels have settled here of course horses food might slip here we are in the mud
19:51can you hear the horse breathing heavily
19:53of course it is surely tired we finally reached fairy meadows here is fairy meadows
20:04we got wet we are soaking and this makes everything even harder for sure
20:08we are in a unique place like this they open some space inside for us to get warm
20:30afghan we will dry ourselves here and then we will continue our journey
20:40my fingers are numb too they gave us some tea now our insides will get warmer as well as our bodies
20:57we can't see the view but the feeling here is really special
21:11in order to see this place a five hour bus ride from lahore city to capital islamabad
21:17to gilgit region from that region three hours of journey with the jeep through the world's most
21:30dangerous road after that 30 minutes of trekking and two hours of horseback climbing and we finally
21:37reached the fairy meadows we brought one gopro two mirrorless cameras six lenses and one drone for
21:44filming this video our drone tore into pieces on the road besides traveling costs and the problems
21:49that we faced a huge effort was put in this video with editing and animation process it took a whole
21:55month for the project to come to you we came to the end of the world's most dangerous road finally
22:00we're at the top it climax nature is very beautiful here pakistan is a very different country it also
22:06contains one of the most beautiful landscapes hospitality of pakistani people were amazing thank you for
