Panama Canal introduces first hybrid tugboats in emission reduction bid

Panama Canal authorities committed to gradually reducing carbon emissions in the interoceanic route's operations by putting their first two hybrid tugboats into service. As part of the commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) began replacing the 45 diesel-powered tugboats that assist ships during their transit through the canal, which handles a significant percentage of global maritime trade.
