00:00How are you? What will make a success of this summit today?
00:05I can't tell you that. I don't know. There's nothing set in stone. I want certain things.
00:12I want to see a ceasefire. This is not to do with Europe. Europe's not telling me what to do.
00:18But they're going to be involved in the process, obviously, as will Zelensky.
00:22But I want to see a ceasefire rapidly. I don't know if it's going to be today,
00:25but I'm not going to be happy if it's not today. Everyone said it can't be today.
00:30But I'm just saying I want the killing to stop. I'm in this to stop the killing.
00:34You know, we're not putting up any money. We're making money.
00:38They're buying our weapons and we're sending them to NATO and NATO's sending us big, beautiful checks.
00:43But I don't care about that. I care about it was a big factor when Biden spent $350 billion and got nothing.
00:50But what I do care about is they lost, last week, 7,011 people were lost, almost all soldiers.
01:00Thirty-six people in a town which got hit by a missile.
01:04But 7,000, over 7,000 soldiers. It's crazy.
01:09Could you describe a little bit, Mr. President, because I know you've had a lot of phone calls with President Putin.
01:15What's the difference in a face-to-face in-person meeting?
01:18Look, he's a smart guy. Been doing it for a long time, but so have I. Been doing it for a long time.
01:26And here we are. We're president.
01:29That was much more difficult than what I'm doing today, believe me.
01:33So we get along. There's a good respect level on both sides.
01:38And I think, you know, something's going to come of it.
01:40I notice he's bringing a lot of business people from Russia.
01:43And that's good. I like that, because they want to do business, but they're not doing business until we get the worst out of it.
01:49Are you going to talk about business?
01:50We have the hottest country on earth.
01:54We have the hottest economy on earth.
01:56We have the hottest company in your country.
01:58We just set a new stock market record again.
02:01We have hundreds of billions of dollars flowing in from tariffs.
02:06We're the hottest country.
02:07We were a dead country, a dead like doornails, a dead country.
02:12One year ago, we were dead as a doornail.
02:15And now we have the hottest country.
02:17And he wants a piece of that, because his country is not hot economically.
02:22In fact, it's the opposite.
02:23And China's not doing well economically.
02:26But we're all, look, I want everybody to do well.
02:30The war's going to stop and the killing's got to stop.
02:33Mr. President, what do you mean by saying your thoughts?
02:35Thank you for coming back to take questions.
02:37We saw that Russia continued its violence into Ukraine last night, launching even more drones.
02:42What did you make of that?
02:43I think they're trying to negotiate.
02:46He's trying to set a stage.
02:48I mean, in his mind, that helps him make a better deal.
02:51It actually hurts him.
02:53But in his mind, that helps him make a better deal, if they can continue the killing.
02:59Maybe it's a part of the world.
03:00Maybe it's just his fabric, his genes, his genetics.
03:04But he thinks that makes him, gives him strength in negotiating.
03:08I think it hurts him, but I'll be talking to him about it later.
03:11If you're on the table for discussions today, Mr. President, are the territorial swaps on the table?
03:18Will you be discussing that?
03:19They'll be discussed, but I've got to let Ukraine make that decision.
03:23And I think they'll make a proper decision.
03:25But I'm not here to negotiate for Ukraine.
03:28I'm here to get him at a table.
03:29And I think you have two sides.
03:32Look, Vladimir Putin wanted to take all of Ukraine.
03:36If I wasn't president, he would right now be taking all of Ukraine.
03:40But he's not going to do it.
03:41Mr. President, what did you think?
03:43Just one thing.
03:45What about the possibility of the United States providing security guarantees to Ukraine?
03:51Maybe along with Europe and other countries, not in the form of NATO, because that's not going to, you know, there are certain things that aren't going to happen.
03:59But yeah, along with Europe, there's a possibility of the number of business people that President Putin is bringing along.
04:07Is that something that you want to discuss with President Putin at this meeting?
04:11If we if we make progress, I would discuss it, because that's one of the things that they would like.
04:17They'd like to get a piece of what I built in terms of the economy.
04:20Just so you know, we were a dead country with our economy.
04:25He wouldn't be interested.
04:26He wouldn't have been interested a year ago with the Biden economy.
04:29But he is interested in the Trump economy because we're doing it.
04:33Wait till you see where those factories start opening up.
04:36We have hundreds of factories all over the country.
04:38And that includes auto factories, AI factories and every other thing.
04:43They're all coming in because they want to beat the tariffs.
04:46Because if they open here, they don't have to pay tariffs.
04:49If they don't open here, they have to pay, in some cases, 200 percent, 300 percent.
04:55I haven't even set some of the tariffs yet.
04:57But I'll be setting tariffs next week and the week after on steel and on, I would say, chips.
05:07Okay.
05:07Steel and large chips.
05:09Chips and semiconductors we'll be setting sometime next week, week after.
05:14What are you looking at?
05:15What rate?
05:17I'm going to have a rate that is going to be lower at the beginning.
05:21Then that gives them a chance to come in and bill.
05:24And very high after a certain period of time.
05:27And if they don't build here, they have to pay a very high tariff, which doesn't work.
05:31So they'll come and bill.
05:32Mr. President, hi.
05:33You had said earlier.
05:37He's helping me out.
05:41He's a very nice.
05:42He's one of the few nice ones.
05:43You had said earlier this week that Putin would face severe consequences if you get the sense from him that he's not interested.
05:49What do you mean by that?
05:51Economically severe.
05:52Yes, it will be very severe.
05:53I'm not doing this for my health.
05:55Okay.
05:56I don't need it.
05:57I'd like to focus on our country.
05:59But I'm doing this to save a lot of lives.
06:01Yeah, very severe.
06:02Thank you very much, everybody.
