00:10Nestled in Sikkim's Pakyong district, this scenic hamlet has been declared a haven for remote workers
00:15under the Nomad Sikkim Project, a joint initiative between the Pakyong district administration,
00:20NGO Sarwahite and the government of Sikkim.
00:23The first of its kind initiative aims to transform remote Himalayan villages
00:26into global digital work hubs, offering tech professionals and creatives an escape from the kiosk.
00:31But this isn't just about lifestyle.
00:34The goal is to create sustainable year-round income for local homestay owners and communities
00:37by turning picturesque and offbeat locations into remote work destinations.
00:42And the timing couldn't be better.
00:44According to the 2025 State of Digital Nomads report by Nomad List,
00:481.7 million Indians, that's roughly 2% of the global nomad community, now combine work with travel.
00:54Yakteen itself has changed dramatically over the years.
00:57Once isolated by patchy roads and limited infrastructure,
01:00it now boasts high-speed Wi-Fi, reliable power backup and upgraded homes with work-friendly amenities.
01:06Globally, the idea is catching on.
01:08From Chiang Mai in Thailand to Porto de Sol in Portugal and now Yakteen in India,
01:13digital nomad villages are becoming key tools to revive rural economies and reimagine modern work life.
01:18And for Yakteen, the journey has just begun.
