Under new owners Fosun International, the club surged upwards, winning the Championship in 2017/18 and establishing themselves as a Premier League mainstay. By 2020, Wolves had achieved consecutive seventh-place finishes, reached an FA Cup semi-final, and made it to the Europa League quarter-finals.  This rise was backed by significant investment, with Wolves making a number of high-profile signings to strengthen the squad. While many have been successful, some marquee purchases failed to meet expectations.

00:00Well, the Hampton Wunderers have undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade.

00:08In the 2015-16 season, Wolves languished in 14th place in the Championship,

00:13having only climbed up from the third tier two seasons earlier.

00:17The Suns are new Fosun owners.

00:20The club surged upwards, winning the Championship in 2017-18

00:24and establishing themselves as a Premier League mainstay.

00:27By 2020, Wolves had achieved consecutive 7th place finishes,

00:32reaching an FA Cup semi-final and made it to the Europa League quarter-finals.

00:38This rise was backed by significant investment,

00:41with Wolves making a number of high-profile signings to strengthen the squad.

00:46While many have been successful, some marquee purchases failed to meet expectations.

00:53Perhaps the most criticised was Fabio Silva,

00:56first time for a club record of £35 million from Porto.

01:00Silva struggled to justify the fee, scoring just five goals in 73 games.

01:05Since 2023, after being given the number nine shirt,

01:08he's been loaned out four times and looks set for a cup price sale this summer.

01:13Another disappointment was Gronkalo Guedes acquired for £27.5 million from Valencia.

01:21Despite a promising reputation, he only scored three Premier League goals in 42 games

01:26and has since moved permanently to Real Sociedad for just £3.5 million.

01:31Kizana Huyeva arrived from Liverpool in 2020 amid high hopes but struggled to impress

01:39and faced criticism from former manager Bruno Large.

01:44Meanwhile, towering striker Sasa Kalajic signed in 2022 has been plagued by injuries

01:49but recently returned to pre-season action determined to make an impact.

01:53Other signings like John, Daddy Bob Varson and Paul Gladden failed to establish themselves

02:00and loan deals such as Willie and Jose and Jesus Faleo left little impression.
