00:00and welcome today we are putting on our detective hats because sonia and i are going to bust some
00:13of the most common myths out there you know those things everyone believes but aren't actually true
00:18sonia are you ready to expose some false beliefs oh absolutely deepak i love these kinds of
00:23discussions it's amazing how many things we just accept as true without ever checking i'm ready to
00:29find out what's fact and what's fiction all right let's start with a classic does cracking your
00:34knuckles cause arthritis everyone's heard this from their parents or elders right oh for sure
00:38my mom used to tell me this all the time she'd say don't crack your knuckles you'll get arthritis
00:43when you're older so is it true well studies have actually shown no direct link between knuckle
00:47cracking and arthritis the sound is just gas bubbles popping in your joint fluid it might annoy people
00:53around you but it won't give you arthritis that's a huge relief so all those years of worrying were
00:58for nothing good to know okay here's one i've always wondered about does reading in dim light
01:03damage your eyesight permanently another common one while reading in dim light can cause eye strain
01:07fatigue and maybe a headache there's no scientific evidence that it causes permanent damage to your
01:12vision your eyes just have to work harder to focus so it's uncomfortable but not harmful long
01:17term that's good to know i guess it's still better to have good lighting to avoid discomfort
01:21moving on to something many parents worry about does sugar make kids hyperactive this one is huge
01:26every time a kid has sweets people say oh they're going to be bouncing off the walls
01:30is there really a sugar rush research consistently shows that there's no direct physiological link
01:35between sugar intake and hyperactivity in children the perceived sugar rush is often more about the
01:40excitement of the occasion like a birthday party where sweets are served and parental expectation
01:45so it's more about the context than the sugar itself that's quite a revelation for many parents out
01:50there here's a classic that many of us in india might have heard will going out with wet hair in cold
01:55weather make you sick ah the classic thandi lagjaegi you'll catch a cold warning while getting cold
02:00and wet can make you uncomfortable viruses cause colds not cold weather your immune system might be
02:06slightly suppressed by extreme cold but the cold itself won't directly make you sick without a virus
02:11so basically you need a virus to get a cold not just wet hair good to know the real reason though
02:17i'll probably still blow dry my hair and that wraps up our myth busting session for today it's always
02:21great to separate fact from fiction and truly understand how things work absolutely deepak
