00:00Young founders in Silicon Valley are saying no to alcohol to lock in for grind mode.
00:05I spoke with nine young founders who told me the San Francisco startup scene was sobering up.
00:09Most had drastically cut back their drinking, opting for monthly glasses of wine or cutting
00:13out booze entirely. Alcohol consumption is declining across the country, especially among
00:18young people. In Silicon Valley, a work-hard, health-obsessed culture seems to have accelerated
00:22this shift. One founder told me he thinks alcohol is a poison that's incompatible with his 80-90
00:28hour work weeks. Another 26-year-old founder said that he's at the age where he wants to have a good
00:33morning the next day and that hard liquor feels like a detriment. All of the people I spoke to
00:37said they care deeply about their health. Some showed off their aura rings or listed their
00:41supplements and multiple referenced longevity influencer Brian Johnson. Some of the founders
00:46even said they were only San Francisco sober and drank more when they visited the UK or New York.
00:50What happened to Silicon Valley's party culture like in the social network? The founders I spoke
00:55two described a much drier scene. One said that house parties were filled with La Croix's and another
00:59compared them to Prohibition-era speakeasies. Across conversations with the nine young founders,
01:04one thing was clear. The next generation of tech is drinking less and less. To read more,
