00:02and you've got Lydney as well. What we call a dual attendant. There we go. So we're going to do a
00:11short display. We've got a vehicle on all four wheels. We've got one person trapped. They're
00:17medically and physically trapped. So we've got Ian Bayliss, watch manager from Lydney. He's doing
00:26a quick recce of the vehicle. He's looking for hazards. He's looking at what type of vehicle
00:31it is. If it's an electric vehicle, he'll have different considerations of what hazards will
00:37be involved in that vehicle. If it's a normal combustion engine vehicle, which is our standard
00:43bread and butter kind of vehicles that we go to, he'll have a different approach and different
00:47safety systems he'll have to put in place. Once we start pulling bits of the vehicle apart,
00:53then it's going to cause more destabilization and make it rock, make it move, which could
00:58then cause further injury to Hannah.
01:00Now Ian's going to come up with a plan of extrication, what we call a plan of extrication and see how
01:09we're going to get Hannah out of this vehicle. The crews that you've got here are all on-call
01:14crews. That means that they have other jobs in their daytime role and they turn out on an
01:20counter. So this technique is spreading the door off.
01:27It's imperative we have good communication between the crew members. So the person on the
01:36tool, using that tool, is a spreading or impact, ready for any large bang or movement to the vehicle
01:43that might occur as a result. At this phase, we've just finished the emergency access phase.
01:51So we've taken that front door off. So if Hannah's condition does deteriorate, we've got a plan
01:57straight away. So the cutting equipment that we're using at the moment, those have a cutting
02:04force of approximately about 20 tons. What we find in modern vehicles nowadays is the strengthening
02:12involved in cars. They've never been safer than they have been now. And they build pretty
02:17much a safety cell around the casualty, around the passengers. They use a lot of modern technology,
02:25a lot of modern materials, one of them being boron steel. That has a knock-on effect for
02:32us during an explication because it's harder to cut through. So we have to have the newest
02:38and most modern technology cutting gear we can get to cope with these different structures
02:46in vehicles. We have other systems on the vehicle as well to help us with these applications.
02:53So we have iPads on all fire appliances. On those iPads, we've got software that tells us
03:00about every vehicle on the road. We can type in a number plate and that will tell us exactly
03:05where the batteries are, where the strengthening are in the actual safety cell, what kind of
03:11propulsion unit is got. Is it electric? Is it hybrid? And all of the isolation points
03:16for those electrical systems. So this crew, there's a mixture of firefighters in development
03:26and competent firefighters. What they do is they have a week of solid RTC training. So they
03:33literally cut up one or two cars per day with different techniques, different styles of cars,
03:40different quality locations in those vehicles.
04:03The metal cutters that we've got are fantastic going through metal. The thing that messes them
04:09up more than anything is going through soft fabric because it goes between the two blades and
04:14pushes the blades apart. It doesn't actually cut the fabric. It just pushes the blades apart.
04:18So you can cut tons and tons of metal, put a pair of trousers in between them and that's it.
04:24It's no good.
04:26So it can be very, very challenging at times. Fitness is definitely necessary. So now we've got full access to the casualty. We'll make a safe environment for them. So we're going to cover up those sharps around the vehicle just to make sure it's safe for us.
04:33So we're moving into the final transition. It's a lot like a game of chess, really. You have to have a consideration to make sure it's safe for us.
04:40So Ian's thinking a couple of steps ahead of what's happening at this particular point. If he hasn't got somebody to reach out to be able to reach out to be able to reach out to be able to reach out to be able to reach out to be able to reach out to be able to reach out.

05:15aim to get Hannah from the point of impact the time she has this this crash this incident to a
05:22hospital within 60 minutes so that puts a lot of time constraint onto this explication so you have
05:28to be very very rushed but in a controlled manner okay again lots of communication from the person
05:40on the head we may have to move control of that between a number of crew members throughout this
05:46part of the application and there we go
