Visible from space: Vesuvius fire has three fronts still active, firefighters continue battle

Satellite photos show the column of smoke rising from the Vesuvius National Park all the way over the Bay of Naples. Three firefronts remain active. Canadairs, helicopters and dozens of volunteer teams remain deployed.

00:00Firefighters continued battling flames on Italy's Mount Vesuvius on Sunday,
00:07as a wildfire that started Friday continued to burn.
00:12Satellite images of the Gulf of Naples showed the fire was visible from space,
00:17with a long white plume rising from one side of the volcano.
00:22Since the early hours of Sunday, six planes and four helicopters have been involved,
00:27in addition to 15 teams of civil protection volunteers.
00:32Vesuvius National Park authorities said the volcano's trail network had been closed for safety reasons
00:37and to facilitate firefighting and clean-up operations in the areas affected.
