00:00What's going on, guys? My name is Wade with Tech Daily, and in this video, we are checking out the

00:05brand new Techno Spark 40 Pro Plus. Now, if you don't know Techno, they actually make all sorts

00:11of phones, including a tri-folding foldable, if you're into that sort of stuff, but their bread

00:17and butter is budget devices. Well, budget when it comes to price, at least. Not so budget when it

00:23comes to features. Techno actually announced three new smartphones for their 40 series lineup. The

00:28regular Spark, the Spark 40 Pro, and this Pro Plus, and each one has a great price-to-feature ratio

00:35that really makes any one of them enticing. But, as you might expect, this 40 Pro Plus here has the

00:42best specs, the most features, and a couple of new things that set it apart in the 40 series trio.

00:48Techno actually gives us a sneak peek at a couple of the things that make this phone special, but

00:53I'm going to go over everything you need to know in this video. First things first, let's just quickly

00:58unbox it. There's actually a bunch of stuff that comes included with this phone, and then I'll fill

01:02you in on all the details. Yanking off the lid, the first thing you'll see is a pretty thick packet

01:07with Techno Spark etched on it. Kind of nice. And inside here is just a ton of stuff. You get a full

01:13library of paperwork to read through, along with some instructions that show you how to install an

01:18included tempered glass screen protector. And this is a really nice screen protector too. Curved edges to

01:24match the phone and everything. For additional protection, Techno also includes this case with a very

01:29obvious MagSafe-esque wireless charging target area. That's a standout feature for this phone too, by the way.

01:36And here is the phone itself. Again, showcasing a bunch of its specs, which I'll break down in just a moment.

01:42At the bottom of the box, there's even more. You get a little SIM ejector tool, of course. You also get both a 45-watt

01:49wall plug, and a color-coordinated, orange-accented USB charging cable. All in all, a really impressive

01:55unboxing experience. With all that stuff out of the way, here is the new Spark 40 Pro Plus once again.

02:01Now, unfortunately, though I'm sure not surprising, this phone won't be sold in the U.S. But for Europe,

02:08Asia, Africa, South America, and plenty of other places, you'll be able to snag one of Techno's new

02:1440 series phones. And while it's technically the most expensive in the lineup, this 40 Pro Plus

02:20feels like a steal at around $214 with some wiggle room for currency conversions.

02:27So at first glance, I think it's pretty obvious that Techno has done a really nice job making this

02:33phone look high-end and premium, especially from the front. And there are a few physical aspects of

02:38this phone that make it unique right away. Size-wise, this is a pretty big 6.7-inch device.

02:44That's the screen size corner-to-corner. And while Techno seems to be trying to hide the black bezels

02:49there with the default wallpaper, I don't think they need to. This phone has a great screen-to-body

02:53ratio with thin, even borders all around. In addition, the front display glass is also a curved Gorilla Glass

03:007i. Techno says it's a 48-degree golden curvature, whatever that means. But it's been a long time since

03:07I've seen a new phone come out with a curved display. Some people say they've been missing it,

03:11and I'm quickly remembering the appeal. The curve isn't enough to distort the display or mess with

03:16your grip, but it is enough to make this phone feel super thin in your hand. The thin sides allow a

03:21better reach across its big display, and the sides contour down into this super thin edge. Speaking of

03:27edge, well, I'll just present this comparison without much additional commentary. The 40 Pro Plus is

03:33allegedly 6.49 millimeters thin, and thin seems to be in. Around back, my Spark 40 Pro Plus is in the

03:42moon titanium shade. The back cover feels like plastic to me, which isn't surprising, but it's a

03:47nice-looking phone from the rear too, and sort of looks metal-like. And Techno says this phone is IP64

03:53water and dust resistant. Taking a look around, there's nothing on the left side of the phone. On the

03:58right, regular old volume and power buttons. Up top, a couple mystery holes, maybe a mic hole and

04:04something else. At the bottom, the primary loudspeaker alongside the USB-C port and SIM card tray. No

04:10headphone jack, unfortunately, but dual physical SIM support and micro SD card support. You have a

04:16choice of either 128 gigabytes of storage or 256. And frankly, there are a few non-essential and third

04:23party apps that clutter up the phone a little bit out of the box, but it's not the worst I've seen.

04:27Around back, you have, well, three circles that actually make up just one camera lens. More on

04:34that in a moment. There's your selfie camera, of course, up front and a secondary loudspeaker up top

04:39as well. And underneath the display, this phone does have an optical in-display fingerprint sensor.

04:45This is a nice addition for a budget device, honestly, and paired with face unlock, you can get into the

04:49phone very quickly. Another standout feature on the 40 Pro Plus in particular is its display. Aside from

04:55just being big, the specs are really wild. This 6.78-inch screen is an AMOLED panel with what

05:02Tecno calls a 1.5K resolution, 2712 by 1220 for some 439 pixels per inch. And it supports up to a

05:11144Hz refresh rate. Those specs are just not something you see on phones even in the $500 to $600 range,

05:19let alone the $200-ish range this phone falls within. And it's probably the biggest value proposition for

05:25this phone in my opinion. The screen really looks great, and it's bright too. Tecno claims 4,500 nits

05:31of peak brightness. And there's also a couple screen color adjustments you can make if you want a warmer

05:36or cooler tone or adjust the saturation levels. There's also the high refresh rate settings you

05:41might want to mess with. While the display supports 144Hz, like I mentioned, not every app does, but some do.

05:48Most other apps support some high refresh rate, obviously. But regardless, the phone feels fast,

05:53and visually it looks very smooth. Like I said, I feel like the screen is the top reason to consider

05:59this phone regardless of anything else. To pair with that, Tecno does give you a dual speaker setup,

06:05one bigger main one at the bottom, the secondary one in the earpiece there. Tecno says these are

06:10Dolby Atmos speakers, and they do sound pretty good, even cranked all the way up.

06:23Inside this new Spark 40 Pro Plus is actually an all-new processor. It's the first phone with the

06:37MediaTek Helio G200 chipset, a 6 nanometer chip with improved graphics performance over the previous,

06:43and it's paired to 8 gigabytes of physical RAM, but that extra 8 gigabytes of extended RAM they like

06:49to advertise. Now, I literally just pulled this phone out of the box, so I don't have too much

06:54experience with the processor yet. Stay tuned for a full review and maybe some speed tests. But here

06:59are the Geekbench scores, so you can at least compare some numbers. Now, there's always some

07:03hesitation when introducing new budget or mid-range chipsets. Some people feel it just makes more

07:09sense to use a one- or two-year-old top-tier processor instead, but I feel like new is good.

07:15New is appropriate for a new phone, and especially one that's dubbed both a Pro and a Plus. I also

07:22feel that this phone is going to need as much power as possible given Tecno's current pivot to AI

07:27features within their HiOS. There's AI writing and reading assistance, AI photo editing, circle to

07:33search of course, AI interpretation within photos like translating text and answering questions or

07:38solving problems, AI call assistant, and a whole lot more. How will this new processor handle all that

07:44AI? Well, we'll find out soon enough. I'm excited to put this phone to the test in the coming days.

07:48I do hope it holds up because it seems like Tecno incorporated so many great other features within

07:54this phone, so I really want the performance to be just as good as everything else. The battery

07:59inside this phone is also good. Even though the phone itself is very thin, Tecno still crammed a 5200

08:07milliamp battery inside, slightly larger than average, and they packed in two fast charging

08:12features, 45 watt wired charging and 30 watt magnetic wireless charging. You can snag one of

08:18Tecno's mag base accessories or use any other wireless chargers, but this is another feature you just

08:24don't get on a lot of budget and even some mid-range phones nowadays. Last but not least, we've got to talk

08:31about those cameras. Or camera. Even though there's three black circles, there's only one actual camera

08:39lens, a 50 megapixel main shooter. I honestly don't know what the other two circles are. One is maybe a

08:45sensor or some sort of auxiliary lens. The other one looks blank, like a blank button on a car for a

08:51feature you didn't buy. This, yeah, I'm not a big fan of this. And a few companies are doing this right

08:57now. Just faking a multi-lens camera setup, which, like, I get it, but I don't, you know? The selfie

09:03camera is a 13 megapixel shooter, and inside the camera app, Tecno is once again utilizing a lot of

09:09AI for both the regular everyday pictures and their AI portrait feature that makes you look, well,

09:16different. There's a handful of other camera features tossed in. There's a 50 megapixel picture

09:20mode. You can film up to 2k video, but otherwise, not a ton to talk about camera-wise. No wireless,

09:27wide angle, no telephoto, which I suppose I wouldn't expect, but this is a Pro Plus phone

09:33after all, so it's surprising to me that Tecno isn't going big with camera features. On the flip

09:39side, maybe they just realized that most of the camera stuff doesn't get used by people every single

09:44day, and they'd rather have a crazy high-spec screen or way faster charging or a brand new

09:50processor instead, which actually is an argument I could understand. This new Tecno Spark 40 Pro Plus

09:56to me does seem really enticing. I mean, at a bare minimum, you get a great display, you get a good

10:02sized battery with fast charging options, all within a form factor that's slim and sleek and

10:08good looking, and the price point is a fraction of what some phones cost nowadays with lesser specs
