00:00Hey guys, in this video I'll be taking you through how to set up and use the iPhone 16e.
00:05As a reminder, the iPhone 16e is a later addition to the iPhone 16 lineup, offering some flagship
00:10level features for a lower starting price of $599.
00:14If you picked one up, here's what you're going to want to know about getting started, including
00:18some settings I'd recommend changing and features worth trying first.
00:23Set up your iPhone 16e, first you're going to want to make sure your current phone is
00:26properly backed up. You can check this by going to Settings, Your Name, iCloud, and iCloud Backup.
00:36If you're all set, power your new phone on and follow the prompts to select the language.
00:40Connect to Wi-Fi, then I'm going to highly suggest using the Quick Start.
00:44Bring your old phone nearby to initiate setup. Just note that your current device needs to be running
00:49at least iOS 12.4 for this to work. All your data should transfer over to your new iPhone. It will
00:55take a little depending on how many photos and apps you have, so just be a little patient. That said,
01:00you could also skip all of this and just set up your iPhone as a new iPhone. Start from scratch,
01:06just have your Apple ID information at the ready, and follow the on-screen prompts.
01:12Before we move on, I want to point out that I've done a full iPhone 16e review already on this channel.
01:17I'll make sure it's linked so you can check it out. And for those who are here for the first time,
01:21this channel is all about helping you make the most out of your tech. So make sure to subscribe
01:25to never miss a new video. Back to how to set up your iPhone 16e. You might be wondering what
01:32settings should change right away. Some things I recommend are making sure you have a passcode
01:37and face ID set to keep your device secure. Similarly, make sure you have Find My enabled.
01:44On a less serious note, now would be a good time to customize your iPhone home and lock screens.
01:49We've showed how this works in other episodes of Setup Essentials before,
01:53but basically just hold down anywhere in the home screen, hit edit. You can add widgets,
01:58customize the app style and colors.
02:11On the lock screen, again, you can customize the looks, the widgets, play around with whatever you like.
02:19Next, curate your control center. You can add shortcuts to your most important apps and features.
02:28You can even adjust the size of the controls. Other things that people typically like to change
02:33are the text size. You can make it bigger and easier to see. Check out all the accessibility
02:40settings too. You might find some features that improve your personal iPhone user experience.
02:45A feature that's unique to the iPhone 16 experience is the action button. Now, the action button
02:52actually first debuted with the iPhone 15 Pro, then expanded to the whole iPhone 16 family. But if
02:58you're watching this video, I'm guessing you're seeing it for the first time. It's this new button
03:02on the left side of the phone that replaced the volume switch you might have had before. During initial
03:07setup, you were prompted to sign the action button as a function. But in case you didn't understand at the
03:12time, what you're going to do is open settings, action button, and here you can see all the different
03:18things the action button can do. If you liked it as a silent mode switch, you can just use that
03:23function. But check out the options. A camera launcher, a voice memory recorder, you can even get Shazam,
03:29translate, things you might want to access quickly. You can take things to the next level by assigning the
03:35action button to a shortcut. We showed you how to do that in our video on using ChatGPT on iPhone. I'll link it here so
03:42you can go check it out. Another thing that might be new for you as an iPhone 16 user is Apple
03:48Intelligence. Again, it's available only in the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 as far as iPhones go. So here's
03:54where you're going to get started. In settings, go to Apple Intelligence and Siri. Get Apple Intelligence.
04:00Now some of the features you'll want to try out is writing tools. Three apps that really highlight
04:05writing tools are notes, pages, and mail. To access writing tools, if you're going to highlight any given
04:10text, it can be a couple sentences, paragraphs, even pages, and then right click on writing tools.
04:17Next, try photo cleanup. If you have unwanted people or objects in your picture,
04:21tap the adjustments button here. Select cleanup.
04:30Last thing here, and I know I already mentioned it, using ChatGPT with Siri. In the Apple Intelligence
04:35settings, scroll down to ChatGPT and enable it if you'd like. You can sign into your ChatGPT account.
04:41The note, if you're using the free version, you will be limited by how many queries ChatGPT can
04:46carry out through Siri on a daily basis. ChatGPT Plus costs $19.99 per month, and you can start your
04:52subscription right here. For the camera, there are a few things I think worth setting up. For starters,
04:58I like enabling the grid and level to make my framing easier. To do this, go to Settings, Camera,
05:04and then scroll down to hit the toggle for Grid and Level. The grid lets me better frame an image,
05:09while the level ensures that they're not too crooked. Another setting worth changing is the format for
05:14photos. You can do this by clicking Format and then choosing the most compatible. This saves photos in
05:19JPEG format as opposed to HEIF, while videos are saved as H.264 instead of HEVC. This makes them more
05:27compatible with different types of editing software. One last thing to note on iPhone 16e,
05:32since it lacks MagSafe, I highly recommend getting a MagSafe case. Trust me, it makes things a lot
05:38easier, like accessing standby mode. And while we're at it, I would recommend getting a MagSafe wallet
05:43because it means carrying one less thing. If you made it through this whole video, I hope you've
05:47learned a thing or two about how to make the most out of your iPhone 16e. Let me know in the comments
05:52which new feature you're either looking forward to using or if you have the iPhone 16e already
05:58or enjoying the most. I'm John V and I'll see you in my next video.
