00:08:51Here's $1.00.
00:08:53How are you?
00:08:55Silly law-abatting jerk.
00:09:02How do you like that?
00:09:04He comes all the way out here just because he found it.
00:09:08You know, you ought to get a medal.
00:09:10So you don't go buy him a medal.
00:09:12Thanks. I got a medal.
00:09:18XGI, huh?
00:09:20Yes, I was in the Navy.
00:09:25I like him.
00:09:28I want to do something for him.
00:09:29Give him a saw, Buck.
00:09:32That's the trouble with you, Gino.
00:09:33You have no appreciation for honesty.
00:09:43Tell me something.
00:09:45What made you bring the wallet back?
00:09:48Well, I don't know.
00:09:50Now that I'm here, I wonder myself.
00:09:53I guess I'm just a sucker.
00:09:55I like that, too.
00:10:02Can you drive a car?
00:10:03Yes, sir.
00:10:05You got a job.
00:10:06What do you need two chauffeurs for?
00:10:08Fire or Claiborne.
00:10:09All right.
00:10:10No, wait a minute.
00:10:11I don't want to take another fellow's job.
00:10:14Take it easy, Jack.
00:10:15The name's Scott.
00:10:17Chuck Scott.
00:10:21Okay, Scotty.
00:10:24Hello, Fats.
00:10:25Fats, what do you do besides talking the telephone all the time?
00:10:29I've been trying to reach you for 45 minutes.
00:10:33Oh, never mind that.
00:10:34How about Johnson?
00:10:35Did you contact him yet?
00:10:37Or what's he still this time?
00:10:40Oh.
00:10:42I'll have him at my house for dinner Wednesday night.
00:10:46No, Fats.
00:10:47It's not Thursday, Wednesday.
00:10:48Yes?
00:11:08Right.
00:11:09Be right there.
00:11:10Thanks, Job.
00:11:10Oh, Job.
00:11:14Like in the Bible?
00:11:15Kings, Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Ezra, Job.
00:11:18Fine, I won't forget it.
00:11:19Bye.
00:11:19Come on, Tony.

00:11:41I won't forget it.

00:12:58Relax, Scotty. I take care of all that back here.
00:13:00You just handle the wheel.
00:13:02You mean you...
00:13:03That's right.
00:13:05Yes.
00:13:12He's right on time.
00:13:26Eddie, you don't know how he drives.
00:13:29We'll find out.
00:13:31Maybe not.
00:13:32We'll find out.
00:14:02We'll find out.
00:14:32How do you feel, Scotty?
00:14:38Fine.
00:14:39But I don't get it.
00:14:41Who does?
00:14:44He's all right.
00:14:45He's a good chauffeur.
00:14:47You're all right, Scotty.

00:15:02Well, Mr. Johnson, how do you like our little house?
00:15:05Oh, it's charming.
00:15:07However, I never thought I'd enjoy the pleasure of having dinner here.
00:15:10You know, Mr. Johnson had the idea I didn't like him.
00:15:15Just because he took away some of my business.
00:15:18I guess he doesn't know you too well.
00:15:20I must say there aren't many men would have taken it the way your husband has, Mrs. Roman.
00:15:27Live and let live.
00:15:28That's my motto.
00:15:34Isn't that so, Gino?
00:15:36Oh, the world is big enough for all of us.
00:15:39You too, Mr. Johnson.
00:15:43Well, thank you, Gino.
00:15:46I have a very interesting house too, in Havana.
00:15:49I'd be very pleased if you'd all come and visit me sometime.
00:15:52You've been in Havana, haven't you, Mrs. Roman?
00:15:54No, I've never been there.
00:15:56No, Mrs. Roman doesn't travel very much.
00:15:58Oh, I'm sorry.
00:15:59Doctor's orders?
00:16:01No, mine.
00:16:08Well, if you'll excuse me,
00:16:12I'll, uh, I'll let you go on with your business.
00:16:17Oh, uh, good night, Mr. Johnson.
00:16:20Good night, Mrs. Roman.
00:16:21It was nice meeting you.
00:16:24She's lovely, isn't she?
00:16:34Oh, she's beautiful.
00:16:37How about a little brandy?
00:16:38Well, I don't mind if I do.
00:16:42Where's Tommy?
00:16:43Oh, he behaved badly.
00:16:44I put him in a cellar.
00:16:47Oh, Tommy's a dog.
00:16:48It's a big dog.
00:16:49Oh, yes.
00:16:51I'm not drinking alone, am I?
00:16:52No.
00:16:53No.
00:16:53Mr. Roman,
00:16:55could I ask you a very personal question?
00:16:58Yes, of course.
00:17:00What is your business, really?
00:17:04Gino,
00:17:04what business would you say we were in, really?
00:17:08No, I'd say
00:17:10the amusement business.
00:17:13The amusement business?
00:17:15Yes.
00:17:16Strictly for last.
00:17:23All kidding aside, Mr. Johnson.
00:17:25I still want to buy those two ships of yours.
00:17:27But I don't want to sell.
00:17:28Oh, maybe we can talk you into it.
00:17:30What do you say, Mr. Johnson?
00:17:33Well, I'll think it over.
00:17:34Oh, no, that'll be too long.
00:17:36I can let you know tomorrow.
00:17:42No, tonight.
00:17:44Now.

00:18:08I've had a lovely evening,
00:18:11but I've got to run along.
00:18:12We can go into it further tomorrow.
00:18:13Oh, no, you can't go now, Mr. Johnson,
00:18:15without seeing the rest of the house.
00:18:16Well, you haven't even seen the upstairs.
00:18:18Or the wine cellar.
00:18:18Oh, we have a nice wine cellar.
00:18:20Well,
00:18:20I would like to see the wine cellar.
00:18:23Napoleon brandy.

00:18:32Oh, Gino, I don't believe it.

00:29:50Has she ever said anything to you about it?
00:29:55Why would she tell me?
00:29:59You've got the kind of face women like to talk to.
00:30:10No?
00:30:11No, I'll never find anything.
00:30:13My son has to talk to you about it.
00:30:15I've been the first at the High School of Murder at the House.
00:30:17I've always been to you for a long time for a long time,
00:30:21in the house.

00:30:26It's a part that we should.
00:30:28I think she is to play a little bit.
00:30:29I think she is a part of it.

00:32:22Found it in a wastebasket.
00:32:23What do you want me to do?
00:32:36Play the other side.
00:33:56I haven't played in a long time.
00:34:02Still scared?

00:34:22What's our first stop?
00:34:24Havana.

00:34:30That's what you wanted, wasn't it?
00:34:34I owe you a thousand dollars.
00:34:38Who did it belong to before?
00:34:48They don't ask you that when you spend it.
00:34:52They don't ask you that when you spend it.
00:34:54How long are they?
00:34:56That's it?
00:34:58How long are they?
00:35:00Maybe...
00:35:02There are two parts.
00:35:04I'll find it.
00:35:06I can't find it.
00:35:38Chuck.
00:35:49Chuck.
00:36:08Chuck.
00:36:09Chuck.
00:36:10Chuck.

00:36:30Chuck.
00:36:37Chuck.
00:36:38Chuck.
00:36:39Chuck.
00:36:40Ven acá!
00:36:41Ya he dicho que vengan acá!
00:36:42¡Vámonos!
00:36:46¡Vámonos a tomar un traguito!
00:36:48¡Vámonos, chicos! ¡Vámonos a tomar un traguito!
00:36:50¡Ven a dos años que se vayan!
00:37:10I love you, Charles.
00:37:19I love you, Lord.
00:37:30That's not our book.
00:37:32How much time do we have?
00:37:34Forget time.
00:37:37You think we'll make it?
00:37:41We've got to.
00:37:43Señor, el caballo no puede estar aquí toda la noche.
00:37:50What are we stopping here for?
00:37:52El caballo no puede estar aquí toda la noche.
00:37:54What was that?
00:37:55The horse is tired.
00:37:58Take us back to the boat.
00:38:02Did you hear me? Take us back to the boat.
00:38:04I already told you the horse is tired.
00:38:08Chuck, let's get out.
00:38:10Say, uh, our boat leaves in an hour for South America.
00:38:25How much of a walk is it from near the dock?
00:38:27I don't understand English.
00:38:29Let's go, Pancho.
00:38:34What did he say?
00:38:36Something about not understanding English.
00:38:41He must not understand money either.
00:38:44Didn't take his fare.
00:38:48Chuck, what do we do now?
00:38:49I don't know.
00:38:50I don't know.
00:38:58Let's get a drink.
00:39:01All right.
00:39:03No, wait a minute.
00:39:06We should go back to the boat.
00:39:09Who's afraid now?
00:39:10We should go back to the boat.
00:39:36Still scared?
00:39:37I don't sin your
00:40:07$2,000.
00:40:37Let's go.
00:40:41Thanks.
00:41:37Don't let any steam eat here.
00:41:56This don't eat.
00:42:02Tell me again.
00:42:25I love you, darling.
00:42:27I love you.
00:42:28Darling, I don't care what happens now.
00:42:34I just don't care.
00:42:35Laura, don't keep saying that.
00:42:37Please don't keep saying it.
00:42:40I won't.
00:42:42I won't say it anymore.
00:42:44Because I do care.
00:42:46Laura, don't keep saying it.
00:42:48Havana, will you win the tomorrow, dimless fashions to sorrow, break your promise of love?
00:43:04Laura, what's the matter?
00:43:06Laura?
00:43:08Laura?
00:43:11Laura?
00:43:12Laura?
00:43:42A knife, a knife, a knife, no marks.
00:44:01We'll wait, Mr. Scott.
00:44:06Oh, can't I make you understand you've got the wrong man?
00:44:12I loved her, you loved her so you killed her, that's understandable, she was all I had.
00:44:21So you made sure no one could take her from you.
00:44:23Oh, you're blind.
00:44:26Why would we come all this way together?
00:44:28I let you tell me why.
00:44:30Just answer three questions.
00:44:33How long had this woman been in Havana?
00:44:36Well, we got off the boat around six o'clock this evening.
00:44:44Eight hours ago.
00:44:46Had she ever been here before?
00:44:48No.
00:44:49Did she know anyone here, anyone at all?
00:44:51No.
00:44:52There is your answer.
00:44:54Do you still insist somebody else did it?
00:44:57In a place where she had just arrived, in a place where she had never been in her life before?
00:45:01And above all, with your own knife.
00:45:04It wasn't my knife.
00:45:05But you just admitted a moment ago, it was your knife.
00:45:07I didn't admit it was my knife.
00:45:08I merely said it looked like my knife, but it wasn't.
00:45:10Oh, yes.
00:45:11Now I remember.
00:45:13The knife you bought.
00:45:15You did buy a knife.
00:45:16Yes, I bought a knife!
00:45:17Save your strength, my friend.
00:45:19You may need it.
00:45:21You may need it.
00:45:26Your knife.
00:45:28Let me see.
00:45:31Describe it again, please.
00:45:37On the handle of the knife I had, the little carved monkey was holding his ears.
00:45:43The knife you've got is covering his eyes.
00:45:44You can see that.
00:45:45He's covering his eyes, but not mine.
00:45:48Don't joke.
00:45:49If you don't believe me, ask the shopkeeper.
00:45:51Find out what kind of a knife I bought.
00:46:01Are you sure this is the place?
00:46:03Yeah, yeah, that's it.
00:46:06I repeat, for a stranger in Havana, you certainly found an out-of-the-way place in a very much of a hurry.
00:46:12You didn't find it.
00:46:14I told you a guide brought us here.
00:46:16I know.
00:46:17The guide who kept pestering you.
00:46:18The one who drove you to the nightclub, huh?
00:46:20You don't believe anything, do you?
00:46:22My clients have a chronic tendency to color the truth.
00:46:30You first, Mr. Scott.
00:46:31Just a moment, please.
00:46:32Not so quick.
00:46:38Where is Chin?
00:46:52I am Chin.
00:46:54I am Lieutenant Acosta, Homicide Squad.
00:47:02What can I do for you?
00:47:03Madam, would you please tell the gentleman...
00:47:05We'll ask the questions.
00:47:09Take a look at this man here.
00:47:12Did you ever see him before?
00:47:13Yes.
00:47:15When?
00:47:18The gentleman was here earlier tonight.
00:47:20Alone?
00:47:21No.
00:47:22He was with the lady.
00:47:25Did he buy anything?
00:47:27Silk handkerchief for a lady.
00:47:29That all?
00:47:31The gentleman also bought a knife.
00:47:34What kind of knife?
00:47:36A knife with a jade handle.
00:47:38To cut letters.
00:47:39To cut fruit.
00:47:41To hang on a wall, maybe?
00:47:43Describe the jade handle.
00:47:45A jade handle had a carved monkey.
00:47:47We know that.
00:47:48Describe the monkey.
00:47:49Monkey was holding his eyes.
00:47:51So.
00:47:55You're crazy.
00:47:56I bought the one that was holding his ears.
00:47:59The gentleman is mistaken.
00:48:02Are you sure the one he bought was holding its eyes?
00:48:05They come three to a set.
00:48:07First one assaulted his gentleman.
00:48:09The others I still have.
00:48:10I can show you.
00:48:12Show me.
00:48:20These are imported from Hong Kong.
00:48:23I only wanted one set.
00:48:25Cost too much.
00:48:27Never sold any except to this gentleman.
00:48:31See?
00:48:32Well, Mr. Scott.
00:48:42I don't understand.
00:48:44I...
00:48:46I'm sure I bought this one.
00:48:48The one that's holding its ears.
00:48:50Why did you buy any knife?
00:48:51I didn't buy any...
00:48:53I mean, I didn't intend to buy a knife, but...
00:48:55Lorna was looking for jade and she said the only jade she had was on the knife handles.
00:48:58And the one we finally bought was this one.
00:49:01The one that's holding its ears.
00:49:04Perhaps Madame Chin switched to the knives, huh?
00:49:07She must have.
00:49:11Did you ever see Chin before?
00:49:16No.
00:49:17Then why would she change the knives?
00:49:27I don't know.
00:49:28Because you are a stranger, and only because you are a stranger, we've given you every chance to clear yourself.
00:49:50You should have been locked up an hour ago.
00:49:54Admit it.
00:49:57You know you killed her.
00:50:03Admit it!
00:50:07All right.
00:50:10Then you did kill her.
00:50:14Yes.
00:50:16Why, Mr. Scott?
00:50:17Because she was afraid.
00:50:25Because she wanted to go back.
00:50:27Back? Where?
00:50:29To her husband.
00:50:31Her husband?
00:50:33Her name wasn't Mrs. Scott.
00:50:35Her name was...
00:50:37Mrs. Eddie Roman.
00:50:39We left Miami together last night on the Cuba.
00:50:41We docked here this morning.
00:50:42Didn't leave our cabin until it was dark.
00:50:43Wound up in that...
00:50:45nightclub.
00:50:47We had a drink there.
00:50:53Mr. Scott.
00:50:55You are a gentleman.
00:50:57Only from the viewpoint of the police, of course.
00:51:02Have a seat.
00:51:09Pablo!
00:51:11What's in?
00:51:13Allí va!
00:51:15Here we go, sir!
00:51:16Pablo!
00:51:17You are a man.
00:51:33You are a man!
00:51:34You are a man!
00:51:37I have a man!
00:51:39You are a man!
00:51:41Please?
00:51:42I have a man.
00:51:43Let's go.
00:52:13Let's go.
00:52:43Let's go.
00:53:13Let's go.
00:53:43Let's go.
00:54:13Let's go.
00:54:14Let's go.
00:54:15Let's go.
00:54:16Let's go.
00:54:17Let's go.
00:54:18Let's go.
00:54:19Let's go.
00:54:20Let's go.
00:54:21Let's go.
00:54:22Let's go.
00:54:23Let's go.
00:54:24Let's go.
00:54:26Let's go.
00:54:27Let's go.
00:54:28Let's go.
00:54:29Let's go.
00:54:30Let's go.
00:54:31Let's go.
00:54:32Let's go.
00:54:33Let's go.
00:54:34Let's go.
00:54:35Let's go.
00:54:36Let's go.
00:54:37Let's go.
00:54:38Let's go.
00:54:40Let's go.
00:54:42Let's go.
00:54:43Let's go.
00:54:44Let's go.
00:54:45Let's go.
00:54:46Let's go.
00:54:47Let's go.
00:54:48Let's go.
00:54:49Let's go.
00:54:50Let's go.
00:54:51Let's go.
00:54:52Let's go.
00:54:53Let's go.
00:54:54Let's go.
00:54:55Let's go.
00:54:56Is there a...
00:54:57Any other way out of here?
00:54:58Only the way you came in.
00:55:01A very kinda?
00:55:03Yeah.
00:55:04Yeah.
00:55:05I'm an American.
00:55:07Miss, I just thought of something.
00:55:09Do you know the man that takes the pictures at the La Habana club?
00:55:12You know, the little flash life photographs?
00:55:14It's not that it matters now, but,
00:55:16I just thought that maybe he did get something.
00:55:20And if he did, it might...
00:56:23Pepe.
00:56:25Pepe.
00:56:53No, no, no, no.
00:57:15No, no.
00:57:17We pay you the same as we paid the last time, and not one cent more.
00:57:22Then perhaps I do business elsewhere.
00:57:24Look, we run the stuff across, not you.
00:57:26What do you have to do?
00:57:27Just wear out that seat.
00:57:28Of course, that you do.
00:57:30I don't mind assuming the usual business risks, but when it comes to knifing women...
00:57:35Knifing women?
00:57:36All you did is switch a couple of knives.
00:57:39I had a visit from the police tonight.
00:57:42They asked a lot of questions.
00:57:44In our business, you can't afford visits from the police.
00:57:48No.
00:57:50No.
00:57:51No.
00:57:52No.
00:57:53No.
00:57:54No.
00:57:55No.
00:57:56No.
00:57:57No.
00:57:58No.
00:57:59No.
00:58:04No.
00:58:05No.
00:58:06No.
00:58:07No.
00:58:08No.
00:58:09I don't know.
00:58:39I don't know.
00:59:09I'm getting tired of this for the last time.
00:59:37The same stuff, the same place, and the same price.
00:59:42No deal.
00:59:43No?
00:59:44Then you're out of business.
00:59:46I don't think so.
00:59:48No.
00:59:49Who's going to buy your stuff?
00:59:50You are.
00:59:52Yeah?
00:59:53Why?
00:59:53If you don't, certain people may find out certain things which you might not want mention.
01:00:03Sorry you said that.
01:00:05I'm sorry it had to be said.
01:00:06I don't know.
01:00:07Go to hell!
01:00:07I don't know!
01:00:09I'm sorry!
01:00:10I'm sorry!
01:00:11I don't know!
01:00:12Oh, my God.
01:00:42Oh, my God.
01:01:12Oh, my God.
01:01:42Oh, my God.
01:02:12Oh, my God.
01:02:42Oh, my God.
01:03:12Oh, my God.
01:03:43Commander Davidson, just a moment, please.
01:03:46Commander Davidson's office.
01:03:48Who?
01:03:49Oh, of course I remember you, Scott.
01:03:52Yes, he's here.
01:03:54Of course you may.
01:03:55Just a moment.
01:03:55Chuck Scott would like to speak to you, sir.
01:04:03Fine.
01:04:04He's on the phone.
01:04:05Oh.
01:04:07Hello, Chuck.
01:04:09You said if I ever needed you, I could call.
01:04:11Well, I need you, sir.
01:04:12Well, I need you now.
01:04:16Yes, sir.
01:04:20Well, it's happened again.
01:04:23Yes, sir.
01:04:26Yes, sir.
01:04:26I'll be there as soon as I can get there.
01:04:31Thanks, sir.
01:04:38Take it easy, Chuck.
01:04:40Now, let's try and start with the beginning.
01:04:47There doesn't seem to be any beginning.
01:04:50All I can remember is the...
01:04:52the end of it.
01:04:55Sit down, Chuck.
01:05:13Yeah, but this outfit.
01:05:15Where'd I get this uniform?
01:05:19In the room I woke up in.
01:05:20How'd I get in that house?
01:05:25Let's talk about what you remember.
01:05:27Forget about the uniform.
01:05:29Well, yes, I was...
01:05:30I was running away from the police.
01:05:34In Havana.
01:05:35In the middle of the night.
01:05:37But, Chuck, you haven't been to Havana
01:05:38in three or four years, to my knowledge.
01:05:41So we can eliminate that.
01:05:42That's dream stuff.
01:05:45But the girl that you met here in Miami,
01:05:47that's real.
01:05:48The girl that you drove to the beach.
01:05:51The one that wanted to know
01:05:53what's out there straight ahead.
01:05:55That girl.
01:06:00Yes.
01:06:03But that's all I remember.
01:06:05What she said.
01:06:08But the beach.
01:06:08You said you remembered the beach.
01:06:11Yeah, the beach.
01:06:14But that's all.
01:06:15Why do you keep looking at the clock?
01:06:21I don't know, Doc.
01:06:24I keep feeling that there's something I...
01:06:26that I've got to do.
01:06:28Don't let that worry you.
01:06:30That's symptomatic in shock cases.
01:06:33But you did remember to call me.
01:06:35You did remember to come here.
01:06:37You're pretty well out of a check.
01:06:39Yes, but I keep feeling that I...
01:06:44I know.
01:06:45Technically, this would be identified
01:06:47in a case such as yours
01:06:49as an anxiety neurosis.
01:06:52That sounds terrible, doesn't it?
01:06:55But it's not, Chuck.
01:06:56Believe me, it's not.
01:06:59You understand?
01:07:00Yes, sir.
01:07:07I still keep feeling that I've...
01:07:09I got the tickets for about
01:07:20at about at least 11 o'clock tonight.
01:07:22Now, listen, Captain.
01:07:24I have dinner with him as usual.
01:07:25And I'm going to say you want to take a drive.
01:07:27I'll be waiting in my room.
01:07:29See you later.
01:07:29See you later.
01:07:29See you later.
01:07:30See you later.
01:07:39Be happy, Lorna.
01:07:43We're going to have fun tonight.
01:07:45I'm going to take you out.
01:07:46We'll go to the Florida Club.
01:07:48Or would you rather go for a ride?
01:07:51Take a look at the ocean.
01:07:54Scotty showed me a rendezvous this afternoon.
01:07:58Got a very nice fuel.
01:07:59I'm very nervous this evening, Lorna.
01:08:10What's the matter?
01:08:12Job.
01:08:12Yes, ma'am?
01:08:13Will you please tell Scotty to bring the car around?
01:08:17Scotty's gone.
01:08:21Gone?
01:08:23Yeah, quit.
01:08:25He saw him leave.
01:08:26He even yelled after him.
01:08:28He didn't even turn around.
01:08:30It's going to cost you $125 for a new uniform.
01:08:35Still want to go for that ride?
01:08:39Thanks, now.
01:08:58Good evening, Commander.
01:08:59Good evening, Ben.

01:09:07Do you like bourbon?
01:09:08Yes, sir.
01:09:10Two bourbons and water, Ben.
01:09:11Yes, sir.
01:09:13The drink will do you a lot of good.

01:09:16Leave the tension.
01:09:17That's all you need, Chuck.
01:09:25Ben, turn the clock to the wall.
01:09:28What's the idea?

01:13:53All you want is to leave this house.
01:13:56The way I came in.
01:13:58I had nothing then.
01:14:00I'm asking for nothing when I leave.
01:14:04Just let me go.
01:14:05Living in this house for three years, you must have found out a lot of things.
01:14:15I wouldn't tell anyone.
01:14:23Joe.
01:14:24Please, Eddie.
01:14:31Don't have him lock me in.

01:16:51Oh.
01:16:53What do you think the deal was?
01:16:56Eddie, don't get mad, but they had something cooked up.
01:17:00What I can't get is the guy running out.
01:17:04Maybe he didn't.

01:18:03No, thank you.
01:18:05I have a friend waiting for me at the ball.
01:18:14When are you getting out?
01:18:31I may stay in.
01:18:32How do you like Sawyer?
01:18:34Turn your practice over to a small guy.
01:18:36I like him very much.
01:18:37So does Lorna.
01:18:40Lorna.
01:18:41Lorna.
01:18:41Mrs. Rowan.

01:20:11Sure, I'd like to send you the place, Eddie, but I don't like the way you buy.
01:20:16Pardon me.
01:20:17Will you okay this check?
